Hello! Making a custom shortsword for one of my player's monk. I want it to have an attribute of giving them an extra ki point per short rest. How would I get that to show up properly on their character sheet?
Items don't allow to add an Action so you could only put the text of the mechanic in the item's description. Above that you could make a feat or at least a Custom Action that could put the text somewhere other than the Inventory tab.
Alternatively, you could attach a Charge to the magic item to represent the additional Ki, but keep in mind the player will have to manually uncheck the box every time they take a short rest.
I did this by creating a custom spell that does nothing but recharge 1 spent ki point. Then you add that spell to the item as a granted bonus spell, costing 1 charge per use.
Now you can use the charges to cast the spell (as a free action) to regain the charges. Sure, the player has to manually recharge the ki points, but the item is tracking the spent charges and may be set to regain them at a short rest, and the player is reminded of his ability to regain ki points by seeing the "Regenerate Ki" spell (or whatever you may call it) in his actions/spell list.
Not perfect, but good enough in my opinion. :)
