Undead Fortitude. If damage reduces the zombie to 0 hit points, it must make a Constitution saving throw with a DC of 5 + the damage taken, unless the damage is radiant or from a critical hit. On a success, the zombie drops to 1 hit point instead.
Actions
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d6 + 1) bludgeoning damage.
Description
Undead zombies move with a jerky, uneven gait. They are clad in the moldering apparel they wore when put to rest, and carry the stench of decay.
Describe the following to your players to provide better immersion - (show, don't tell during their first encounter):
The medium undead reanimated corpse shambles about in a jerky, uneven gait without fear or hesitation. Drawn from the grave, half decayed and partially consumed by worms, it wears the tattered moldering remains of its burial clothes. A rank odor of death and decay hangs heavy in the air.
In addition, you might want to allow them an Intelligence - Religion check to know the following (accumulated - a roll of 25 or above would know all):
DC5 (very easy): attacks with a slam
DC10 (easy): moves slowly
DC15 (medium): does not have any damage resistances nor damage vulnerabilities
DC20 (hard): attacking the creature with poison has no effect - ability to regenerate health unless attacked with radiant damage or a critical strike
DC25 (very hard): immune to being poisoned - darkvision out to 60'
Zombies are harder to beat then Guards. This is confusing.
yes very good, nice and informative.
of course! if Guards could beat Zombies, why would they need Adventurers?!
Nice
Where to do I find variations notes like the Ash Zombies in Thundertree of MLoP?
:D
tanks
used this for my dungeon
Why is this not tagged as undead?
Thanks for the Content
HAHAHAHA
That Undead Fortitude trait is pretty cool. Makes a zombie with just 1 hit point, a problem at first level.
i fought only two and it destroyed our party at all level 3
Ok
I fought 8 with a party level of 1 and we destroyed them there is only 3 characters
lol im new to d&d im a dm I need to know good monsters can you guys help me
Zombies are usually a goodie. People who haven't played before already know what they are, instead of being like, I know nothing of the threat of this big floaty eyeball thing.
The language is wrong. According to the SRD, it should be "understands the languages it knew in life but can’t speak".
A guard could easily beat a zombie if you played him well. Remember, a zombies speed is 20 feet. So the guard can move away and defend with his spear.
if you figgure this out i will be proud
The dice giveth, and the dice taketh away.
With undead fortitude, you are even more at their mercy than usual.
