Heh. In my opinion, the Feywild has the right to be a bit goofy (not capital g "Goofy", though. Dogfolk can go to the Abyss, for all I care). Rabbitfolk definitely seem like the weakest concept-wise for me, as it doesn't seem to have much interesting flavor other than "Bugs Bunny" as written. I've always liked the concept of owlfolk. My only gripe with the race is that I always imagined them having their wings be attached to their arms, not separate like the Aarakocra.
I'm buying whatever book these come out in, that's for sure. We need more fey content in 5e.
For me the Feywild is more whimsical than goofy. Cute critters? Sure. Mischievous trickster? Definitely. Goofy? Doesn't really click with me.
But I agree that we need more fey content.
Look at the Killmoulis, and tell me that the Feywild isn't goofy. Or the yeth hound, or boggle for that matter. Not all of the Feywild is goofy, a lot of it is whimsical, and sometimes horrifying, but there certainly is room in the Feywild for "goofy" stuff like rabbitfolk and owlfolk (I personally only think the rabbitfolk are goofy, but you're entitled to your own opinion).
We especially need powerful fey. The highest CR on an official fey monster in all of 5e are the Eladrin in Mordenkainens, which are CR 10. We need Archfey, Elder Hags, and other powerful fey monsters, whether they are allies or enemies (most fey can be a bit of both).

Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
I love fey, but I hate that the Hobfey's Fortune From the Many is exactly the same as Saving Face. And Hare-Trigger on rabbitfolk is a horrible pun.
There is a small difference, that it is PB uses per long rest instead of once per short rest, which I actually think is a nice change, but I agree with you on both accounts.

I'm not sure if Dragonlance is coming, it could just be a Draconomicon, but either of us could be right. If they don't do draconic lineages (maybe with Urds, Half-Dragons, and Gemstone Dragonborn), I would guess that they'll do more planar lineages or subclasses. They could do Rogue Modrons, Bauriar, Abyssal Cambions, Slaad-Scarred, Shadow-Touched races, and the like.

The hare-trigger pun is terrible and amazing at the same time. I kind of want them to keep it in, but something more descriptive like "Alertness" would be a better name for the feature.

I certainly agree that we need more fey, which is one creature type that is solely lacking in 5e, alongside (understandably) oozes and plants. However, while WotC isn't likely to release a book just about oozes and plants, there's enough information on fey that, based on these new races (lineages?), they will probably be releasing a Feywild book. It's my hope that they'll cover the darker side of the Feywild, the Unseelie fey, but also that they stick to the Seelie fey not being "good". Instead, the Seelie fey (as in the rest of fey lore for 5e) should be tricksters, most definitely not "good" overall, but not malicious either. You can think of (and run) the Feywild however you want, though, it doesn't affect my game at all, and everyone's opinion is valid.

With a novel due this summer, I imagine either a Dragonlance Book that summer or around Thanksgiving in time for Christmas. if not that, then a potential Draconomicon I fear would be heavily leaning on the Dragonlance novel so much that it might as well have been a Dragonlance book.
Regardless I flipped a few tables with this UA. Not that I don't dislike the Feywild prospects but I am still waiting for Path of the Dragon with DRAGONRAGE.
The hare-trigger pun is terrible and amazing at the same time. I kind of want them to keep it in, but something more descriptive like "Alertness" would be a better name for the feature.
I like it and hope they keep it if they run with it. "Alert" is already a feat and I don't like names overlapping.

WotC would have to be having a months-long aneurysm in order to not capitalize on one of their oldest and most beloved settings getting a new series released from the two authors most closely associated with it; which, considering other decisions WotC has made, isn't out of the question, but the stars are pointing to Dragonlance coming in the near future. Then again, the stars also pointed to Tasha's Cauldron of Afterthoughts being a Planescape supplement, so what do I know?
I mean, getting both a Draconomicon and and Dragonlance Setting book would be sweet.
With the more recent statement that WotC will be increasing it’s cadence of releases for books, there is a slight possibility that we might be getting books based on planes (like the Feywilds for these UA).
Personally, I think books on monster types and how to creature encounters and even unique monsters for your campaign would be pretty cool Dm resource that you could also include new player options like races/lineages, subclasses, feats, backgrounds, magical items and spells. Plus you can make those types of books campaign agnostic, with guidelines for how those creatures tend to function in specific settings.
I know I personally want monster books on Dragons, Plants and more powerful Beasts, Celestial, Fey, Constructs, Aberrations, and Monstrosities.
- why are we throwing around the concept of the dragonlance setting getting its own book? Does it like feature dragons more prominently than other settings or is there some reference to lore specific to that setting that i missed?
- why would the hobgoblins be related to the fae? is this just something they made up for the sake of an interesting race or is this something that was a thing in one of the older editions?
- how big is the Fairy supposed to be? is it meant to be about as big as halflings, gnomes and other small races or is it meant to be only slightly bigger than most tiny creatures?

Dragonlance is one of the only core settings to have dragons as one of the crucial element to the world itself, as they are the true children of the world of Kyrnn if I recall.
I believe only Eberron has had Dragons be as important to the world as Dragonlance, and much of the Dragon’s history in Eberron is shrouded in mystery due to the secretive nature of the Dragons in that world.
So it’s not surprising that many believe the Draconic subclasses could be for Dragonlance. I’d still prefer a Draconomicon but more dragon content regardless works for me.

My thoughts on a Dragonlance book aren't so much tied to the earlier UA as the fact that WotC is bankrolling another novel trilogy and the around three "classic settings" being revisited comment. I just don't see WotC putting out three novels (including all the contending with the original creatives to include litigation) unless they were invested in using it as a gateway or tie in to actual game products.
I could see a setting agnostic Draconomicon being published separately as both the Dragon souled monk or Drakewarden ... I can't see those class features in Krynn. Of course my understanding of DL is based purely on the original Chronicles trilogy, and I know the setting has done deep dives into the history before the Heroes of the Lance (the Time of Huma was supposed to be a more heroic age, thought the actual books show it to be just as cynical, just Huma was particularly heroic, eventually) as well as its future, So unless the bond between dragons and humans/humanoids in Krynn had evolved significantly beyond what you see in the original novels, Dragon monks and Drakewardens are very much a WTH?
While the first trilogy novel cones out this summer, and I don't know is the plan for them to come out annually, or every six months? I could see the novel being a ramp up for 2022 which could be marketed as Wizards "Year of the Dragon" so you'll get a lot of Dragon specific work, both a draconomicon and Dragonlance.
I'd also like to think the comment that Wizards was exploring different sorts of products meant things other than hardback books, so either Draconomicon or Dragonlance could land in one of those. Like maybe they could partner with that multi thousand dollar bespoke gaming table I think Wyrmwood is putting out. The top of the table is tooled with the word "FLIP". Underneath the table are the rules to the Path of the Dragon Barbarian, the rules for DRAGONRAGE carved 8 font points larger than the main text. DRAGONRAGE must be earned.
The nitpicker in me forces me to point out that there is a gold dragon in Dragon Heist defending the pile of gold coins (which are also called "dragons"), but I will say that that is a pretty great burn.
