Hi I am unsure if is a bug with the current system and if is being left cause thee new sheet may fix it. But I have made a number of Magic Items for my players where I have filled in the charges reset during a long or short rest but when they hit the buttons on their sheet the charges do not reset so they manually have to go through and "recharge" them. Like have I actually done something silly and the system works or is it the system is bugged, help would be appreciated.

This is broken for me, too. I made an Eye of Agamotto item, still set to private if a reference is needed. It should reset the charge on long rest, but doesn't.
Yeah, I've noticed this for a while now, I just assumed the functionality wasn't built in yet. Can we get confirmation whether this is a bug or if it's just not implemented yet?
Items do not automatically recharge. By any means.
This is how the "rests" and character sheet and items work.
There are plans to alter homebrew/item systems that may allow this, so, hang tight.

Could you explain what do you mean Cyb3rM1nd? This was a functionality that used to exist on dndbeyond, and no longer works. That sounds like a bug to me.
Items uses are represented by charges in both official and homebrew items. Most official items regain their uses at dawn, so not tied to a rest in any way.
However there are two items that I will link again- Hat of Wizardry and Dark Shard Amulet- that regain their uses (recharge) after a rest.
This is still an issue. Created an item this morning w/ 1 charge that should reset on long rest, but it does not do so.
While items may not "automatically recharge by any means", the entire point of that dropdown appears to give us the ability to set it to do so. Would really like this fixed.
I talked to staff about this - it's a design issue, rather than a bug. My understanding of the situation is as follows:
There are many items in Dungeons & Dragons that regain variable charges under specific circumstances (short/long rest or dawn/dusk). This meant that, way back when the magic items system was put in place, the team didn't implement a system for this, as it might cause difficulties going forward.
Yes, there should be a system for magic items to regain charges on rest or dusk/dawn, including "fully recharge" and the ability to regain partial charges of set or variable amounts.
I am confident that this will be introduced as the team work through improving the homebrew system and underlying tools.

bump. I made an item and double checked that i have everything checked and the newest item added to the sheet. no change.

In the same boat i tems that worked before the character sheet update no longer work and new item are super broken. Any hep would be huge.
Would love to have this bug fix - just gave a nice item to our rogue ^_^
Please note that with the new character sheet, taking a short rest or long rest now requires confirmation within a 4 second window.

Hi Stormknight,
Thanks for your message! I'm afraid I can confirm that this still does not work.
The item is equipped and attuned.
Settings in the homebrew item:

Tested with Dark Shard Amulet and Hat of Wizardry both items from Xanathar's. Neither of them properly reset their charges after a long rest.

It used to exist, and now does not exist. Hopefully it will come back to us soon.
Magic items on the character sheet still do not automatically recharge according to the Charge Reset Condition.
I'm having this issue now too.
Not a bug or issue.

Having the name issue too. Haven't been able to get it to work.
This bug is still happening to me. Does anyone know if this has been logged with the dev team and if we'll see a fix for this soon?
