So I am wanting to make sure I am seeing this correct in my own head, because I have read and reread it a few times. Did you put the dirt right back into the whole trapping him almost or is he just in a 5x5x5 cube hole in the ground?
So he is able to avoid the mold earth, with this knolage I will assume that there is a hole in the ground, and a pile of dirt a little bit away.
The elf leaps and rolls out of the area being effected by mold earth. As he rolls he pulls out a dager, "Weapons, drop them, food and water, hand them over or you will all die." the elf is very jumpy, and twitchy. Any movement catches his attention and he moves one of his blades to the newest of noises.
" … Ah my friend. If you think that toothpick can threaten us then you must be terribly tired. Now I show an example of how to negotiate with a pointy stick. " Gintarou clears his throat, raises his glaive which is at least five times longer and ten times heavier than the dagger the Elf is holding. " Drop that cute little thing and chat with us. Then we will share our ration and water with you. "

If intimidation fails and the Elf tries to attack Gin, he will use Polearm Master feat to make Shove Action to trip the Elf.

Polearm Master
While you are wielding a glaive, halberd, pike, quarterstaff, or spear, other creatures provoke an opportunity attack from you when they enter your reach.
The elf drops his daggers, then himself to his knees. "I am The Fell One, and I am sorry. I came with Gaius, but when he died I couldn't return to Kuloa (The city you were all in) so I have been living on my own out here, everyday hungrier than the one before, less food to be found. I gave up on eating the plants, and the wild life, well that too has been going bad. I am sure that the little fresh water that left will also be gone soon. Again I am sorry I am just afraid of my own death."
"Gaius, ya say? I've got bad news for you, friend... Eh," Mist shrugs. "Maybe later. You any good with that dagger? We're aimin' to take care of whatever's infectin' the plants and animals 'round here. Once that's done I'm sure life'll get much easier. Would ya like ta help? Seems it'd be in your own best interest and we can make sure you're fed and watered in the meantime." He grins devilishly. "And don't mind Tuk. He's just havin' an off day. Off century? Ah, who knows with these demons?"
A rude sound emanates from behind The Fell One and one small red hand making an obscene gesture pops into sight for just a moment before disappearing again.
"Say, you got an easier name? Or is it just 'The Fell One?' Seems a bit cumbersome to me..."
"I had one before but I have lost that name now, as I have lost my friend. Gaius and I were shipmates before getting here. Our ship was hit hard by a storm and destroyed, we managed to wash up here on shore. How did you guys end up on this cursed island?"
"Lost your name, have you? Just how long you been stuck 'ere? Doesn't seem as summat would happen under normal circumstances. We came at the behest of the bugs... Um, the Oahtu. They said something's been infecting the plants and attacking them. You've been here a while. I'm sure you've seen it, right?"
"If you pick up that dagger it better be to use it with us," Druquilla threatens coldly watching the man as she draws her bow. "You use it against us I will put an arrow through your eye."
" So we aren't the only group the queen sent. I'm hardly surprised. No, no we are not friends of Oahtus. It's only business. Now take the food and eat slowly. You have starved too long. Eating too fast will hurt your stomach. " Gintarou shares his one day ration with the Fell one. " You survived the island this long. Not many people can do that. It seems you have quite a bit of knowledge about this jungle and some tricks. Can you cast spells? "
So I should have a persuasion roll here, but it would be at advantage, with a +6 and a low DC, so we're going to skip it.
"The Oahtu are terrible, and their queen is the worst, she is a lier, and a manipulator! She is the reason Giaus is dead! Do you have means off the island? " all this as The Fell One is eating slowly. When asked about spells he looks to his blades, "I've been told I'm magical with those but I don't cast spells if that's your meaning."
So I should have a persuasion roll here, but it would be at advantage, with a +6 and a low DC, so we're going to skip it.
(Not sure if it would be in addition to my roll earlier but I'm all for skipping a roll if it seems inconsequential!)
"We can find a way off the island when we need it," Mist says cautiously. "How did the queen bring about your friend's demise, then? So far it seems like you were hired to take care of this threat just like we were and he died tryin'. Is there more to it than that? We aren't in the habit of running out on contracts so we'll need a bit more than 'She's not a very nice person' considerin' most of the people we've worked for weren't nice people either."
(It's an additional role, at the end of the day it's two roles, from Mist that 1 of them needed to be greater than 6, and then is there anything else that you could have added to it? Probably your pact magic you made with DnDBeyond dice rollers and would have rolled 2 nat 20s lol.)
"She lied to us, she manipulated us. She sent us out knowing more than she claimed. We ran into a battle of infected and non infected Oahtu. We joined the fight. We stood with their comander alone at the end. He told us about how the Oahtu who came back were sick and some even came back seeming normal, but then started to attack others, and became even sicker. He himself looked very bad. He convinced Gaius and I to continue with him on his mission, we head to the tree" and he points to a tree that is rather central of the island. The top of the tree woods splintered and black as if death has come over it. "Once at the tree we were attacked by the infected, while we fought our best, the Oahtu comander turned on us midway through the fight, then a vine came and killed Gaius. That's when I fled. And I have been on my own ever since."
"Hrm," Mist replies thoughtfully. "We were attacked in the throne room while speakin' to the queen. A couple o' infected Oahtu and an infected human that she identified as Gaius." He trails off in thought for a moment. "If you saw your friend die, that must mean this thing has the power to resurrect the dead... Or at least reanimate them for its own nefarious purpose. The not-Gaius called itself the 'Voice of the Mother' and claimed that the entire island is now the domain of the 'Thorn-ShadeMother'...whatever that is. Said they want the size-changin' magic and a way off the island so it can try to take over the world. Seems to me this is all the more reason to keep goin' and try to take care of the problem rather than runnin' away and leavin' it to its own devices."
Druquilla nods at Mist's words, "From what we have seen I doubt whatever is controlling the plants can truly resurrect something, it appeared more like it was using the body as a puppet more than anything. Aside from that I agree with you we need to continue with our plans here, keep these forces from leaving this island, and collect what we are looking for. Who knows what we are looking for may be the cause of all this and if we remove it everything with the plants could be solved?"
Druquilla turns to Gintarou, "What does your passenger say about this? Could the shard cause something like plants gaining sentience and going crazy?"
"The evil woman, and her evil family! And if you would have me yes I would like to help you get to the tree. It is this way." At that The Fell One points in a direction to the tree, that is mostly following the vine. Is there anything you wish to do before nightfall?
(Please tell me he has an accent and he's really saying "weevil woman"...that would be absolutely priceless.)
"Lead on Namelss Wonder!" Mist says. As they follow, he leans over to Gintarou. "Oi. What d'ya think o' this? First we met a shell one (Vahlisto), then a hell one (Tukmas), then a rich-yoo-EL one (Kolganra), and NOW we've found a FELL one! How d'ya like that??" He lets out a bark of laughter and reflects on how witty he thinks he is as they continue.
He'll have Tuk help keep watch if they end up camping.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kraven follows along behind the group, shaking his feathered head at the attempt of a joke by Mist. Every now and then he will look behind the group to see if anything else is following them.

I also decided that one way or another he should probaly get a dex save to see if he can move out of the way, so dex vs Mist Spell DC
20 VS 15
