I like the Dice Mechanic, but I am still a little disappointed that they are continuing to use Spells and Spell Slots.
I do like the die mechanic, and I can even get behind the whole hi/low thing, it makes sense to me at least. But I ******* hate that they are using spells as Psionics.
I did kinda say that they seemed to be headed in that direction. They're clearly trying a different approach in 5e, and part of that involves just reusing the spellcasting mechanic to represent psionic powers (which isn't unprecedented, given all the "psionic" innate spellcasting on monster stat blocks). I don't agree with it, but it seems they've made up their mind on that.
It does, and I saw this coming for months. That doesn’t mean that I have to agree with it, or that I can’t tell WotC exactly how much I disagree with it and why.
To be clear, I don’t mind a “psionic sorcerer,” but I refuse to accept that as a “Psionicists.”
I do like the way the die works though, that is rather clever. I just wish they would make a Psionicist that used it for everything and never touched a spell or a spell slot.
I don’t mind “Psionic Spells” for spellcasters. I do mind using spellcasting mechanics for “Psionicists.” I will simply never accept that mechanic for psionic powers.
My first impression of this was, "I guess this confirms Sposta won the bet."
My second impression was, "What the hell?"
I did want one of the subclasses to switch over to a different class the last time they made a psionic subclass UA. They changed the one that I wanted to remain the same as it was.
I wanted the Psionic Warrior Fighter to become a Paladin Subclass. Most of its abilities seemed like paladin abilities, and would've worked great with paladins.
Apparently when I told them that in the survey they took that as "Oh, the psychic warrior is too much like a paladin, lets make it not like that at all." They then proceeded to mush the Aberrant Mind Sorcerer with the Psionic Wizard to make this new monstrosity.
Also, they abandoned a ton of spells. There's only 3 left. I liked some of the other ones. They were overpowered, but Wizards of the Coast has said that they design their UA to be overpowered so they can dial it down again. No, apparently they decided that they straight up shouldn't exist.
Also, they decided "SCREW MYSTICS!!!"
Why? NOOOO!
I want mystics. Yes, they were complicated. Yes, they were overpowered. But, when the going gets tough, you don't abandon it!
I want mystics. I want mystics! I WANT MYSTICS!
Why can't psionic subclasses and a psionic class live together in peace? Why can't they share the great land that is psionics? Why must it be a competition over the same territory?
The existence of one doesn't make the existence of the other unnecessary.
Please, Wizards, change your minds. I don't like this. I really don't like this. Some of the new abilities are strange/cool, but this isn't worth killing the Mystic.
I hate this. I mean, I like the subclasses, and some of the new abilities are cool, but they killed 3 things that I desperately want back:
The Mystic
Psionics Wizard
My happiness (jk, I mean Aberrant Mind Sorcerers)
I hope that Wizards somehow rethinks this.
Maybe we should start an internet riot?

I wish IamSposta would quit sugarcoating their opinion and let us know how they really feel.
I do know that the rogue in my campaign is not going to be happy about the change to [Tooltip Not Found]. I'm pretty sure the main reason he got it was to combo it with booming blade. On the balance, I think it's a fair tuning though.
This would be a good opportunity to give Sorcerers a few spells that are not available to Warlocks or Wizards. Maybe make a Monk Sub-Class that is Half Caster like Eldritch Knight but 'Psionic" with access to the new spells?
I utterly loathe the talent die thing. I hate everything about the psionic sorcerer, I hate they dropped the psionic wizard entirely (tweaks I'd understand but why drop it?! I loved it!), I hate they just dropped the spells - I liked them and they really had the psionic feeling to them, maybe a tweak or two? Nope, just "gone". I hate the changes to the feats and don't like the new ones.
Basically all this does is remove everything that was good about the UA psionics and leave us with less that has been changed into utter shit.
And you can bet WotC will force D&D Beyond to "archive" the old stuff so we couldn't even use it on here without having to recreate it ourselves - which they seem to have a habit of lately.
It's like they utterly miss the point of what "psionics" should be.

That’s why I made a character for every UA class I liked a while ago. If I want to play it, all I have to do is copy that character and just change race or whatever. And you better believe I included those spells too. Those were the only part of the old UA I did like. Like I said, I don’t mind psionic spells... for spellcasters.
This would be a good opportunity to give Sorcerers a few spells that are not available to Warlocks or Wizards. Maybe make a Monk Sub-Class that is Half Caster like Eldritch Knight but 'Psionic" with access to the new spells?
I would like to see some sorcerer-specific spells associated with their UA Aberrant Mind subclass.

No, you don’t want that. Believe it or not, I am sugarcoating. I usually deliberately refrain from profanity in these forums out of respect for others. The fact that I’m droppin’ f-bombs in this circumstance is still me using restraint.

No. Nooooo. All of you know that I have been wanting sorcerer exclusive spells for awhile: Sorcerers Suck
But, I don't want it to be Psionic spells that they have that are exclusive to them.
If Sorcerers get psionic spells, Wizards should.
Well, I just strongly disagree that this is the time to make some sorcerer exclusive spells.

I hate this UA. I don't necessarily hate some of the mechanics and changes, but I do absolutely hate the fact that Mystic is dead, Aberrant Mind Sorcerer sucks now, and Psionic Wizard is dead.
This sucks. I really really hate this.

I guess I am the opposite. I don't like the idea of Wizards with Psionic spells. They are the masters of the Arcane. Sure WotC is going the route of using spells, but "Psionic" Spells should be exclusive to Psionic classes/sub-classes.
I don't mind Psionic themed spells. I don't mind (actually I want) Wizards to have access to them. What I do not want is them to go 100% "PSIONICS IS SPELLCASTING!!!"
That would be terrible. That is what they're doing. This is what I predicted they would do back when the first version of this was released.
I really hate this.
Also, the reason they're saying "Mystics shouldn't exist" is that they're too complicated for completing a task that spells can already do. I disagree with this. Their whole new dice mechanic is complicated and confusing for abilities that can already be replicated much simpler. Like, Telepathy. We have a bunch of different races/subclasses with telepathy. Instead of adding dice to that system, just give them telepathy, or the option to get telepathy.
I really don't like this.

I feel like psionics suits the fluff of the sorcerer class better than wizards anyway. I understand that others will disagree. Add to that the fact that sorcerers are kind of the red-headed stepchild and it makes sense if WotC might want to push sorcerers to the fore when it comes to psionics.
I would still like a new Psionic core class, I'm just trying to make the most of what we are likely to actually get.
Yeah, nice job being an optimist.
I want to actually get something done, I wish there was a way to let them know. There's a lot of people who would like a Psion class.
I don't disagree with you at all. The only thing they seem to take into account are the Surveys after each UA and it would appear that we are in the minority there.

Like I have said before, I don't like "Psionic Spells", but that is what is going to happen.
That being said, I thing they are going to need more than 3 spells in order to fill an entire theme.
