I created a homebrewed Ring of Spell Storing for personal use. It's the same as the original, except I manually go in and add spells to the item that can be cast. This allows the spells I've "stored" to show up as a charge in my spell list. Great for those niche spells I don't want to prepare every day, but might need at some point and don't want to forget about by not having them on my spell list. It's not perfect, because I can't designate how many charges each spell can use out of the 5 levels. I can say a 1st level spell consumes 1 charge or a 2nd level 2 charges, but can't say this spell only has 1 use regardless of how many charges the ring has available.
Regardless, I can remember and use my own honor system. I just write in the items notes which spells I have stored at what level and qty.
My question though, I went to add a spell last night during our session and it was missing from the list. I realized after digging deeper that it's a Strixhaven spell, Vortex Warp. Is there a reason some content isn't available in the homebrew spell list for items? We have all the content in our campaign (though I'm not the one who owns it). It shows up on my character as an available spell, just not in the homebrew. I added a different 2nd level spell, made sure Vortex Warp was the one listed in the rings notes, and was hoping to just change the name on the spells description in my spell list but couldn't. I know DDB has it's odd limitations and the homebrew options are limited in their own sense. Just wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong, it's because I don't own the content, or some other issue.
Content being shared with you is not eligible for homebrewing, only the free content and content you have personally unlocked through purchase is available for homebrewing.

Damn, I thought that might be the case and it does make sense. Guess I'll have to go with what I was doing of inputting a different spell and just remembering which one I intend for it to be.
As a completely unrelated question, so I don't have to make another post. Is there anyway to create a homebrew item that is private to just me and not to my campaign? I'm not the DM, but I use the feature to make a lot of the homebrewed items we come across to share with the group, but I also use the homebrew function for things very specific to my character sheet like the Ring of Spell Storing, that I wouldn't want to share with the group or even have show up in their item lists to avoid confusion.
Once you’ve added the item to your character sheet you can remove it from your homebrew collection and that will hide it from the others in the campaign.

Am I basically deleting it if I do that? So no more editing or accessing that homebrew for any of my future characters? Just want to know what I'm getting into before I delete stuff.

No, you’re not deleting it. You’re just removing it from the collection is all. All that does is mean it won’t be shared with other players.

Yeah I've done the same in the past and have been able to use content shared via campaigns as well. That's why I was surprised that the spell I was looking for didn't show up on the list.

I’m able to homebrew using shared content
So what’s going on here?

Anything shared to me through a campaign link. This includes any and all monsters, feats, classes, etc.
It all works for me
It’s not supposed to be available as homebrew options, it’s probably a bug that they’re gonna fix soon.
