By lore: Lizardfolk: the fact that their more recent incarnation of lore actually goes into their heads and doesn't stop at "just evil tribal things" and actually gives us a window onto their thought process and priorities is sort of awesome. It's part of why I like settings like "Sword of the stars" where aliens actually feel/behave alien as opposed to humans with funny hats.
By look: Kenku; I have a huge soft spot for bird-folk races (Rito from Zelda, Sparrows from Redwall, etc.) and crows/ravens particularly... Maybe a tad bit biased here. They're also a race that works really well thematically in urban fantasy which I also quite like.
By lore: Aasimar. Lots of story potential for characters knowing they were put on the world for a reason, possibly struggling to discover what that reason is, and whether to accept or reject it.
By look: Definitely Leonin. I'm still looking for the right opportunity to play one, mostly so I can commission art for the character. :)
Lore: I'm a big fan of short races In particular Gnomes and Halflings. I think Gnomes just edge it for me though as there is tremendous versatility. They can be otherworldly with some fey connections with Forest Gnomes, Rock Gnomes fulfil that classic tinkerer role and Svirfneblin feel dour. I think this flexibility also allows them to fit within most settings pretty easily.
Appearance: I’m going to go with Fire or Air Genasi.
By Lore, I enjoy Simics. They just make ideal mad scientist-styled villains, looking to perfect the living condition. By Look Leonin, No race can make a better poster child for an inspiring leader charging into battle.
I like the goblins lore in MToF. The idea of these little monsters being bullied by everything around them and not knowing any other way to interact with the world. And then on top of that they've got an evil god who makes their lives even more miserable if they ever consider not being the worst guys ever... It's weirdly compelling.
Appearance wise, I like the firbolg for how friendly he looks. And hardly anything can challenge the mighty dwarf for an iconic look. I mean, come on.
Lore wise, for me, it will be Wardforged and Reborn (created out of a hodgepodge of body parts). Being unnaturally created is a cool backstory, and it gives you so many interesting story options to explore. You can have a character that is totally puzzled by the concept of mortality and wonder why other party members are so afraid of dying, since being an inanimate rock, piece of metal, severed body parts, or a vat of chemicals honestly is not that bad; if you are not alive, you might not feel joy and pleasure, but you also do not feel pain and suffering either, and you certainly do not have worry about constantly eating, drinking, sleeping, and whatever other chores you have to do so stay alive. You can also explore themes of culture and identity, like why do people care so much about superficial differences and have conflict over it, whereas a bronze Warforged and a steel Warforged who are made up of totally different elements can work and chill together, whereas mortal races who are all composed of similar elements and ratios cannot. Hell, you can even have Reborn/Warforged be puzzled why other Reborn/Warforged treat their creator as if creators are their parents, since parents as a concept that is only applicable to living things.
Appearance wise, elves for me. I like pointy ears, and they are physically attractive.
By Lore: Halflings - I enjoy playing halflings in general for most classes even melee fighter types. I imagine a little person packing a powerful punch. I do prefer to play them as a rogue, bard or even a ranger the most, however. These characters have a long lore and lifespan and are known to get into just about anything they want without being noticed.
By look: Half-Elf - I like the look of a human with elven ears. I can imagine them as a cleric, wizard or paladin.
I'm assuming we're going for all humanoid races, not just playable ones, right? If so...
By lore - Mind flayers. Really awesome how they work, with the elder brain controlling them as long as they remain within range and being able to think for themselves when they get away. Especially because, when you think about it, they control other humanoids, but are, in turn, not under their own control, for the most part. Then, add in the fact that they're from the future and came back in time to avoid dying with the fall of their empire...
By look - I'd have to say genasi. Not only do they look cool, but they also can have really thematic personality traits and flavoring for spells and abilities.

Mind flayers are abberations, not humanoids.
Ehh, they're close enough, seeing as they take over the bodies of humanoids.
So I deleted my post, feel free to do the same with the quote in your post so the thread don't get too tarnished.
Amazingly cool response. Kudos.
Lore: I love Kobolds. Live fast, die young, but they're actually capable of living longer than humans. They're like bin chickens who are secretly badass. My next character is going to be a Kobold, and he'll whisper to himself, before battles, to try to calm his abject terror: "I dragon!"
Look: I've really liked the possibilities with my Fire Genasi. I'm only playing it because I like to use the random character generator until I get a combo that'll work in the setting / party, but there's lots of cool stuff going on with spell reskins and emotion-by-burning-embers and stuff. It looks cool in my head, anyway.
Lore Giants, I love the Giant Dragon war stuff, the idea they are waiting for the great return. There is so much stuff you can build a whole campaign around, especially when you then consider that the players, outsized by the Giants, may become there saviors/destroyers.
I did build a campaign idea once based on this idea of the giants destiny coming true and Bahamian and Tiamat rejoining forces out of fear for the Great War restarting. The outset of that was going to be the idea that Saridor was actually linked to both giants and dragons and they where in fact 2 sides of the same coin required to balance out the planes.
In terms of look, tiefling, I just love everything about them.

Please explain why...
By lore: elves. I like the story in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes about their fey origins, trance, and Corellon.
By look: winged tieflings. Not sure why. I think it's a cool look.
