Homebrewing some attachments to weapons for a campaign I'm DMing – sorta a twist on the usual "you found a +2 sword" by having my PCs customize/modularize their weapons similarly to other RPG games. I know how to make a simple +1 attack/damage item, and even a +1 attack only item. But what's the way to make a +1 damage item, unchanging the attack?
For example, I want to create an item that adds +1 damage to ranged attacks with a specific weapon. I probably can't make it weapon-specific as a wondrous item and would just need to modify that weapon, but I'm sure there's a way to make an item that just adds +1 damage for ranged attacks?
You can make it weapon type specific as long as you choose one of the bows or crossbows I think, but none of the other options. Frankly I would probably just make it as plain text and let the player adjust the weapon directly on their character sheet by customizing the attack.
