Kallista looks to Hyre. "I... um," she says, "I feel safer staying here..."

Hyre studies Kallista for a moment. Indeed, Aelar's report of people beating homeless people to death was a thing to worry about. "Ah, sure. I didn't think of that." He looks at the rest. "What about you all? I think every coin we save is better but, as I myself have said earlier, it's no use for us if something bad happens. There are two more reasons for me to go to the farm though: I want to get to thank Edna and her husband for everything as I don't plan to work on the farm anymore, and I want to see if Balgrim is back, to tell him where we are if he is. I haven't seen him since I left the Dwarves' area. Lastly, we left a few things over there, someone should probably get them. This means at least one less room to pay for this night. You could all stay here or come back with me, whatever you're most comfortable with."

"I'm heading back. I'm going to keep working at the farm. It's steady work, healthy and it leaves my afternoon and evenings free for other things," Aelar says. "We can go back together, Hyre. Safety in numbers and all that."

"One more night in the hay won't kill me... and we can save a bit of coin. Enjoy the bed, Kallista- you deserve it after what you went through today. I'll go with Aelar and Hyre. Leon, are you coming?" Lazlo turns to Carmine "After tonight, I'll be here at the Horseshoe- at least until we run out of coin. WIll I see you tomorrow? Good night and be safe, all of you." Before he leaves he pulls Carrie into his arms "See you in dreams, Lady."

Raia actually responds this time, in Aelar's mind.
"I know, I felt that. It was quite nice. I'm feeling better today, thanks to you taking care of yourself." she responds. "That was quite the day-long nap I had. Were I younger and more foolish, I'd risk hunting." she tells him. "I can feel you've had quite the adventures since we last spoke. I'm going to need a little longer though, to gather the strength I need to see you. I don't much think that the people of Guiston would care to see a full size dragon landing on their wall, and I'm not all that eager to get shot at again. Seven cannon shots was quite enough, thank you."
Leon stops eating long enough to respond to Hyre.
"I'll head back to the farm too. I want to pick up some last tips I can get from Edna before I meet Sir Geoffrey. One arm or not, he must have been a formidable warrior at one time." he says. "Did you hear how many shots the watch took? To think that people used to go out there and engage the beasts in close combat, and still managed to win. That's the kind of skill we'll need to win against the Skell and get our families and town back. I'm going to go clean up before we head out though, if you don't mind waiting a bit."
Leon heads upstairs after he finishes eating and tries the shower. While he's friends with Aelar, they're at that age where being in the same tub together, despite it being purpose built for such a thing, doesn't even cross his mind, so he fiddles with the knobs for the shower until he is solidly surprised by the water coming from the ceiling. It takes him a bit to find the right temperature, resulting in a comical dance number as he lunges in and out of the stream to adjust it.
"You saw nothing!" Leon says after he hurriedly gets himself cleaned up and heads back downstairs.

I'm so glad to hear that. Take whatever time you need, Raia. I want to meet you but better safe than sorry. Tomorrow I'm going to try talking my way into the Hawk's Nest. A few people have told me I should be able to and the library there may have information on this magic stuff I may be doing with you.
Aelar nods enthusiastically to the idea of getting the training they need to beat the Skell. "Nope. I want to get clear too."
Aelar hides a grin. "Nothing at all. I certainly didn't see my friend doing the dance step with some falling water."
As they get back downstairs, he says, "Leon and I are ready to head back, Hyre. Are you also? Kallista, you sure you'll be OK here?" Not that he has any doubts but it's the thing to do, to ask.
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
"Ready indeed. Didn't think you'll all come with me though. Now we're leaving Kallista all alone. Not that I expect something to happen, but didn't you say safety in numbers? Well, I'll be back here in the morning, if you're still here then. Shall we go?"
Varielky
Leon hmmms, but glances at the number of waitresses and Hana.
"I think she'll be safe here. There's plenty of security. We can afford 4 silver pieces for tonight, anyway." he says.
((Still no response from Balgrim. I'm going to call it here. When the others get to the farm, a message will be waiting for them there from Balgrim that he's going to be living and working with the dwarves at the Hearth and training to be a cleric. He'll gladly help with anything he can, however. So, until I hear back from him, Balgrim is going to kind of act as a buff, if there's something that Balgrim COULD help with, you can use him to add advantage to any rolls you need to make. Just assume he drops everything he's doing and comes to help you out.
Your characters all know where to find him and sending a messenger to him only costs 10 copper. Just allow some in-game time for him to arrive.))

ooc: awww- he'll never get to see the journal entry Lazlo was gonna do about the time Balgrim slipped the frog into Old Man Coggins' pitcher of beer...
also- figuring out how to insert an image into the forums was too much for my morning brain...

ooc: LOL. BTW, HOW do you do that. I've never gotten it figured out. Please spill!

Aelar listens to Raia's voice and finds it soothing as always. I want to learn about magic, sorcery, warlocks. It seems I may be on that path with you and would like to know more about it. Knowledge is power, my mother used to say.

ooc: I had to look it up https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/bugs-support/31460-how-insert-images-to-dndbeyond-forum-posts but it entailed making an imgur account to share images from a web location. You basically link the jpg from the online site. Or use voodoo, whichever you prefer.

Here's a book cover illustration I did about 6 years ago:))

Thank you, Raia, Aelar thinks. I will remember that and I will be careful.

The guys head back to the farm without much incident. The watchmen who were hanging about outside the Horseshoe haven't been seen again. As they get closer to the outskirts of the town proper, Hyre and Aelar notice a group of young thugs frantically running towards the Ritz, their clothes and hair singed. They wear the same gang colours as the ones they took the locket from. Seems they tried their luck again and paid for it dearly. One of their faces is badly swollen up from a severe beating.
The Goodwins welcome the group home and bear a message from Balgrim, who has made his decision to train under the Hearth to become a full-fledged cleric. He figures it's the best way he can help people. They'll even be offering him room and board.
Thomas and Edna are pleased to hear that Aelar will be coming back to help on the farm, and tell the group that there will always be work for them there. They get a good night's sleep in the stable. Kallista's room may be small, but it's cozy enough and it's probably a refreshing change of pace to be sleeping in warm sheets and on a proper bed so she's not picking straw out of her wing skin when she wakes up. The murmuring of the tavern below helps bring some normalcy to her situation.
The next day, the group is refreshed and all exhaustion is dropped. They're ready to face a new day.

Lazlo wakes up feeling refreshed, and makes it a point to let Thomas and Edna how grateful he is for all the help that they gave the group. He then sets about putting in a days work at the farm.

(Didn't Hyre get full proficiency in investigation? Let's see... Ah! Found it. Post #771.)
When Hyre gets up, after making sure his hair is clean of straw, he goes and thanks the Goodwins for all they've done to help the group. Then, when Lazlo shows up, he says: "I'll be in the salloon. Don't take too long, I won't be waiting forever. Bye!"
He goes and picks up the few assets the party managed to gather and heads to the Horseshoe, ready to learn how to make food taste good.
