Question regarding unarmed fighting style for fighters.
can an unarmed fighter specializing in unarmed fighting make a 2nd attack (bonus action attack) as 2 weapon fighting and you lose the dmg str mod or no because fists arent “light” as per 2 weapon fighting?
if no due to fists not being light - fists are lighter so im not sure why you couldn’t other than a flaw in the rule wording.
if you can’t could you if you took the dual wielder feat which eliminates the “light” requirement or still no since dual wielder indicates you need to be “wielding” which you are unarmed ie not wielding anything…
lol just trying to see if there is a way for a fighter specializing in unarmed fighting to gain a bonus attack without multiclassing into a class like monk that gives you an attack as bonus action.
Not only are fists not "light", they are not melee weapons that you hold in your hand.
Two-Weapon Fighting
When you take the Attack action and attack with a light melee weapon that you’re holding in one hand, you can use a bonus action to attack with a different light melee weapon that you’re holding in the other hand. You don’t add your ability modifier to the damage of the bonus attack, unless that modifier is negative.
If either weapon has the light property, you can throw the weapon, instead of making a melee attack with it.

The unarmed fighting style gives using both hands for fighting (not holding a weapon or shield) a larger damage die rather than making 2 attacks. Note: you don't actually need both hands empty for the larger die, so grappling or holding a torch, etc doesn't reduce damage.
Thanks thats what i thought so two weapon fighting limits 2nd attack on bonus action due to RAW.
which then inturns answers my other question which Dual Wieldinf feats specifically states “wield” which you arent when unarmed so no way for bonus action attack as an unarmed unless multi in to monk.
Question wasnt about dmg die size, question was as an unarmed fighter do a bonus action attack as a two weapon fighting mechanic despite not holding a “light” weapon.
ie in real life if im holding a 2 lb short sword in right hand and a 1 lb dagger in left - two weapon fighting allows me to make short sword attack on action attack, make a nous attack with dagger just no DMG mod added.
so now as an unarmed fighter holding no light weapons im 3 lbs lighter than holding a short sword and dagger ie if i can make 2 attacks while holding 3 lbs i should be able to make 2 attacks while holding nothing but RAW says i cant aince fists arent “light.”

I understood your question. My answer was "this instead". How about I rephrase: "No. This instead."

"If you strike with two free hands, the d6 becomes a d8" is what it does when using both hands.
