So I have made a few homebrews for my Roll20 campaign that we play every Saturday. First I would like to thank who ever came up with this platform it is amazing and all my players love it, with that said i do have some issues.
Not sure if this is a bug or what not but i feel it is at best constructive feed back for the Dev team.
So I have made; like previously stated, tons of homebrew subclasses. From a Raven queen pact to a bardic herald and many more. Now what I don't get is when I finish some of them ( not many only like 2 or 3 ) give me the below message
This Subclass cannot be shared with the community for the following reasons:
This homebrew Subclass has data mapped to it that is licensed content or private homebrew. This typically occurs when licensed or private homebrew spells are linked to the Subclass.
Remember, private homebrew is automatically shared with other users in your campaigns and does not need to be shared with the community for players to access.
Now I have gone back taken key words out removed the [Tooltip Not Found] links removed all links even removed copy and pasted tables for level and spell gained ( which I added to give it a more official look ). I can't seem to figure out why i am getting this. this message is very Vague and doesn't really tell me what is wrong. I have re created the subclass using different silly names and just copy and pasted and or rewritten the text and I still get this so I am confused as to what is causing this. If Moderators or Devs would like to look through my account and my homebrews these are the following that are being flagged.
The Raven - Warlock Pact
Circle of the Eclipse - Druid Circle
Circle of Thorns - Druid Circle
Oath of Eschalon - Paladin Oath an oath that is particular to my world.
Just not quite sure what is preventing it from being shared to the community, and i have spent weeks now trying to change and variate the content. From what I am seeing, there is no rhyme or reason for it. At first I thought it was because I made a Raven Queen Specific Pact for warlocks which is why I changed the name The Raven Queen to just The Queen or The Raven never using the full TRQ and it never changed anything. Eventually I ignored it and moved on but when a Paladin Oath got the same flag and none of what was presented was sourced from any D&D material god i decided to investigate and research and came up dry. So now I am reaching out to the Forums and community and Moderators and devs for answer. I don't have to have it published, just it would be nice to allow others to enjoy my creations as well.
Also Side two question:
Is there any way we can possibly get a button in our campaign players Character creation to just allow Homebrew content from that Campaign to be viewed in creation, or content that the DM or Players have added to their library. That way players of a game can see just our content and not everyone's.
Is there any plans to create a virtual TT for DNDBeyond so people like me that dropped 350 dollars here don't have to drop another 60 to 350 dollars on Roll20 to get the map packs and lightning and over all module benefits?
glad to hear that you and your players are enjoying using D&D Beyond!
The message you're seeing means that your homebrew contains something that isn't in the Basic Rules or SRD. Usually it's spells that cause this.
Currently, D&D Beyond will not allow you to share homebrew that requires the end user to own other content, before they can fully use your homebrew.
There are options that have been suggested by other users for the future, such as flagging published homebrew as requiring certain purchases before it is functional, so you may see Druid Subclass - circle of Darkness (requires Player's Handbook). There's no promise this is coming, but it is something that has been requested.
As for the side questions:
The option to activate homebrew at a campaign level and to manage it in a more granular fashion, will be coming in a future update for campaigns.
There are currently no plans to create a virtual TT for D&D Beyond. The primary thinking here is that there are solutions out there that manage VTT quite well and there are currently MANY features yet to create for D&D Beyond, that are currently unavailable anywhere, which will be much more useful for the community.
Yeah I saw that reasoning in my investigation into the matter. But there is nothing in there that isn't in the basic rule set or SRD. And the spells I am using are all spells I believe that are in PHB or XGtE. Unless the XGtE spells are the ones causing the issue.
It is good to hear that my 1st one is being addressed, sounds like for now I either have to spend countless hours designing maps over again or buy map packs from the VTT
Ok so Update I went into my Paladin Oath and removed the spell tooltip tag for healing spirit since that was the only spell that wasn't out of the PHB and i am still getting the same error message.
You wouldn't be saying that the simple presence of the word Healing spirit would kick it back are you?
::EDIT:: If we use a template from a subclass that is out of a book other than PHB would that Kick it back also? If so would going in and redesigning it as a from scratch work better. Although I think that my Druid of the Thorns was done this way and it still kicked it back.... Like I said I am confused more than anything. I am not sure if you have the ability to look at My Homebrew stuff and if that would add insight into the issue. Again thanks for all your help
ok then so that makes since I guess, so when creating classes make sure all spells come from the PHB not Basic Rules, and do not use the templates of subclasses that are not in the PHB.
Now to clarify when you say mechanical you are more so referring to spells not so much stuff that are added under bonuses like Choose additional Language and what not correct
::EDIT:: Also as far as getting them approved is each Document ( in this case ) put into a que? and if so does pulling them out to fix a error in wording or what not put it back in the same Que position or does it reset the Que ?
The content of the Basic Rules are free for everyone. The PHB is purchased content and is not free.
Make sure all spells come from the Basic Rules (not from the PHB) and start your subclass from scratch or by copying a class from the Basic Rules.
With regards submission as community content, yes - the homebrew goes into a queue to be reviewed and moderated, though there are some fairly major changes coming to how this works.
Please note that you do NOT need to publish your homebrew to use it, or share it with your friends via a campaign. Only publish if you've fully tested the homebrew and are happy that it works fully and want to share it with the entire community.
I am receiving the same error and have gone over the steps i do not see where i am messing up would it be possible to get help and see if i have done something i did not realize was incorrect?
This homebrew Subclass has data mapped to it that is licensed content or private homebrew. This typically occurs when licensed or private homebrew spells are linked to the Subclass.
Having a look, I can see a few issues with your homebrew sorcerer.
Within BASIC INFORMATION you have set under spellcasting that they "can cast spells" - this is an option designed for classes that don't have spellcasting. Setting this on will remove the spellcasting ability of your core class (and all of the sorcerer abilities that go with that) and replace it with a new spellcasting mechanic. I strongly advise leaving this field blank, same with "spell prepare type"
You've also defined that the subclass knows all wizard spells, many of which are in additional books like Xanathar's Guide, Volos etc - I believe that this is why you are seeing the message that you currently see.
For me, I was making a "hexblade" warlock and it didn't let me because there may be stuff from other books that were not purchased. You may have to replace them with the spells provided.
So, just for clarification, if we link a custom spell, for example, we won't be able to share a subclass that uses it (say, as part of a Cleric Domain spell), even if that homebrew spell is "published, approved"?
So, just for clarification, if we link a custom spell, for example, we won't be able to share a subclass that uses it (say, as part of a Cleric Domain spell), even if that homebrew spell is "published, approved"?
That is correct. This is because the system sees an external link (a link that uses the www,something.com format) rather than an internal link (such as [.spell]A Spell[./spell]) and thus blocks it from being published.

You can attach the spell to the subclass, you just cannot include the hyperlink. If you attach the spell to the subclass,* as long as you have published those spells, you will still be able to publish the subclass. You just won’t be able to put the active link to the spell in the description. But the spell will still be available on the character sheets as long as the folks who’ve added the subclass also add your spells to their collection too. *(Spells could be attached to your subclass as subclass spells like the Cleric domain spells you mentioned, or as a unique feature like how the Way of the Open Hand subclass for monks has the 11th level Tranquility feature lets them cast Sanctuary once per day.)

I added the link originally, but then removed it, and the message is still there. Is there a way to reset it, or do I just need to rebuild the feature where the link was?

I have provided a picture of the Circle of Thorns Sub class hope this helps cause I don't see anything out of the norm

The words "Healing Spirit" shouldn't cause a problem - the message is triggered by mechanical inclusion of an element from a paid book.
It's important to note that the Player's Handbook is not the Basic Rules / SRD.
You can check the source of any spell in D&D Beyond by looking up the spell - the source will be indicated in the bottom-right corner of the page.
This also means that if you start with a subclass such as Battlemaster as your template, that will also not be allowed to be published.
