OOC: A forest is full of trees, bushes and general undergrowth so it's all one roll and movement through it. But if the movement carries you through a meadow, you have to roll again when entering the trees on the other side. Similar to moving through a hallway, entering a room behind an enemy but the floor has a lot of random trash unlike the clear hallway. You'd need another roll the stay undetected behind the badguy if you want to move in the room.
Lightfoot Halflings are almost comical. There can be a fight going on, and they can hide behind their allies. It is obvious where they went but they cannot be targeted if they Hide successfully.
The screaming charge from stealth is surprise round.
Gotcha, I wasn’t picking up what you were putting down. Thank you.
Oh, gosh. If I made my players roll* stealth for entering or exiting a room from or to a hallways they wouldswitch games. I could get away with that once or twice per dungeon maybe, if it was a decent enough sized dungeon.
Although, that character could clearly tell that something was about to happen, so I would not have called that surprise. 🤷♂️
OOC: You're making an argument for passive skills. Which is interesting.

OOC: according to post 206, you are 270 feet away from the gnolls. That’s within the “extended” range for your longbow. Normally, to shoot at at "extended” range, you would need to roll at disadvantage, meaning you would roll 2 d20s and take the lowest roll, then add your attack modifier (+9 in your case). However, Taslyn just used a spell that gives the next attack to the grill she affected advantage on the roll. Advantage means roll 2 d20s and take the highest number, then add your modifier. Since both advantage and disadvantage apply to your first attack, they cancel each other out.
all that is to say that one option for your turn this round is to make 2 longbow attacks, the first one “normal” (roll 1d20 and add 9 to the roll) and the second at disadvantage. Based on how wysperra is doing their rolls, also roll damage for both, without waiting to hear if they hit. Then Hawksley could continue to run toward the gnolls another 30 feet.
*OOC: I'm observing but I'm a little lost both in what's going on and what I'm supposed to do*
You are currently 270 feet away from the gnolls (bad guys). They are trying their best to put holes into your friend who is charging at them.
You have a longbow which allows you to shoot back. Nobody else in the party can shoot yet (I think).
Technically, you can do whatever you want. This isn't a video game with limits =) However, to maintain the social contract, you should try to play nicely with the others - no stealing, try to be respectful, don't attack your friends or helpful villagers, that kind of thing.
PCs (Player Characters) incombat can Move, Take an Action, and sometimes a Bonus Action. Meaning you can move a bit closer and shoot up to two times; shoot two times and move a bit closer; shoot once, move closer, shoot again; move then Dash (move again), or stand still and shoot up to two times (there is no bonus). Action Surge (Fighter ability) will give you another Action so you can shoot 4 times BUT Action Surge has a cooldown. There is a variety of things you can do besides those but I think those are the most combat helpful.

OOC: Here, I’ll make it easy for you. You tell us whatever you want your character to do, and we’ll help you figure out if it is possible and how. You don’t worry about the rules, that’s what we’re here for. All you gotta do is deal with the what, and we’ll help you learn the how as it comes up. Sound good?
Technically, if you just want to cop a squat and spell your name on the ground with loose pebbles (or recycled water), you can. Heck, if you wanted ro you could try to shoot Toots in the back you could. I would appreciate it if you didn’t, but you could.

OOC: To use the dice roller for combat up there (The die looking icon) ^ ^
For Hawksley, select the combat tab, then in the Attack Modifier box put +9, in the Damage Dice box put 1d8, in the Damage Modifier box put +4.
Then on your second shot, do the same thing but where it says "Advantage" you pull down Disadvantage.
Don't worry, just give it a shot (ha!)
