Hello. I ask for your forgiveness as I've haven't played since 3.5. The current group I play with are discussing different weapons and on one of my 3.5 characters I had Saitachi's these are the weapons used by Raphael in the Ninja turtles. I want too make this weapon in homebrew. Is there a way that I can. Or can we add it too the lore.
In this edition, a Sai would be a club (simple 1d4 bludgeoning), or perhaps a light hammer for the thrown property.
Anything to do with their uses to “blade lock” a sword isn’t really supported mechanically this edition and would be a narrative flourish to the dodge action or something similar.
Keep in mind that as Simple Melee weapons, in the hands of a Monk both a club and a light hammer count as Monk Weapons. That means to a Monk they are pseudo-finesse by default. And as they are both light, they can be dual wielded too. You could probably do something similar to what I did for a main-gauche: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/1338697-main-gauche-1). Something along the lines of:
”While wielding two Saitachi, if you do not use your bonus action to make a two-weapon fighting attack then you have a +1 bonus to your AC until the beginning of your next turn.”
And maybe add something like an ability to use an attack to attempt to disarm an opponent instead of deal damage. 🤷♂️
Those combined on a Light Hammer chassis should be pretty “Sai-like,” don’cha think?
Yea the sounds good. Im currently working on them right now, its a bit of a pain as these are my first full weapon from scratch without help. I do thank you for your help with this.
