Hello! I am having an issue (suddenly, I have been fine homebrewing items for quite a while) with homebrew weapons not displaying once equipped and the players page is refreshed. I make the item fine, add it to their inventory, and equip it, and it all looks fine and normal, but then once the page is refreshed it loses all the modifiers (and i have tried with multiple, it, 3-4, and a singular modifier) on the item and displays only as the unedited item. For example, I homebrewed a set of daggers, and when equipped at first they worked fine, but then as soon as the page is reloaded, bam. They display just as regular daggers, and no stats from the modifiers display on the character sheet any longer.
Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this issue? I tried sending in a support request for assistance and they guided me here to seek answers.
Thank you in advance for any time/advice/solutions!
I'll try it, but it's happening on my players sheets on their own pcs as well. If they equip the item, it displays correctly until they refresh, or if I equip it for them, then they load their pages, it doesn't display anything of the modifiers, just the base item that was edited.
I shall still give this a try tomorrow when I'm with my laptop again.
Still looking for help on this. Does anyone know of any limits on homebrew items/etc that may be causing this? Any/all advice and help offered is very much appreciated
You said a “set of daggers” so two daggers with identical enchantments? Try adding another one and see if the originals don’t suddenly and mysteriously reappear.
I tried it three ways - Originally I created two daggers, they were mostly identical, but had one or two different modifiers on them. Then I tried just making one item for both daggers. Then I tried making two items - one a weapon and one a "wonderous item" that was the harness for the daggers with a couple of the modifiers on them for the daggers.... in all three cases, the same results - when originally added and equipped, everything showed up properly. Then, as soon as the page was refreshed, everything on those items (none of the other homebrew items equipped on the character sheet previously was affected tho) just stopped showing up all together.
Currently, I am trying to erase/delete all of my "old" homebrew content, and removing everything unnecessary from my player's sheets, then I will try to re-create the item, brand new, and see if the issue persists still. I deleted about two pages worth of homebrew content from my homebrew collections screen, so maybe?
This issue just baffles me. I've been working with homebrew items for months and never ran across this before. I am, admittedly, still a novice when it comes to homebrew items, but I like to feel as if I'm getting the hang of it, haha.
For some reason when ever I create a homebrew weapon and want to change a property or damage die the base weapon stats never change on the character sheet. Example Great axe base is 1d12. I created a Orc Double Axe using v3.5 stats damage die 2d6. No matter what ignore or change commands i used character sheet still showed 1d12. Help!

Stuff like base weapon damage cannot be altered at present. You would have to start with a Greatsword and just call it an Axe. But just a heads-up, stuff like a Barbarian’s Brutal Critical only adds a single die, not all of the weapon’s damage dice. So when using a 2d6 weapon it would only add 1d6, not both. But if it’s a d12 weapon, it adds the d12. Same goes for a Half-Orc’s Savage Attacks ability. That’s why some races and classes gain more benefit from fewer, larger damage dice in this edition of D&D.
Thanks, that's what I did used Great Sword. That's the Large version of the weapon. I still have the Medium and Small to do. But wanted to get this right first. its as right as it will get for now. It also requires proficiency in a combo of quarter staff and great axe. Good thing the notes section is big and the character sheet allows for changes or new things.

Hi GwenRae,
Sometimes it’s a browser caching issue. Try logging out and back in and see if it stops happening. It works more often than you’d think.

Just an update - issue is persisting. Any other thoughts/ideas?
