Rhaecus is still some distance ahead of the group. Despite his worry about the noise they're making behind him, they seem to have settled it rather quickly so he continues onward.
The passage continues without any turns for a little while longer, before opening up into a large, hexagonal room. The floor is littered with bones and a great deal of blood, and in the center lay six half human, half bird abominations that appear to be feasting on...something. You can't see what it is, but judging by the amount of blood on the ground it was probably once alive. The creatures don't seem to notice Rhaecus, as they are preoccupied with their meal.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
An exclamation mark pops up over Rhaecus's head as he immediately doubles back to ensure the others don't walk in unaware.
When he finds his companions coming up behind him, he holds up one hand for them to all stop. Once they've all stopped in their tracks and the only sound they hear is their own breaths, he quietly speaks. "I've found some natives. 6 bird-like humanoids in a large room up ahead, feeding on some poor sap. Shall we play the part of rude tourists and interrupt their dinner?"
Kaneís takes out various sticks and metallic contraptions and quickly assembles a miniature Gastraphetes from areas hidden in her flowing robes. “Sure. I would prefer to leave one alive in the off chance they speak a discernible language; they might possibly give us clues as to where we should go.”
(OOC: Should've saved Burning Hands for now, lol.)
Donos checks to make sure his companions are ready and heads down into the chamber that Rhaecus came from.
Once he sees the creatures for himself, while not being able to identify them right away, their behavior does appear abhorrent.
(OOC depending on whether the creatures see the party or not will affect what Donos does next - whether they get a free surprise action if they're still busy feeding or we need to roll initiative).
Rhaecus sneaks to a dark corner and readies himself. If they can all get the drop on these fellows, great. If not, he will at least get his surprise in first.
Initiative: 11 Stealth: 24 Stab 1: Attack: 16 Damage: 6 (Should actually be 18 to hit, I forgot proficiency.) Stab 2: Attack: 25 Damage: 8 (Made a mistake here too, I forgot the second stab doesn't have bonus to hit. Still a crit I guess.)
Kaneís will ready herself near the entry of the room, readying to move around the corner and take shot when one of her companions decides to begin the attack.
Even if the creatures are hideous abominations of Tartarus, Donos decides that he can not shoot them in the back with a crossbow. Not quite the heroic image he has of himself.
Nodding to Rhaecus as he sees him take off into a dark corner, Donos readies his shield and trident. As soon as the others have moved into position, he will charge in to attack.
(Oh, apparently Donos didn't do his surprise round either, I wanna get this combat going, so imma just roll for him, I assume he'd just do a trident attack)
Attack: 18 Damage: 4
Everyone lands their attacks, and all but two of the harpies fall, one, the largest, struggling to stand after Arteusa's twin attacks, and the second unharmed. The half-dead one whimpers, while the unharmed one hisses and bares her wicked claws.

Donos listens to what Rhaecus says.
"Are they harpies?" he asks. "I remember seeing one luring farmers off a cliff into the sea once. Formidable opponents."
He adjusts his shield and gets ready to head into the chamber as soon as the others are.
(Anyone gonna make the first move?)

Both Donos and Rhaecus are able to approach without being noticed.
(Waiting for Zaela and Arteusa before beginning combat)
(Rhaecus, you don't have two weapon fighting, any reason that I'm unaware of that would let you add your bonus to your offhand attack?)(Nevermind, looks like you caught it. Though offhand attacks don't add the bonus to damage, not to to hit.)
