One of the things that I have found challenging about my players using D&D Beyond during our games is the fact that I can't quickly see what their alignment is. I can quickly pull up any of my players character sheet, but I then have to dig into it to find where the Alignment is listed. Most character sheets have the alignment at the top of the page. Why has D&D Beyond decided to bury that information behind extra clicks?
Would love to see it moved to the top of the character sheet w/ the rest of the basic character information.

It's in the place it should be, with the character personal details. I see no reason to move it. However, I'm probably biased because I don't personally use or like the alignment system and there hasn't been any campaigns I've ever played (not even back in 3.5 edition) where alignment actually mattered. Usually it's ignored or I've been told to leave it blank and the DM assigns it based on actions my character has taken (which is how such morality alignment works in real life).
So to me moving it into higher position would be an annoyance more than anything.
A DM should have a DM's screen or a note up to list alignment, passive perceptions etc, without having to go into individual sheets. This is the DM's job to set up. I believe D&D Beyond are working on a digital version of a DM's screen, but in the meantime you can easily set this up yourself.

There are several instances where I have encountered in Avernus where things only happen if a character is of Good alignment...that is when it becomes an issue. I hate having to ask them what their alignment is.

You have access to their character sheets. Check them, make a note. If you're playing physically at a table add it to your DM screen. If playing digitally keep a note in a text editor or digital sticky note - both of which are already available in most Windows or Mac computers within the last decade, and almost all smartphones and tablets have a note / memo feature you can use.
My point is, I see no reason why I should have my sheets on here changed to something I find less favourable, affecting all my characters in all my games, just for something that would take you all of 50-60 seconds to set up which you'd only need to do once.

I think its probably because the vast majority of the time, it just doesn't come up.
I would probably just make a list on the campaign page of what everyone and their alignment is, since it seems like Avernus is one of the few modules where it does matter.
On another tangent it might be helpful to have Background earlier in the creation process, after race and before class. Like you were building the character in chronological order.
In the character sheet, the first thing you see in the top left corner is the character name, gender, race, class, and level. All I am saying is that It would be nice if alignment was listed there as well.
+1 for this, new to D&D beyond and we just went around in circles for a bit trying to work out where this was set and displayed. I get not everyone needs or wants it front and centre but I think there's plenty of screen real estate available to include this with the other salient character attributes like race and class.
where can i find the alignment of a character on the sheet?

The reason why alignment is under the description tab is privacy. Only the player and campaign DM can see the description or notes tabs. This way the player can share information with the DM but keep secrets from other players.
