Traits
Tail Spike Regrowth. The manticore has twenty-four tail spikes. Used spikes regrow when the manticore finishes a long rest.
Actions
Multiattack. The manticore makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws or three with its tail spikes.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) piercing damage.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6 + 3) slashing damage.
Tail Spike. Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, range 100/200 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) piercing damage.
Description
A manticore has a vaguely humanoid head, the body of a lion, and the wings of a dragon. Its long tail ends in a cluster of deadly spikes that can impale prey at impressive range.
The Manticore uses the Multiattack action as its action during its *turn*.
The Multiattack action here means that during its turn:
It makes 1 attack roll for its bite AND 2 more, one for each claw
or
It makes 3 ranged attack rolls with its tail spikes
i got one as a pet 10/10 would recommend keeping as a pet
I love this thing, first one shot I ever played, this was the first thing that I personally ever killed that wasn't some sort of slime.
It has flight bro, it'll just fly up and shoot poison needles at you
hubba hubba
Per the description you can try to talk with them, but they're gonna need to be convinced they'll get something worthwhile from it, and with their low INT I'd say you need to keep your argument simple or it'll decide figuring out if it's worthwhile is too much trouble and go back to trying to eat you.
Sure. If you can find a spear that would do 68 damage in one attack.
The manticore is buff
I know this is late, but the chimera would win easily, first of all it's CR (and almost HP) is two times higher then the manticore, the manticore has more range however, so if it managed to fly out of range of the fire breath and then start attacking melee after it's out of spikes it might have a chance, assuming it hits most of it's spikes, which it should hit around half of them as it has a +5 to hit and the chimera has 14 ac, with an average of 7 damage thats 84 hit points, but the manticore only has 7 intelligence, so likely this wouldn't happen and it would just be killed fairly easily by the Chimera
Yeah. Ik. I commented that before taking a good look at the stat blocks.
just got done having to fight this thing by myself recently and nearly died, escaped with 1 hp
I love the manticore, perfect low to mid level challenges.
I hope my DM doesn't use him
Your dm definitely used him
