Are you saying that tribal cultures don't craft things? My original thought was the Totem Artificer, granting small AOE buffs around where they are set up.
Of course they crafted things, I’m just not sold on all the class features meshing. I personally think it would be cooler if a class like the Druid has a crafting subclass than for the Artificer to go low-tech
Because when I think “tribal totem caster” I don’t think: Cartographer’s Tools, Smith’s Tools, Thieves’ tools, Alchemist’s Supplies, Cobbler’s Tools, Glassblower’s Tools, Tinker’s Tools, or Navigator’s Tools since IRL, most of those “crafts” weren’t invented until societies evolved out of the ”tribal”state.
Plus, like I already stated, I think a Druidic “crafting subclass” sounds cooler.
Lizardfolk's crafting mechanic is the closest I think we'll get to a tribal crafting system.
Also, tribes do craft things, but it isn't really like "Bongos that Explode Ears" (as a Shatter Spell), but more like a pointy stick they can throw (as a javelin or spear).
If you want to be a tribal crafter with magic powers from nature, just be a lizardfolk druid with Shillelagh and Druidcraft.

I have no problems with Brother Turtle’s Shield. But “Tinkering” involves sciences and physical mechanics that were never invented by societies in the “tribal state.” No Tinkers, no Tinker's Tools, no tinker’s tools, no Right Tool for the Job. No RTftJ, no Artificers....
Plus, like I said, twice, I think a crafting Druid subclass would be more interesting.
I don't have anything against a nature based artificer, but instead of it being a tribal artificer, I would prefer and see it much more likely that there would be a general Botanist Artificer, possibly using magic to infuse plants and turn them into weapons or rope, or whatever, that you could flavor this Botanist as being a tribal crafter.
The point of the artificer subclasses are that they are originally made as a high-future magic-tech subclass, that you can theme as anything. If you want to flavor your Alchemist as growing and harvesting magical plants that function as their potions, without actually physically being potions, you could do that. If you want to flavor your Steel Defender as being made out of tree bark and dirt, you can do that without changing the mechanics.
It would fit the whole theme of the Artificer much better to have a general Botanist subclass that can be themed to be tribal, instead of just having the very niche very unflexible Tribal Crafter subclass. If you want your ear shattering bongos, be a Botanist if that ever comes out, and just make your character be tribal themed, instead of asking for a Tribal Crafter subclass.

1: Iamsposta I hear you, you think a crafting druid would be more interesting than a druiding artificer. Good to know. I don't intended to change your mind, or dissuade you, but I do remain steadfast that my idea would be fun to.
2: Levirocks: I don't see how the EXTREMELY narrow feald of "I grow plants" is less restrictive than "I come form a tribal culture and make totems". But okay. I guess we are wanting different things.
Well, I wouldn't say that. Many tribal societies had advanced understandings (at the time) of stonework, architecture, medicine, and metallurgy.
That being said, there's no reason why you couldn't just flavor the existing artificers to fit the tribal aesthetic. That totem idea sounds like it would just be the artillerist but with the guns designed to look like a bunch of stone totem poles or something. Not saying it wouldn't be cool to get an artificer with a few druid spells, but if any artificer was going to get those spells it would be alchemist since they already deal with life forces and organic material.

It's ok Ranger, you'll always be cool to me.. Unless druid gets another use for its wild shape charges.

Botany a narrow field? No! Tribal culture is much more restrictive. Botany isn't just growing plants, and even if it was, there are a ton of plant species (nearly 400,000).
Not only could a Botanist artificer grow plants with Herbalism Kits, but create poisons from them (actually giving a purpose to all of the poisons in the DMG), make vines that can grab and restrain people, create weapons, shields, and armor out of them, and possibly get pet plant creatures (similar to blights).
What would a tribal warrior do? Make weapons, strengthen people with totems, and get druid spells? Botanists could possible do all of these things, and more, just with more versatility and room to expand on the subject anyway you want.

Well, we have Fighter, Rogue, and Wizard subclasses left to receive a new UA soon. Last time it was these three together, it was psionics for all of them. They could either redo these subclasses with fixes (unlikely), or make some other new subclasses.
I really want another Fighter subclass that isn't magical. So far we only have Champion, Battle Master, Cavalier, and Samarai, and Battle Master is the best of these. I want the Brute, but that is unlikely. Maybe do a nature based one, like a Woods Master, or something.
Rogue could be anything, from Bounty Hunter to Infernal Stalker. A Shadowfell based rogue could be cool as well.
Wizards could be nearly anything. In Xanathar's they introduced the War Magic Wizard, a mix of Abjuration and Evocation. I would like some other combinations of the magic schools, like a Limbo Mage (conjuration and transmutation) or a Hypnotist (illusion and enchantment), or one with pets, like an Elemental Summoner (conjuration and evocation).
After the subclasses part 4 is published, I think they'll take a break from new subclasses, and either do a second Class Feature Variants (maybe subclasses), or some new races (possibly planescape related).

I appreciate that. Thank you. I would also like to point out that nowhere did I ever say your idea was wrong, I simply voiced my own personal opinions on the concept. I do think you’re idea is cool, I want to be clear about that.
Personally, I would prefer to see those Artificer mechanics as you described them have a different theme and flavor than “tribal crafter.” Maybe something with a scout/“drop troop” kind of idea? Or maybe like Destiny 2 buff powers.
I would also personally prefer to see that theme executed with different mechanics. To be honest, beast shape seems beat shape as far as my taste, and Wildfire is a bit.... Well, you’ve read it I’m sure, so I won’t mansplain it at you. But the idea of using those mechanics to fuel a totemic buffbeacon instead sounds very interesting to me. Mayhapse even interesting enough to get me to play a Druid for the first time ever, and I’ve been D&Ding as long as they’ve been a PHB class.
2. Oath of Destruction Paladin (either destroys evil-does in the most drawn out way possible, or delivers the good-hearted who are weak out of their suffering)
3. Arcane tradition of summoning (I don’t need to explain this)

I would love to see a Fighter with some Monk flair, but we’ll probably never get it since they killed the “Fighter with Barbarian flair.” Maybe a “non-Arcane Archer” type?
Shadowfell Rogue would be sweet!
I would like to see another flavor of “martial Wizard” but maybe more Monkish, “Disciplined Mind” maybe?

what artificer features don't mesh?
level 1 magic tinkering and spell casting... I don't see a conflict
level 3 you are resourceful enough to make your own tools
Level 2 infusions, I don't see where there is a problem.
level 6 better tool checks, still not a problem
level 7 you are brilliant, and it makes others better
level 10 you can make things faster!
level 11 you can make items with magic in them
level 14 you can use anyone's items because you are that smart
level 18 you can attune to all the things... or 6 things
level 20 you're better because of the things you have and can not die because you made things.
