Sandow will pause in his search for just a moment as his eyes seem to glaze over, he'll then head back to the main group of the party and say: "Shakira tells me that the gnoll calls itself "Ragah" and that he is "4 springs old." It seems the gnoll is willing to answer us honestly and promises to leave here and not return or seek its companions." Sandow shrugs, "It may be the beast can give us a better idea of what happened here. It may be worth taking up its offer. Syr Cygnus? I leave the beast's life in your charge. If we take up its offer to speak honestly, I would personally not let it live, but it offered a deal and I believe you to have a better conscience than mine. What questions do we put to it?"
The group learns The gholls number 20 .their leader is a chieftain named Grung. They do not live there. They were hired as muscle by Goblins who regained the mines.the goblins want to reopen the mines.
Shakira stares at the young gnoll and it suddenly whines out some low barks and moans. She relates to Sandow that the gnolls have fortified the entrance. there are many normal humans and small ones there forced to work the mine. they recently received a large shipment that the goblins stole from the Dwarves on a trade road ambush.
The last fact surprised Herne. He looked to Sandow "Do you remember that night I sought you out just as you came into town?" He asks. "The reason I didn't wait till the next morning was because there was a small group of Dwarves looking to hire swords to help them get their Iron shipment back. It was taken from them in a fight on the road. I wanted to get you and your team to come with me before they got to you."he mutters "dwarves can be very persuasive. when they start flashing around gold like it was corn meal."
"That's more n likely the ore shipment that was taken". he concludes.
Noticing the body of Vrajitor, Syr Cygnus walks over, kneels down and says softly, "I will see justice done for you friend." And, picking up his sword will walk back to where the Gnoll is.
When everyone is done asking the Gnoll their questions, Syr Cygnus will say, "In the name of Tyr, Lord of Law and Justice, for your vile and evil deeds done this day you forfeit you right to walk free and breath the air your actions have unfairly denied those who lie here. You, who are demon spawn, will never change you ways, will continue your mayhem and slaughter unless checked and must, therefore, die."
With that, she will raise Vrajitor's sword, and, saying, "Let Justice be served!," bring it down, severing the Gnoll's head from it's body.

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
Alaric will approach an obviously shaken Vernon and tell him "Come now lower the crossbow, start gathering vrajitors gear and go tend to Billie. Besides, I heard you killed one of the beasties so I'm sure they will not come back as long as Vernon the Slayer is here." Alaric will reach out and take the crossbow and gather the remaining bolts. He'll then say "In all seriousness, fine work Vernon. You saved lives. The next time we get into town I think I can share my family tab for a couple of days with you and Billie. Just don't go too crazy and just write it off as a business expense"
While the group is preoccupied with the gnoll, Alaric will take strands of vrajitors hair.
Alaric will approach the group and step over the head of the decapitated gnoll. He'll pat Cygnus on the back and with a hint of sarcasm say "Well done then". (Alaric never liked paladins. He thinks theyre great and should exist. Just bad to have a drink and have small talk with at a ball back in waterdeep)
He'll address the group and say "So what now? I'm sure they will be expecting us. Is there any other passage into the mine Herne? Also what are we doing with Vrajitors body? I've sent Vernon to gather his belongings and we can send it to his family and we can give him a proper burial somewhere."
Belthran says nothing, merely cutting the decapitated corpse from the wheel and throwing it aside like a sack of garbage. As an enemy without honour or courage, it deserved no more and no less.

OCC My apologies to one an all for the confusion I managed to strew hither and yon. I didn't realize the promise to the gnoll to spare it's life for information was in force and #450 was the result. Syr Cygnus would never go back upon her word, no matter how distasteful the circumstances or creature(s) to whom it was given. So, please amend her actions as follows:
Noticing the body of Vrajitor, Syr Cygnus walks over, kneels down and says softly, "I will see justice done for you friend, soon." And, picking up his sword will walk back to where the Gnoll is.
"In the name of Tyr, Lord of Law and Justice, for your vile and evil deeds done this day you forfeit you right to walk free and breath the air your actions have unfairly denied those who lie here. But, we have given our word to let you free in exchange for answering our questions and so you shall. But know this, should you foul my sight after this night, I will slay you without compunction. So go, run fast, run hard, you very existence depends upon it." She leans in close, "I'll not forget your face . . . ever!" She will deftly slice his bounds with Vrajitor's sword. "Run!"
The Gnoll looks to the stares of the others. after a few tentative steps the Gnoll looks at the familiar who hisses at it. With that the gnoll takes off at the run.
Belthran sticks out a leg so that the gnoll goes flying onto the floor. "I would not have been so merciful to such an honourless, craven foe", he addresses the prone and quaking creature, knowing that even without understanding the words the sentiment behind them will be clear - to his companions as well as the hapless ex-captive. He then drags the gnoll up by the scruff of the neck and lands a parting kick on its rump.

Herne Responds "I'm sure there is, but I have no idea where."
With a mental thought, Winterflame sends Noctua to fly far above and watch the gnoll's retreat, to make sure it was being true to its word.
Meanwhile, the wizard looks at the others. "So. Goblins." He shrugs. "Goblins, in my experience are rarely so organized by themselves. There's almost always some more powerful creature leading them, like a hobgoblin or bugbear or something worse. I came here looking for other members of the Arcane Brotherhood out of Luskan. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them were involved in some way. And, even if they're not, is as good of a place to start as any. I've found my missing brothers and sisters are less important in my mind to the strange goings-on here." He turns and looks to his travelling companion. "What say you, Sir Cygnus?"
Syr Cygnus looks around at the party, "I agree friend Winterflame, that goblins wish to run a mine is passing strange and needs be investigated. That said, I feel we should repair the party, reconnoiter the surrounding to see what we can learn. I don't fancy running into a horde of goblins and other assorted ilk quite so unprepared to deal with them. We need to take care of the wounded and come up with a plan, one that takes into account projectile weapons in particular."
She scans the area. OCC could we get a description of the surroundings?

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
OOC: a thin blanket of snow covers the area. the surroundings are lightly wooded which would be the result of all the trees cut down to make the dozen or so buildings and sheds that comprise the processing area where the mines contents where smelted into a portable means of delivery. many of these building held stables, wagon repair areas, smithies, barracks, meal prep, cafeteria, and various offices. it was smaller that average working mine that all together handled 50 miners and maybe another 25 assorted staff. the mine is up the road from where you are presently and there are tracks of metal and ore carts were conveyed to and from by oxen most likely.
"I think we should recover as well. My energy is spent and we have plenty wounded"
Alaric will open his bag and start pulling out a shovel and will set it down
Alaric will then ask Vor "I know you've dedicated yourself to the divine recently, so how do you suppose going about a burial? In my family, a man who has died in battle should be laid to rest clad in the arms and armor they fought with. That or I can have Vernon make arrangements for his belongings to be sent to his family as heirlooms".
Alaric turns to Herne "So what say you? You owe him your life." He'll then turn to Cygnus and reach out his hand and say to her "The sword if you will ser knight".
