I don't see how "normal" could possibly be a descriptor for that action.
The Fate series has its own definition of Normal that includes Gilgamesh deciding that King Arturia (Arthur, but he was secretly a girl all along) should be his wife. Also that he has the ability to draw a sword that destroys realities, like he did to Iskandar's (Alexander the Great's) private version of dune with endless legions of fabled warriors.
And that's from FATE/Zero. There are like a dozen others, lol.

Hmm! Interesting question. For 5e, it's probably the rust monster.
Ask yourself, when was the last time mundane equipment was so scarce that it would be scary to lose your sword? Never? Pretty much every character STARTS the game with three weapons. You pick them up on dead monsters all the time. AND they're cheap to buy.
The rust monster destroys your precious gear! Oh, but not your actual precious gear -- magic items are immune to it, for some reason. No, the only adventurer who really has anything to fear from a rust monster is the one who just got their first full plate armor, because that's really expensive unless it isn't.
They probably did it because magic items in 5e have a blanket level of protection on them that prevents them from being destroyed casually. Generally speaking normal items being worn or wielded also have this protection. Rust monsters being one of the few exceptions being able to damage worn items.
It may be because previous editions required a ton of saving throws for items when PCs were hit with AOEs. Huge reduction in dice rolling and paperwork. Side note: older versions of the rust monster were dangerous to magic items - they got a 10% save for every plus. So even your +5 holy avenger had a 50% chance of being wiped out in one hit!
Rust monsters only lose their threat when the party has magic weapons AND magic armor.
Of course you could always put a neo rust monster in your game =)

"............anybody got any potatoes? We could drop a potato in each hole an' see which ones get viciously mauled by horrible monsters?"
QOTD: What kind of adventure have you always wanted to play in but never had the chance?
I have always wanted to do an undersea adventure, and for some reason, I keep doubting my ability to pull one off so never have.
I think I've played in just about every setting I could imagine. Back in the 80s - I was in everything from D&D, to Marvel, Star Wars, Champions, Shadow Run, Boothill, Dragonlance, Dark Sun, you name it - if it was an RPG in the 80s I played it at least six times. I've run Marvel, D&D, Star Wars, Star Frontiers (I miss this setting, though 5e pretty much has now made almost everything), and Dragonlance. But mostly, I've always run my homebrew world which has evolved immensely since late 1980.
Question: If one of your players decided to do this, how would you rule it? Would it do the damage of a Lance or Longbow? Or would it be improvised weapons damage?
I would rule, shooting a lance from a bow, impossible is how I'd rule it. Unless, like it seems to show in the gift, it was polymorphed into a "metal arrow"
New question: How much do you think your life has been affected by dnd?
Immensely. From the early on days (of 1st and 2nd edition), because of how it opened up my creativity. But far more since June 2020, after my wife's health issues, D&D has been the anchor to my sanity, my brief moment to escape the world around me for a few hours.

Why did they design it this way?
Well, I mean the Rust Monster DC is... what? 1/2? 1/8? Something really low. So I can see why it's not a threat to magic.
However, I do think they should create a Greater Rust Monster or something, that is larger, and can impact magic items.
Because at low levels, a Rust Monster can mess up a fighter whose instinct is to hit it. And get close.
Housekeeping! I don’t want to copy bits of all these messages and create a monstrosity of a message (though I’ve done it before and will do it again).
Dragonlance: Always has been my favorite setting, ever since I got the very first book in my first year of playing D&D. I am reading the new series and just got the newest book last week. I like it so far. It reminds me of the originals, though nothing can beat the original trilogy and the Twins for me.
Modrons: I agree. They are strange and, frankly, I find them dull. I ran one of the Golden Vault adventures with a lot of them and I hated it.
Rust Monsters: Without going into the math, I love rust monsters. They pose a great threat to low level characters who don’t usually fear losing gear, and you have to engineer it so that they don’t have tons of chances to get new gear for a while so they have to think on their feet. I don’t want to cripple the whole party, but they’re good for adding tension to low level games. Plus, they’re adorable. I do, in fact, also have an old stat block for Ancient Rust Monsters (or something like that. It might have referenced magic?) that makes them more threatening to more powerful players. If only I could find it…
The Sorrowsworn: I love these guys! They’re horrifying, hilarious, and I love their artwork. They may not have the most imaginative stat blocks, but that’s where GM narration and improvisation comes in! These little guys are favorites of mine!
The Worst Monster(s): Callback to third edition! (3.5) Aspects of gods. The best way to learn more about them is the Miniatures Handbook (an otherwise great book), which will show you how truly horrible they were. They were underwhelming, unoriginal, and frankly I would never use them. Thematically they don’t make sense with most games (plus, why would gods put out a piece of themselves when they have minions 10 CR higher than that…) and they aren’t very versatile. A template for building aspects would have made more sense. These are stupid. For 5e they did add some, but my least favorite creature is the… (drumroll please) Tarrasque. It is the most disappointing creature. Poor damage resistance and immunity, dull attacks, and it ruined a perfectly good piece of French folklore.

Exactly! The Dnd tarresque has nothing to do with the somewhat demonic dragon of French legend.
It is interesting that the bastard child of the "OG" Sea Serpent and a Bull that shot acidized poop at you would shift over a roughly 200 year period from a local death spirit/ river deity into a giant, lion headed turtle with really bad breath that was tamed by holy water and killed with regular clubs and pointy sticks.
Also, because I get a chuckle out of it, "why did you use that name? Why did you say martha?"
