I haven't read the new(ish) Mordenkainen book, but from what i understand, all player races with natural weapons have had their damage raised from 1d4 + STR to 1d6 + STR. Is this a general rule that i should implement into homebrew races/races that weren't updated by the book?
In other words, yes the standard natural weapon damage has been increased, but other features may be adjusted down to account for that. The book doesn't come out for another 6 weeks or so, and we can't know for certain what all the changes will be at this point. I would wait until then to update things.

:)
No its more like you pick your poison and choose which you think is the better version of the race other wise thats just an add on.
Eg. you might find the new yuan ti to be weaker than the old one.
