Hello Folks, thanks for taking a second to read and provide insight/opinions.
I'm on the newer end of the spectrum and I have a question/scenario that I'm struggling with, but my DM more or less said "this is rules as written" and just an awkward part of the game. Ill ask the question and then give a longer scenario for context
Question: Can a PC or NPC suffering from the 'Blind' condition pinpoint the location of another PC or NPC and walk directly to them and attack? I realize a Blind character CAN attack (with disadvantage) but that makes more sense assuming they are in base to base already. How could a Blind character navigate themselves across a complicated room with lots of chaos?
Scenario: I'm a Wizard, I cast Greater Invisibility. There are 6 Flesh Golems and some Scorpion critter. The group is suffering from the now Invisible Scorpion casting magic from the roof at them. I open my Ever Smoking Bottle before the Greater Invisibility wears off. Everyone and thing is Blind. Makes sense everyone in base to base keeps fighting, buy then the DM has a portion of the enemies come right to me and mob me. How do they know where to find me automatically?
Being out of sight (invisible, heavily obscured) is different than being totally undetected (hidden), which typically requires an action along with other restrictions on what you can do. With the former, you are still detectable by other means, whether scent, sound or whatever. A creature might not know exactly where you are, but they know the general area well enough to be able to attack you with disadvantage unless they have special senses. Scorpions for instance, tend to have tremorsense which allows them to "see" obscured/invis creatures just fine.
Yeah, unless you’re actually hidden, your location is still known by means other than sight, even if you’re invisible or obscured. You can become hidden by taking the Hide action.

This is the correct answer. So using the OP's example, the Flesh Golems could certainly listen for the rustling of the Wizards movements, and move towards the noise. This is because the Wizard hasn't attempted to hide, and basically holds their robes close to them...assuming that's what they wear.
Is it realistic? Maybe not, but its a compromise of simulating a situation, and is RAW. There are other mechanics that could be exploited here that might cause a distraction (wizard uses prelitigation to create a noise elsewhere , but that doesn't negate the rule here if the DM determines they want to move towards you.
And of course remember, it does work both ways; you would be able to move next to the obscured or invisible character, unless they hid.

Seems really counterintuitive.
Thoughts, rulings, opinions?
