At the end of a long rest, a character regains all lost hit points. The character also regains spent Hit Dice, up to a number of dice equal to half of the character's total number of them (minimum of one die). For example, if a character has eight Hit Dice, he or she can regain four spent Hit Dice upon finishing a long rest.
So they say a character can regain half its hit dice per long rest; does this mean that if they take 2 long rests in a row with no action in between (for example, if they stay in town for a few days), they can regain half their hit dice per each long rest they take, eventually regaining all of them? Or can they only regain half their hit dice period, regardless of how many long rests they take?
But, you can only benefit from one long rest in a 24 hour period (unless your DM allows otherwise), so you would have to have a day of downtime inbetween

It says in the Players Handbook:

They recover half their hit dice with each long rest, so up to full hit dice after two (well, three, since rounding sucks) long rests.
But, you can only benefit from one long rest in a 24 hour period (unless your DM allows otherwise), so you would have to have a day of downtime inbetween
Thanks for clarifying!

This is a great question and glad you asked! I had the same question myself and this answered it.
