As a bonus action, you can extrude a pseudopod that is up to 6 inches wide and 10 feet long or reabsorb it into
your body. You can use this pseudopod to manipulate an object, open an unlocked door or container, stow or retrieve an item from an open container, or pour out the contents of a container. The pseudopod can’t attack, activate magic items, or carry more than 10 pounds.
If the pseudopod can hold items, couldn't it logically hold a weapon? Does "attack" in this case mean that it can't perform an unarmed attack, or does it apply to all forms of attack? I'm not suggesting that attacking with the pseudopod could be an effective strategy, I'm just wondering what is physically preventing it from attacking.
On the topic of resistances, I can't help but feel like poison resistance needs a better justification. I would think that a porous body would make you more susceptible to poison, like an amphibian.
There's a difference between holding an object and being able to use it. The idea, I think, is that a pseudopod can manipulate an object, but not with enough speed, momentum, or accuracy to really hurt somebody with it.
It's like if you've ever tried to unlock a door while holding a bunch of big, heavy bags of stuff. Holding the key might not be impossible, but there's a good chance you have to juggle stuff a bit to even get your hand in the right position.
Now imagine that the key is a sword, the lock is another person's gut, and the door is also trying to murder you as you stand there with your hands full.
- Perhaps the thinking is that a Plasmoid is a type of ooze/jelly/blob. Since Oozes in D&D tend to do Acid damage, the devs thought that was too rare of a damage type, switched it to Poison instead.
- Another theory being that because Plasmoids can alter their bodies at will, maye this means they can alter their internal chemistry enough to reduce the harm of poison.

I think it is meant to be because the Plasmoid is basically a gimongous amoeba and the interior fluid of an amoeba is basically the inside of its stomach and already acidic enough to digest food. Without an esophagus, it wouldn’t even get heartburn from the increased acidity.
Well if the pseudopod can't carry more than 10 pounds it's strength is technically less than one. Also I agree feed on poison would make more sense thematically
Someone on one of the discord community campaigns I'm on used Plasmoid to RP as Mimic, let them stealth into something, they wanted to buy a bag of holding to swallow and stick "food" in.

It's more like they still don't want to release that content to us and want to wait and see if we're ready for the new Spelljammer stuff that plasmoids and giffs were part of before. Treasure Planet awaits, I say, but it's also another way for them to get us to buy another book.

The Pseudopod is basically like a short-ranged mage hand. It has no Str of its own.
I was sad not to see them in the new Multiverse book, I hope they and the other multiverse UA races weren't scrapped entirely.
Don’t think of the recent publication as “the new ‘Multiverse’ book,” instead think of it as “the new Mordenkainen’s book.” Those UA races were never gonna be in that book, it was all about updating previously published content. Those UA races that make it through UA will be in a future sourcebook, pro’ly a Spelljammer sourcebook.

Some theories on the "why" of poison resistance:
- Perhaps the thinking is that a Plasmoid is a type of ooze/jelly/blob. Since Oozes in D&D tend to do Acid damage, the devs thought that was too rare of a damage type, switched it to Poison instead.

It would have made more sense if they got Acid resistance, IMO.
I agree.

They do get acid resistance though, as well as poison resistance.

i suppose poison resistance does make sense. I mean, from a scientific standpoint. But meh. 🤷♂️

I think that if you want to play a rogue, you should flavor your plasmoid as being a gelatinous cube
...since they are the only oozes in the game with edges.
