With the new UA, it is looking like the developers want to make Inspiration more reoccurring so that it will be used more. While im iffy on some of the suggested changes, what I would really like to see are some new possible uses for points of inspiration beyond just granting advantage on a d20 test. I wanted to put forward a couple of ideas I had for new ways to use inspiration and see if anyone else had ideas to go with it.
1. Headstart Inspiration
When initiative is rolled, you can expend a point of inspiration to take one Action before combat begins. This action cannot be the Attack action, and if you choose to Cast a Spell you can only cast one which has a range of Self.
2. Narrative Inspiration
By expending a point of inspiration, you can add a small detail to a narrative element the DM has introduced. This detail can be something which is beneficial to the party, but should not counteract or undermine what has been put forth. The exact effect of this change can vary and is up for discussion, but the DM retains the right to veto changes that alter things in a way which is unfitting to the scenario or goes beyond the scope of this ability.
Example. The DM introduces a new NPC, a higher-up in the thieves' guild who has business with the party. A party member expends a point of inspiration and states that he/she had previously met this NPC under different circumstances, and they had departed on good terms. This suggested familiarity allows the party to have the advantage of the NPC having some initial trust of one of the party members which could aid a social aspect of the encounter. On the other hand, expending a point of inspiration to state the NPC had somehow been targeted by Feeblemind before attending the meeting would be well beyond the scope of what is intended for this option, and would not be allowed.
We haven't done the work of codifying it yet, but I will often allow "Heroic Actions" that generally boil down to taking a reaction that you wouldn't normally be able to take. Jumping in front of a killing blow on an ally, leaping to grab the hand of someone falling off a cliff, sliding under a closing door triggered by a trap, things that feel heroic and cinematic but that you shouldn't really be able to do all the time.
This is with current inspiration though. If the proposed rules go through and inspiration becomes more common - and I kind of doubt this one will be shot down - we might need to tone it down a bit.

I love that.
While Im okay with humans getting 1 inspiration per day, I am hoping we can talk WotC out of awarding inspiration every time a 20 is rolled.
