So a bit of background. I am playing a tiefling bloodhunter and this man has been through a lot. Was talking to my DM, and we are discussing him going into a kind of berserk mode. At this point, the DM will now have control of my character since he will be out of control. We are working together to homebrew this berserk system but I’d like to hear any ideas for how to make this system that much better.
Here is a (VERY) brief overview of his backstory. (Don’t want to add too much just in case the other players see this.)
Raz is the oldest son of a wealthy family.
Born under dark circumstances (which is why he is a tiefling and why he is a bloodhunter. This is also the reason for the berserk mode.)
Father wants him dead and is actively trying to kill him.
Raz is on the run but wants to eventually take down his father.
As of right now, the main trigger is when his limits of patience are reached and his anger boils over. (For example, his father saying something about his mother would probably trigger it fairly quickly.) But I am more than happy to hear ideas for triggers as well. Please and Thank you much!
When it comes to triggers, I'd probably just go with "I'll know it when I see it." You can't really anticipate everything that will happen in your game, so just play through your character's eyes and get mad when it seems appropriate.
Also, if you and the DM both have settled on this "take me over" idea and you like it, go with it. But you as a player also have the capacity to be your character when they are out of control. Just because the character has lost it doesn't mean the player has (... I hope!). I think a lot of people would have fun playing an unhinged version of their character.
