Posted Jan 31, 2022Probably not... likely too powerful. If you want a tough giant-like final boss, maybe use an Ettin (CR4).

Posted Jan 31, 2022A typical level one character has 8-14 hp, and this cyclops deals an average of 19 damage in one hit, twice per turn. If you want to use a cyclops as a boss, I would make its greatclub only deal 1d8+4 damage (an average of 8) per hit. Perhaps give it some more interesting actions, like a grab attack that can pick up a player character.

Posted Apr 13, 2022If you are playing at home and this is allowed at your table, knock yourself out...but the Staff of the Python requires attunement, so if you have no other items you want to attune to, you can use 3 of these staves.

Posted Dec 24, 2022So... In mythology, cyclops are actually not allways total idiots, they are very skilled blacksmiths in fact, in certain myths it was the cyclops that created not only the lightning bolts of Zeus, but the helmet of Hades and the trident of Poseidon. So if you use one in a campaign, I think you can add to it's wizdom and intelligence stats. Plus that in certain myths they are invulnerable to fire, so that could also be added if you wish to make a more mythologically fitting. In certain myths cyclops also have the ability to mimic voices incredibly well.

Posted Jan 27, 2023Absolutely not. Cyclops has way too many hitpoints for a level 1 boss, and its attacks do too much damage. I would recommend something at most CR3-4 as a boss, but don't choose something ridiculous.

Those are cyclopes born by Gaia, DnD cyclopes are based off of Polyphemus from the Odyssey, a cyclops born by Poseidon, which is entirely separate from the skilled Gaia-born cyclopes.

Posted Jan 18, 2024It was a good catch, and a pointless attribute. However, a monocular individual can still see 20/20. Noticing the distance target and being able to hit it are two different things. However, they probably also have poor peripheral vision, so they could have swapped the poor depth perception out for that, though I’m not sure how to translate that into a game mechanic.

Posted Jan 21, 2024Most parties at level one are getting steamrolled unless your table is 8 players just wait until there level four.

Posted Feb 19, 2024Only if you have an army of level 1 characters. Party size would need to be in the double digits otherwise they get brutalized, but hey at least the survivors will level up a few times ;)

Posted Jul 11, 2024Poor peripheral vision could be represented as whatever it is fighting gains the Pack Tactics feature. It wouldnt be able to properly react in a defensive manner if there was something in front of it and beside it.
