Hey gibber a few more questions, and I'm not trying to fool you. with the 25000 gold we have to spend, and no magic items to spend them on, can we buy ANY base rule non-magical item? such as mounts, health potions, guns, and that kind of thing? Health potions are technically magical but as with many common and uncommon items they have a set cost. You said earlier to someone that its just a long rest between fights to reset of gear, but I feel like (just an opinion you can do it however you like) that equipment should be reset completely as well, its the only way to keep it fair as if you had a tough competitor in the first round, you might lose enough abilities that the next opponent would have a great advantage. With this rule I think a ban would have to be implemented about items/abilities that only let you use them once a year. Also is there going to be opportunities to ban certain magic items as some are completely broken with my best example being Wave with a Champion Fighter as I've easily been able to take down a Metallic Greatwyrm in a previous campaign with it. Alright this should be plenty don't want to make this any longer, good day!

You won’t lose abilities in the second round, I assume by “long rest” Gibber means that recharges everything on your sheet - including things that recharge at dawn etc. Allowing any set item with a price to be bought means this tournament is less about a battle between sheets and more about who can afford the most Spelljammer helms, Infernal war machines, and other things like that. I don’t think a mount would really be fair either, especially since no one gets set up rounds anyway. Equipment reset doesn’t really have a point. I do agree on the bans on magic items, no artifacts first off, but your choices are already limited by the fact that the magic item has to be attuneable by both combatants and be able to be used by both.

Making the tournament less focused on items and more focused on the character sheets themselves has benefits and downsides, but allowing money rolls and knowledge of what items exist to basically determine the outcome of fights doesn’t seem fair. You can just buy 300 clockwork amulets and never roll below a 10.

I know there's no prep round, but what about prepping beforehand with bardic inspiration, or mage armor?
Both of those would be one prep round, and that greatly benefits spellcasters that already have advantage over martials.

I mean a significant time before combat.
Any time before combat is a prep round. You could prep death ward before combat at that point, summon spells, or invulnerability.

Besides, if there's no prep time, are the martials going to sleep in their armor?
The long rest is more metaphorical is what I thought? It’s just a complete refresh of your sheet. We aren’t going by days or day/night cycles or counting hours before fights.

So there isn't time to cast mage armor, but there is enough time to long rest??? That seems pretty illogical to me.
Youre thinking of this like a campaign, there is no “time” you just refresh your sheet. I think casting spells beforehand is different than your sheet starting out wearing armor. You’re not assumed to be starting out waking up in the morning, you are assumed to start in an arena with all of your items equipped.

Maybe but I want an "official" ruling on this. Also, long resting does not fully refresh your sheet.

That’s why I said it was more metaphorical. We aren’t playing this like characters will be in a game for consecutive days. I mean, what abilities do you have that aren’t addressed by long resting? If it’s (like I said before) items that recharge at dawn and whatnot, those are magic items you don’t start out with anyway. If you’re just trying to pre-cast spells before combat, that’s just prep rounds. Unless you’re using divine intervention, which I’m certain Gibber will ban anyway.

Yeah, no prepping between or right before a round outside of resting. You could interpret it as over the course of days, and all preparations get erased right before. Or you could just interpret it with no flavor at all and just battle after battle with recharges in between, as far as I'm aware there'd be no gameplay difference either way. Also, yeah, probably need to ban divine intervention or at least have it only give a light buff instead of whatever.
Also, this is in fact not going to start in March, I'm sorry about my procrastination. If this were to hypothetically be hosted again it would probably be by the winner.

No magic items can be bought, cause like Cyno said you can abuse a lot out of that (plus it's hard to find concrete prices for all of them, even by rarity things can be over or under priced). I'm thinking there might be like 1 to start out of a certain low rarity but yeah, and I'm unsure about potions. Mounts are a hard 'idk', guns are the same. Like Cyno said equipment does reset, can you give an example of magic items with a one year recharge? Magic items are already gonna be dropped and not owned from the getgo, so requesting an OP magic item runs the risk of your opponent using it against you instead.
