I'll be honest, I was never really interested in 40k, and nowadays I'm doubly offput by the growing sub-community of neo-Nazis that don't seem to appreciate that the empire of man is a cautionary tale rather than an aspirational one.
yyyyyyyyeah... I just like the lore...
No doubt. I certainly am not accusing you.
Wait was 40k the universe in which orcs make machines work by believing they ought to? That's hilarious.
I've never played either of the Warhammer games, but I know a bit of the lore. Like Gnomarchy, the Nazi subset of the fanbase is part of the reason why I haven't delved deeper (the monetary cost and artistic skills required to play being the other major roadblocks). My favorite factions are the Adeptus Mechanicus and Necrons. I guess I just like transhumanism.

"............anybody got any potatoes? We could drop a potato in each hole an' see which ones get viciously mauled by horrible monsters?"
question for the day: who here is a fan of the Warhammer 40k universe?
Guilty. I got into 40k way back in high school during the mid-late ‘90s. (Yes, I’m legit old enough to at least vaguely remember when people actually thought rolling up the sleeves on your sport jacket was cool, when a cell phone was the size of a brick and almost as heavy, and when people walked around with boomboxes*👇 on their shoulders.) I saw it at, I think maybe GenCon when it came to or near Philly one year, or some nerd con at any rate. I thought it was AMAZEBALLS!! I dabbled a bit and then mostly fell out of it because I realized that girls and pot were muuuuch better investments of both my time and money. I got back into it around six or seven years ago, but I never got into the tournament scene or anything, jus played with friends. Then they lost me again when 9th edition came out. I missed my templates and vehicle facings, without them it just stopped being the same game to me anymore. I still love the lore though. Too effing cool.

For the kids out there, a boombox was a thing people used to play music back in the day. It was a heavy, boxlike device about 2 ½ ft. long, by about 1 ft. tall and almost as deep. It had two big round things on the front called “speakers” where the sound came out, and in the middle was a tiny little screen that you couldn’t use by touching it, you had to use buttons and knobs instead, and it wasn’t in color and it didn’t connect to the internet either because most people didn’t know what that was yet.It did connect to something called “radio,” which was kinda like streaming, but you couldn’t pick your songs. Instead other people picked the songs and if you wanted to listen to something different you had to flip through different stations (streams) and hope someone was playing something you liked. Below that screen with the knobs next to it was a little door you could open and insert a tiny cartridge a little smaller than a small cell phone is now. Those tiny cartridges had the music inside of them stored on itty bitty little magnetic ribbons, but thy could only hold about a couple dozen songs on them at most, so people needed lots and lots of them to hold all their favorite songs, and they weren’t free either, we had to actually go to physical stores and buy them with money. (Money is the same stuff you use ***** to give to people, only made of green paper.)
I thought money came from the little plastic cards we carry around?
People still use those?!? God how primitive.
Imagine my surprise when you have landlords that only accept those little non-green rectangles that have all sorts of arcane symbols on them. You have to pull them out of a miniature spellbook, and they don't even work unless you sign your truename. Seems sketchy.

And the color red makes them go FASTA!.
Reminds me of this line of research which later found that red players have a slight advantage in Halo matches.

Hi! I'm EJO. I am a silly billy who forgets to play Genshin Impact every day and totally DOESN'T simp for at least three different ninja girls. Some other facts about me:
Milio has been ditched. Now Xerath is my friend.
My average accuracy in Marvel Rivals is about 15%.

I've heard the legends, but they couldn't possibly be true.
Green paper as currency? It will never catch on.
