Well I made a character, a lvl 1 mage variant human, and my DM allowed pretty much any content so I got the Firearm Specialist feat and made my weapon, a revolver, with a reload of 5 and misfire of 1, that does 1d8+dex.And another one that I said I'd like to get later on the campaign, another revolver, but with a reload of 3 and misfire of 1 doing 1d6/d4(at my DM's choice). and that got me thinking, would it be to OP for a mage to be able to deal 1d8+2+1d4/6 without magic?
There's also something like a sniper rifle, but i don´t know how I could balance it.
Firearms Specialist does not grant you a weapon, it just allows you to use them.
Also note that there are two different sets of firearms rules. One is the official rules (in the DMG), the other is from Critical Role, under the Gunslinger fighter subclass. You can't just mix and match them at will. You will definitely need to talk to your DM. Each set of rules has their own list of firearms you can use.
The Firearms Specialist feat is from Critical Role, so it uses the rules under Gunslinger. As such, there is no Revolver firearm.
The closest would be the [Tooltip Not Found] (50 gp, 1d8 damage, 40/160 range, light, reload, misfire 1). I think that it would fine to start with that and 20 rounds of ammunition. After all, Fire Bolt does d10 with a 120 foot range, just no ability mod to damage.
As for dealing damage without magic, if you had two guns, you would be using up your bonus action action to attack with the second one, so 1d8+2 +1d6 would actually be underwhelming, compared to a 5th level firebolt (2d10), which only uses your action.
