EDIT: It's finally been taken down (surprised it took this long). I said it down below, but I'll put instructions on how to recreate Custom Lineage in homebrew yourself here. For everyone who read this post and used my homebrew Custom Lineage while it was still up, I hope this was helpful! Also, thanks Team D&D Beyond for your hard work. :)
How to make Custom Lineage in Homebrew
So first, size. The race's size is determined by the base race, and there's no modifier or anything to change that with subraces, variants, etc. So you have to split it into 2 races.
Ability Score Increase is pretty simple. When you add the feature, add a Modifier and set it to Bonus --> Choose an Ability Score --> Fixed Value: 2.
For Feat, Modifier: Feat --> Choose a Feat
For Variable Trait, add 2 options, each of which can have their own modifiers and stuff. The darkvision option should be Modifier: Set Base --> Darkvision --> Fixed Value: 60. The skill option should be Modifier: Proficiency --> Choose a Skill. Also, in the little box where it tells you "Levels where Options are Chosen," just put "1". This means at level 1 you can choose 1 option. (The number represents at what level an option can be chosen, and the number of times that number is inputted means how many options can be chosen at that level. For example, "1,3,3" means 1 option at level 1, and two options at level 3.)
For Languages, add 2 modifiers. First one is Language --> Common, and the other is Language --> Choose a Language.
And you're done!
Keep in mind that when you pick a Custom Lineage, you're still technically part of a race (like Elf), just with different racial traits. If you want to take a racial trait for your race, you'll have to turn off "Feats" under "Use Prerequisites" in the character builder's Preferences/Home section.
Just out of curiosity, I was looking to do this same thing but couldn't find an easy way to add the choice of feats. Did you have to go in and make each individual feat it's own separate option?
Fair warning, these will be taken down soon. Users are not permitted to publish copyrighted content, which includes the Custom Lineage system.
You may wish to, instead, put together a guide on how you created the Custom Lineage options here and hopefully let users do it for themselves. ideally that will skirt by the regulations enough (and serve DDB's interests enough) to let it pass.

i'm so upset that they wont implement something easier than forcing us to make our own custom races in the homebrew. I'm really torn if i need to continue my subscription, but it feels like a bait and switch, getting us to buy into so much on dndbeyond then leaving the community hanging like this... It's one of the reasons I no longer suggest purchasing anything on dndbeyond to other players. It's just infuriating.

I think you should give the DDB team some credit, they've been working 80 hour weeks just to get this book up and running. Stormknight said the reason they aren't implementing Custom Lineage is because they already have implemented tools to create your own races through the homebrew tools. Since the site already has a pretty good solution for Custom Lineage, they're spending the time and resources they could've used to implement this small thing to implement bigger things.
Hello, I know this is super late, but I was wondering if you needed Tasha's Cauldron of Everything to be able to do it? I just checked the builder and I'm not seeing the option.

This is amazing! Thanks for sharing.

I also did this for myself, there's a feat modifier option that allows "Pick a feat" which is how I did it.

Sure, I'll do that.

Awesome. Thank you!
Thanks dude!!!
IT'S FINALLY BEEN TAKEN DOWN! I left the instructions for recreating Custom Lineage in the first post for your convenience.

Yup, also we ARE implementing a solution for custom lineage, however we are prioritising work by focussing on issues where there isn't a workaround.
We realise it isn't ideal, but we want to be as transparent as we can on where we are at and set reasonable expectations.

You can make the Size selection as one of the level 1 options as well.
Race Size add 2 options, named "Size - Medium" and "Size - Small", Modifier: Size --> Medium and the other Modifier: Size --> Small
sure you set reasonable expectations 4 people just said your teams expection is unreasonble

I would imagine that you would need Tasha’s, yes.
A little outdated, but still a massive help. <3 Thank you
