Love the premise! Think I've got an idea for a character for this. I'll roll some abilities and see what I can come up with for you.
Ability scores: 17151411165
Edit - Ouch, that 5! But that's ok, I'll still build something :)
Name: Enzio
Race & Class: Variant Human Rogue (looking at Assassin)
Ability Scores: as above with +1 to Dex & Con (Str 5; Dex 18; Con 16; Int 11; Wis 14; Cha 16)
Backstory: In life, Enzio was a master assassin who lived under the guise of a travelling entertainer. But he was no mere lackey, nor a blade for hire. His patron, Phenax otherwise known as the God of Deception (Mythic Odysseys of Theros) would whisper in the darkest corners of his mind, urging him to eliminate various individuals that Phenax felt necessary for his plans. Enzio was great at what he did, not because he was well known, but because he was not, and his patron rewarded him for it. That was until he died. It was a simple death, but wrapped in as much subtlety and deception that made Enzio proud. He sat with several others, gambling at the tavern one evening. One of his companions at the table was his very target, though he thought Why not get a little fun and extra gold from it? But little did he know that those very men had poisoned the drinks, wishing to take down the great assassin. As soon as he realised, it was too late, and he simply sat, looking from one to the next, the faces of those around the table until finally... darkness.
Artifact: A magical flute that enable him to create fantastical displays whenever he performed.
Physical Description: One could be forgiven for mistaking Enzio for a frail old man or a sickly one. His long, thin arms and legs look almost void of any muscle, and yet he moves with such smoothness and quickness that it's almost unbelievable. Average in height, his build and stature meant that no one looked twice at him. Perfect for that which his patron wished for him to do.
I like the character, but unfortunately, I'm using actual greek mythology, instead of Theros' bastardized version, so Phenax is not an option for the character. Dolos or Apate would be good choices as a deity of deceit, trickery, or treachery.
Also, is there anything that would have cemented Enzio's place in Elysium? Because even though he did work for a god, his actions were less than honorable. Without something else to boost his name, he'd be lucky if he ended up in Asphodel, rather than Tartarus.
Born in the wooded areas of the Pholoe forest, Zaela was born to Teria Lightbranch, a hamadryad, and Loeren Koreth, a satyr. She was raised by her mother, and had an older brother, named Sielahr Koreth, who was 3 years older than her, who also a satyr. She had a happy childhood, living with the nymphs of the woods and reveling with the satyrs and nature spirits of the woods. Unfortunately, this all changed one afternoon when she was 12. This spring afternoon, Sielahr and Zaela were playing in the forest, when suddenly the residents of the woods began to stir. The deer ran away, the birds stopped singing, and the rabbits hid in their dens.
A group of centaurs began running through the woods, chasing after the nymphs, attempting to kidnap them and take them away. Unfortunately for the centaurs, this did not end well. The naiads turned into puddles, and the dryads and hamadryads running away and entering trees. Sielahr saw the centaurs, and instructed Zaela to hide behind a tree. He then went up to the centaurs and tried to get them to go away. The centaurs then heard Zaela's breathing, and started to walk towards the tree that she was hiding behind. Sielahr then began to attack the centaurs with his horns, and shouted, "Climb!" at Zaela. Zaela climbed the tree as quickly as she could, getting high enough that the centaurs couldn't reach her, but Sielahr wasn't so lucky. Instead, the centaurs began to circle him, and took turns kicking him with their hooves. Sielahr fell to the ground, and the centaurs then left, frustrated and angry.
Zaela descended the tree crying, and ran over to the fallen body of her bruised brother. She held his head as he took his last breaths, and she felt his life start to be taken away by Death. She shouted to Thanatos, "Don't take him away! It's not fair! He didn't deserve to die." Thanatos then appeared, holding the hand of her ghostly brother, saying, "Death is not fair. Death is death, and it will come to all." Zaela then replied, "Don't take him away! I'll do anything. Just let him live."
"Anything." Thanatos whispered, "A dangerous promise. What do you offer?"
Zaela then whimpered, "I promise to be your servant, until you must take me away. I'll help Death be more just."
Thanatos slightly smiled, saying softly, "So be it."
He then moved forward towards the weeping Zaela, touching her on the forehead, murmuring, "You are now bound to me. You shall serve me until the moment of your death, and in return I will give you powers over death. You shall be able to bring Death upon those who deserve it. Take this staff. It will show you those that need quick guidance to my hand."
Thanatos then allowed Sielahr to return back to life, and left, granting Zaela the powers of a warlock.
Then, Thanatos, through the staff, would instruct Zaela with her missions, and it would allow her to see the dark auras around those who need to be slain. She then left to Athens, where she learned how to fight in an army. She traveled across Greece, becoming a prominent hero, known as the Reaper of Thanatos to those who heard of her fame. Eventually, she had the misfortune of coming across Heracles (or some other hero determined by the DM), who bore the dark aura of death for some unknown reason. Zaela then had to try to kill the Hero, failed, and died.
Zaela ended up in Elysium because she strived her whole life to do good, treated others kindly and with respect, served the balance of life and death, and saved the lives of many people through here years of serving Thanatos.
Physical Description: With short brown hair, bright green eyes, wearing armor crafted from dead leaves. She wields a short black staff, described below.
Wacky Artifact Item: The Staff of Death. Granted to Zaela at a young age, the Staff allows her to see the marks of death on others. Those who have died, or should be dead, have a dark gray aura surrounding them while Zaela wields this staff, and it also functions as a rod of the pact keeper (if the DM wants) and a quarterstaff.
Alright, I think I'm going with a party animal satyr rogue/bard hybrid... Oh but first I want to check, would you allow Wild Card subclass for Rogue? I just like the flavor. Maybe we can work something out if not?
Wild card is fine. Though I don't think the ancient greeks did much with playing cards, so it might be tricky if you wanted that style.
Hmm. Well, there was dice games in ancient Greece. Maybe the loaded dice variant would be more thematic?
EDIT: I have added my character to my original post on the first page. Had a blast coming up with the backstory, appearance to come later
EDIT 2: Appearance added. I should make his appearance more specific if I get in the game. I guess there's no need to worry about subclass this soon anyways, we're starting at level 1 so it'll take a while to get there
Editor's being wonky, so the char sheet is here. Glad you enjoyed the backstory, it's probably the favorite out of all the ones I've written. Hope to join, the campaign looks lovely!
Race/Class: Human <Yuan-Ti Pureblood>/Celestial Warlock
Ability Scores: 14, 16, 13, 12, 16, 18
Backstory:
Katolis is a distant descendant of the gorgon Stheno. The curse that Athena imposed on her immortal ancestor has altered over the generations. It only manifests in females. <Establishes Yuan-Ti Pureblood abilities.> Katolis grew up on the Isle of Serpents or Sarpedon, as the family called their home. She loved her home. It was a fertile, wild environment and she blossomed into a beautiful, independent woman. She loved roaming her island home free to follow her whims. She loved the morning sun at dawn and took to greeting it daily. Apollo took notice of this beauty dancing by herself every morning in joy at the Dawn and mourning every evening in sorrow at Sunset.
When she came of age, she sought to serve at his temple as a priestess. She eventually became a travelling priestess to combat those who would stamp out the light of Apollo. She was awarded the ability to use a sunbow and to manifest Apollo's power within the world.
She fell in battle during a solar eclipse defending a shrine to Apollo from a horde of mercenaries led by trio of Stygian witches. Even though she fell she successfully held the attackers at bay for the hour long eclipse and thwarted their attempt to desecrate the shrine. She awoke in the Elysium...
Physical Description:
Katolis has vibrant red hair, yellow eyes that reflect her cursed lineage, pale skin that never tans, and small golden scales at her breast, temple, neck, and her loins. She dresses in supple green leather clothing to aid her in moving about unobserved. Her fingers are calloused from picking herbs, creating tincture and tonics, and living amongst nature.
Wacky Artifact Item:
Her most treasured possession is a circlet in the shape of a coiled serpent that she wears upon her head. It holds back her hair and is said to keep nightmares away. It was a gift given to her from her family's matriarch, Stheno. It was the the first and only time she met her immortal progenitor.
Backstory: Maranak was a great druid and a teacher who worshipped Athena, so good that people of his land worshipped him as a demigod, even though he had no celestial relation, and a jealous druid, corben, stabbed him with a dagger while he was sleeping, and was buried with his weapons and his bag of natures wisdom
Physical description: MALE, grey skin, lighter short grey fur covering the body, white plume of hair at neck, indicating wisdom, little ear like things for sensing around in the darkness, four arms flying speed of 30 ft, has wings.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Name: Hyphon of Corinth
Race/Class: Human bard
Ability scores: 141314171613
Backstory: In life, Hyphon told stories and told even more lies. He told the most dangerous man in Corinth he knew where to find a fortune in gems. He told a stranger from Crete he could get him into the city undetected. He should have kept his mouth shut and he wouldn't have found himself short an alarming amount of blood, lashed to a cart as it tumbled down the steep slope into the bay. But the Fates decided his thread was long enough that night. If it weren't at the hands of Apollos it would have been the Polis. If it weren't the polis it would have been a wrong step on a stairwell, or a jealous lover, or some bad dates. Hyphon just hopes he has a coin for the boatman.
Appearance: Short, thick set but attractive. Swarthy, dark hair, eyes the color of finest olive oil.
Wacky magic item: His mentor's old flute. He once earned a boon from a satyr and asked for the flute could be made to return to his hand when he threw it so he could use it to impress audiences.

No-one ended up in tartarus. Pretty sure that was reserved for monsters. Elysium was heroes, Asphodel was for normal people (to wander for all eternity, so it was its own kinda punishment), and the Aeneid (mourning field, or field of punishment) was for those who did evil to suffer. For ever. any evil alignments in ancient greek dnd games were.....interseting. lol.

Oh, plenty of people ended up in Tartarus. There's many a story about a wicked king or murderer that found his way there. The Aeneid was not a section of the Underworld, and is actually just a poem by Virgil. The Mourning Field is a section of the Underworld reserved for those who wasted their lives on unrequited love, while the Fields of Punishment are, as far as I know, made up by Rick Riordan. The only other mention of them I could find was as a section of Tartarus, but I don't entirely trust that.
