I am underwhelmed by the new Warlock, it deserves to be better, but I do think it would be great flavorwise to be a Pact of the Chain warlock, as you are chained to your genie, and your familiar is chained to you. This just seems to fit in thematically with genies.
I love the Beast barbarian, now we just need a barbarian that is good at punching.
The monk needs a bit of fixing, the poison cloud is strange, and it can hurt your allies.
The paladin is also strange, I want some spells changed, and some overall quirkiness fixed.
Overall, the new UA was "meh", okay. I'm happy for the new options, just a few things need to be worked out.
I like the Monk a lot. I think it needs a little tweaking, but I think it’s totally worthwhile. I like the flavor theme, and I like the concept of the mechanics. WotC claims to treat Healing and Damage as point-for-point equivalents, but if that’s true, either their math is a little off this time, or mine is.
The Warlock is... disappointing. Like when your parents “[weren’t] mad, just disappointed.” I kinda want to send WotC to it’s room for an hour to think about it’s choices. Don’t get me wrong, the idea seems fun, but overall it leaves the same proverbial taste in my mouth as the Alchemist.
The Barbarian looks good to me, but I’ve honestly not played one so I lack a comparative baseline. This makes me want to play a Barbarian though.

Same, I like the monk, just it needs a bit of fixing. Maybe if the ally you're healing is at 0 hit points you do 3x martial arts dice healing? Healing/Damage are totally not equivalent. Cure Wounds is 1st level and heals an average of 7 hit points, Chromatic Orb is also first level, but harms 3d8 damage, so an average of 13. Healing spirit is level 2, and out of combat it heals each party member 70 hit points, flaming sphere is level 2, and it only does an average of 70 damage total during the whole minute of concentration.
I agree, the warlock is disappointing and needs fixing.
I've only ever played a wizard, so I don't know what playing barbarians is like, but this one is undoubtedly one of the better ones.
What subclasses do you think the next UA will have, in the next few UA do you think Artificer will get any subclasses?

I do think something that could fit is that you borrow one of the patrons magic items with interest. Spend some gold and you get a magic item for a day. Like a flying rug. This would be high level because you need to earn the trust of your patron. Also this is where I'd have it where the thematic lamp comes in.
One of the four elemental cantrips like mold earth and gust and the primordial language (I generally feel that the patrons language should always be included).
For thematic wish light. How about a table like wild mages? Where it could go monkey paw on you?

Can we get a ranger class that focuses on exploring ruins/ancient civilizations rather that the typical woodland ranger? like, explorers/archaeologists preserving long-lost knowledge and culture by venturing into dangerous ruins lost to time and reclaimed by nature? I would be tempted to give it legend lore for its 17th level skill, which would be very thematic, but would probably piss most rangers off.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
It's ok Ranger, you'll always be cool to me.. Unless druid gets another use for its wild shape charges.
side note: the beast barbarians natural weapons leave his or her hands free, ether for an shield if they are using the tail as their weapon or hands free to use another one handed weapon in the case of the claw natural weapon (you only need to make one claw attack with your attack action to earn one more, so one one handed weapon attack and two claw attacks). taking any strong two handed weapon such as an greataxe will work well with the bite weapon whose only benefit is once per turn, letting you heal yourself with one attack and actually deal damage with another attack
also, with all the hype of the psionic subclasses, there should defenetly be an psionic monk subclass with similar or near identical mechanics to four elements monk, only with much diffrent, more psionically themed spells and disiplines, heck monk spells are called "disciplines" just like the psions psionic powers!

i am soup, with too many ideas (all of them very spicy) who has made sufficient homebrew material and character to last an thousand human lifetimes
I don’t typically use UA in the games where I’m a player. I don’t want to be a pain in the @$$ who is constantly asking for permission to use the newest play test thing that my DM has to deal with. In the campaign I DM I allow pretty much anything once I have familiarized myself with it. Heck, I even okayed a Mystic once.
Word of advice, don’t okay the Mystic. I love the idea, and it’s not really that broken, but it’s such a pain in the @$$, watching the player spend several minutes per turn trying to figure out which what went with what was painful. I offered to let him switch/retcon to the UA (and I still cannot believe the phrase I’m about to type is actually a thing 😕) Psionic Wizard and he’s enjoying it quite a bit.
I get it, a Psionic Wiz is way simpler to implement than an actual Psionicist, but it still leaves a strange taste in my mouth. Like that sour cream crap they use to hide the cracks in a cheesecake. I’d rather eat a cracked cheesecake that tastes better, than a pretty one that tastes... off to me. But as Dennis Miller used to say: “That’s just my opinion, I could be wrong.”
i will say that considering the fact that you can combo the natural weapons with actiual equipment and i'd say that the beast barbarian is borderline OP, but that comes with the territory, other than that yes, it seems the council has spoken

Okay, great.
I agree the beast barbarian is borderline OP, it is definitely not OP, but is superior to most other barbarians. I think we can also agree that Bear Barbarian is still superior and is OP.

The genie patron for the Warlock and the beast subclass for the Barbarian (at least how it is described) both scream desert to me so that can be a hint of something to come. My biggest wonder is what will be in part 2 and will it only be a 2 part UA or will it be 3 or even 4?
I'm hoping for something themed to the elemental planes. I'm running a planes-themed game, and the one thing that disappoints me about prior plane-focused sourcebooks is just how broad they are. It's the problem of fitting too much content into one book. When you're trying to document dozens of planes in 200 pages, each plane gets 2-3 pages. Maybe. That's not as much as you'd think, and definitely not as much as you want if you're going to actually be putting a campaign in one of those settings.
In any case, the Noble Genie patron has my interest piqued, but it sounds like it really didn't connect with anyone here.
I do like the idea of a Genie patron warlock, but I think it was executed incorrectly.
I agree they need to flesh out the planes more in 5e, but if they go the route of Descent into Avernus, we will literally have to have hundreds of books like that to detail everything. The DMG has very little description of each plane, and the PHB has even less.

Yeah, I typically don't use UA content, (the class variant abilities I allow a few of in my game), but it's nice to have the option now.

So, have we ruled a verdict?
Beast Barbarian is good.
Monk is weird and needs some fixing.
Paladin is cool, just a few fixes.
Warlock is bad and needs a rewrite?
Agreed?
