Syr Cygnus will fly closer to the two 'children', suspecting that they might actually be goblins, after all, Sarang isn't on the same planet as Albert E..
On a strafing run the children tumble off of the horse as it bolts to escape the diving Hippogriff. Suddenly, from her flyby, Cygnus notices that these "Children have the faces of grown men, Terrified men. they are thin, filthy, and dressed in rags. They are in fact, Hin. or more commonly known as Halflings.
Alaric, Herne ,and Vos do not have too far to go before they run into the sight that explains the Goliath's disappearance. The area is covered in gnoll tracks. Belthran's armor is scattered about the leather straps all severed as if the armor was cut from his body. His beautiful Chitin shield carelessly discarded. Herne looking at all the tracks with a perplexed look on his face. "apparently he met the Gnolls and just as quickly surrendered." moving to the side he spots a sight that brings him to his knees to examine further. "It appears that there was a woman with the Gnolls. A human woman. and her footwear is not from the North."
Alaric will continue looking for the giants whereabouts.
Herne looks to Vos and the cleric nods "we're with you Alaric" the Genasi says.
Herne Looks to the Wizard "you all sit tight, but listen for my rifle. If you hear it, we'll be needing you."
Priest, Warrior, and Waterdeep Lord head out to find the whereabouts of their Goliath Bard.
The Paladin, lance at the ready, is leading two terrified Halflings and a nervous horse back to the shack.
Alaric's two attendants stand on the porch of their shack watching the strange parade.
As does the Wizard and Sandow from their shacks.
Its 8:00PM
“I seem we have caught a couple of horse thieves,” Syr Cygnus looks at the two, “Can you explain to us why you were trying to steal our horse?” She says in Common.

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
Offended, Alaric picks up the shield and brushes it off while saying "I guess we should get back to the group and report. Perhaps we can pick up their trail if we're fast enough".
He adds "Those Gnolls were probably better off just taking the shield. Its worth more than anything here"
While we move back to the others Alaric will add trail markers so we dont lose the location of Beltran's capture.

"Forgive us Milady! We just wanted to leave and see our families again!" the older Hin pleads on his knees.
"Yes Milady please don't send us back!" The younger Hin adds his own whiny plea. "The Dogmen and the Gobbos will kill us for escaping!"
Syr Cygnus looks them up and down, "Escaping? You were prisoners then? Slaves? What can you tell us about these 'Dogmen' and 'Gobbos'? If you were being held against your will we most certainly will not be sending you back anywhere but your home, provided we can find a way to return you there. So speak up, tell us all you know about this place and the infestation of foul creatures."

Basically this is their story, the older one is named Moxie he's a cook by trade. the other is his second cousin Pepsi who is on a mining cleanup crew (basically a new guy with little or no mining experience). They are from Caer-Dineval and were employed here when the Goblins and Gnolls struck. Since then they have been slaves working pretty much night and day in the mines.
"Pep and I escaped through and area him and a few of the clean-up guys used to sneak outside on during their shifts. whatever you folks have been doing here has all the dogmen and Gobbos all worked up. and when they brought in the Goliath prisoner they were all so proud of themselves , we used that opportunity to escape." Moxie says.
"Were sorry we took your horse." Pepsi says. "We just wanted to get away from here as fast as we could. I really wanna go home."
Book joins Syr Cygnus when it's clear what's happening, though he keeps his guard up. He looks down at the halflings, and then at the others nearby. "It sounds like the gnolls have your friend. It also sounds like there's more going on in the mine than just some opportunistic scavenging. Gnolls and goblins are almost never this organized on their own."
He looks back down at the halflings, squatting down to be at their eye level. "What can you tell us about the mine? In particular, is there someone or something other than the gnolls and goblins--sorry, dogmen and gobbos--in charge? And, can you direct us to this secret entrance? If so I'm sure we can help you escape."
Sandow signals that he has heard and understands what is happening, but he does not give up his vigilance and sniper's nest. The escaped slaves may not have gotten off as free as they believe they have.

What they tell you of the mine is rather general information. although more than six months ago the mine was attacked by a combined force of Goblins and Gnolls. Those not slain in the initial assault were enslaved and set to working the mine. there is some rumor of a human woman, a powerful Wizard that the Goblins and Gnolls serve. as a slave worker their perspective is severely blunted but from what rumor can shed light on, the goblins run the show- the Gnolls are hired muscle- and the wizard lady is there from a reason no one can figure out.
For the promise of a horse and supplies they will lead you to the hidden exit that leads to the passageway back into the upper section of the mines.
"Ah, Book, I think they have already escaped," Syr Cygnus winks at him. Turning to the halflings she continues, "So, how many dogs and gobs do you reckon there are down there? And you say they captured a Goliath? What can you tell us about him? As Book," she points to Book, "asked, are there anything beings with the dogs and gobs, maybe one or more who a telling them what to do? Any information you can give us will be of great help in remedying this situation."
Sandow sees Goblins and Gnolls coming fast in the darkness. you have glimpses between trees and shadows. at least a dozen. they are trying to be quiet but are approaching fast.
Vernon posts himself at one of the broken windows with his crossbow and a case of bolts. Billie is near the doorway with one of the Rangers hand crafted javelins, in Billie's hands its as handy as a Boar spear.
"Faex!" the wizard, curses. He looks at the halflings, "Your best bet is probably to bunker down with us. You run off, and they'll likely just catch you out in the snow." He invites them to join him in the same building he runs to with Vernon and Billie, but doesn't wait for them if they don't move immediately.
The two distressed hobbits look to each other and then follow the Wizard at a run into the shed.
Just for clarification there were three buildings that were being used.
Building #1 was the original building Sandow was fighting from, it is currently empty. After the fight Vos, Herne, and Belthran and Book settled in. it has two broken front facing windows and a solid door. it faces the building Sandow is on the roof of, across the road.
Building #2 Sandow and Shakira are on he roof in a fortified position. Sandow has clean sight lines up and down the main road and can see the front of building #1 about 20 yard away. and the front end of building #3 about 25 yds away. the room below Sandow has neither a door or windows, the doorway is open.
Building #3 is about 15 Feet away from building #1 it has a door and two windows. and faces the road from the west. One window has a wooden shutter the other is smashed with a broken shutter. the door is solid and has a wooden brace to bar the door. there is also a working back door leading to an outhouse. it has a few furnishings and a fire place. Alaric and his men were here. though at the moment only Book, Vernon and Billie are inside with the two hobbits. the wagon is in front of the shack. the animals are all unhitched and eating next to the wagon.

While maintaining his watch Sandow glances over to see what the Paladin has discovered.
"Hobbits." Shakira says to him. "We have Hobbits, Mines, and Goblins. She muses. "You wouldn't happen to have a gold ring on you?"
"A ring?" Sandow asks.
"Never mind. Just an old story I heard once." The Familiar replies.
