This thread is for posting how you interpret the setting.
I take it at face value as Fantasy Dieselpunk (Post-War with soldiers coming home, flying ships, etc. ) set in the Magitek 1800's, with a bit of Cyberpunk: Warforged (Which are technically kind of Dieselpunk robot soldiers.) and Sharn (City composed of seemingly never-ending towers plus flying taxis?, I'm getting Blade Runner flashbacks already.), and Atopunk: The Mournlands is basically a nuclear wasteland.
I think the noir is the coolest part of the setting, so when I finally run it it’ll be as a mix of neo-noir (Pulp Fiction) and true noir (actual pulp fiction). Think hard-boiled detective cases, rainy nights under streetlamps, dark jazz and darker heroes, that sort of thing. It probably won’t leave Sharn.
Magitek and magical historical intrigue all the way. The many mysteries of Eberron have answers, but they're not easy to uncover and uncovering them comes at a heavy price (when the PCs in my Eberron campaign discover what caused the Mourning, they're going to be soooooo screwed. Basically, they'll be forced between choosing to allow the campaign's BBEG go unpunished for destroying Cyre, or they start up the war between the kingdoms of Galifar and end up destroying the world).
I lean a ton into the magitek of Eberron. The Warforged were created based on schematics for Warforged Colossi created by the ancient Giant Empire in Xen'drik used to fight against the Quori. The PCs are just about to meet the oldest Warforged Colossus in the world (in my Eberron), which was created over 100,000 years ago and is bonded to hundreds of docents filled with the spirits of Quori that it can allow to incorporeally enter the Material Plane.

I tend to take a different approach to Eberron then many I think, primarily due to the influence of the 3rd edition books and lore. Sure, you have the many different races and factions of Eberron living and conspiring and influencing each other that make for great campaigns. However, all of this is just the surface level stuff that hides the true conflict that covers every facet of this plane. That being the on going shadow war between the the Fiendish Cult of the Dragon Below and the Dragons of Argonnessen.
Both factions seek to manipulate one of the most dangerous forces in all of Eberron, the Draconic Prophecy. This strange force can, if one is versed enough and strong willed enough to view these threads of fate without suffering from madness, show potential futures and how different key events can cause such futures to unfold. The fiends of the Cult of the Dragon Below wish to cause events that will lead to the release of their Overlords and bring about another Age of Demons. The Dragons use the prophecy to prevent the Cult from succeeding. Though the Dragons do not want to destroy Eberron themselves, many of the dragons are far less concerned for the fate of the lesser races. If many must die to save the plane, so be it. This makes both sides of this war very dangerous even if the Dragons are technically the better ones in the conflict.
There is also a third party in all this, The Dragonmark Houses who are secretly trying to learn how to read the prophecy themselves. This is because the Dragonmarks are somehow tied to the Dragon Prophecy, which also means that they draw the attention of the Fiends and Dragons. They wish to keep the world safe from the fiends while also finding better alternatives to futures that are harmful to the lesser races as a whole that the Dragons care not to expend time and energy pursuing.
This is just how I view my world of Eberron anyways. Otherwise I can go very magitek and very high fantasy depending on what I need.
Being a bit of an artificer myself and a sci=fi and steampunk enthusiast, I leaned hard into magi-tech with my short Ebberon run.In regards to the major question of what caused the morning,it was caused by quori Whom learned the emotion of dread as deadly weapon. They were destroyed by their own weapon when it launched but,Their past minions are working to re-create it.
