We are excited to see all the activity here for the first phase of beta - thanks so much for your participation.
Several of the threads in the beta forum are missing an important point about what's available currently, so I thought I would pin this post to hopefully clear up some of that.
Only the Basic Rules (SRD) content is live as of now!
If you can't find a certain spell, monster, or magic item, it's likely because it is not in the SRD.
We will absolutely have all the official content available as we get a little further down the road - thanks again for helping us test!
Might want to do a few other stickies like App will happen at some times and here is the info we have about paid content etc etc

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination. I will protect those who cannot protect themselves, I will protect even those I hate so long as it is right.
I'm probably just unaware but what makes content SRD or not? For example myconids are in the standard monster manual but aren't available yet. So why are some monster manual monsters SRD and others not? Thanks!

In a nutshell, character archetypes, spells, and monsters are SRD if they are core and required for the game (or were included in the 3.5 OGL). Spells that expand the role of a class, or monsters that are iconic to D&D rather than general fantasy (like Beholders and Mind Flayers) are held behind paywalls. Copyright.

There is a difference between the Basic Rules and the SRD, though they overlap significantly. Both are freely published by WotC and contain most of the same content, but for different purposes: the SRD gives the framework of the entire game, but not all the options within it, as a skeleton for third parties to create officially-blessed new options to plug into that framework. The Basic Rules give more options for some things (e.g. Backgrounds) but in a narrower scope of the game, so that a narrow game can be played in its entirety as a free preview of the full game. (Also, the Basic Rules were developed at a time when there were no plans for a full SRD, and then those plans changed and the Basic Rules were kind of abandoned in favor of the SRD, but there is still content in the Basic Rules that is not in the SRD).
This site refers to the SRD as the Basic Rules. That's obviously confusing, and to my knowledge incorrect. And it will matter when the character builder goes live: the SRD has only one Background, Acolyte, whereas the Player Basic Rules have 6, IIRC. Will all characters in the beta be Acolytes? Does Curse have permission to use the Basic Rules in addition to the SRD? Has WotC abandoned the old Basic Rules and now refers to the SRD as the Basic Rules? That would be the most confusing possibility.
Thank you . I have been wondering what the difference is. That makes it understandable, although how they define some as Iconic and not others doesnt always make sense but I will go with your definition.

Thank you for pointing this out. I am unsure how we define iconic as in witchs bolt is iconic?? But Copyright makes sense as for now this is a free version.

The "iconic" rule is mostly for the monsters: Beholders, Mind Flayers, Gith, Slaad, and other historical D&D creations are not included. A large proportion of monsters from the MM are actually present, though.
With spells, they suggest that the 5.1 OGL includes: 1.) any spell derived from a spell present in the 3.5 OGL; and 2.) any spell intrinsic to the functionality of a class, such as the Ranger's Hunter's Mark. Witch Bolt doesn't fall into either category.
Generally, it is a balancing act between creating a system that is complete and playable within the OGL and for derivative works that use it, while still protecting WotC copyright on the remainder of the game.
Funny, actually. It mentions crawling in the title, but not in the actual paragraph of rules.
While climbing or swimming, each foot of movement costs 1 extra foot (2 extra feet in difficult terrain), unless a creature has a climbing or swimming speed. At the GM’s option, climbing a slippery vertical surface or one with few handholds requires a successful Strength (Athletics) check. Similarly, gaining any distance in rough water might require a successful Strength (Athletics) check.

Yes, also in the pdf version of the SRD is missing.
During the beta test of D&D Beyond, we'll only be including content that is freely available in the D&D 5th edition SRD and D&D 5th edition Basic Rules and will not include additional content from a Commercially Released Book or Supplement.
All of the remaining published content from the PHB, DMG, MM and other D&D 5th edition books will be added to D&D Beyond for product release - the cost for accessing this material has not yet been announced.

I do stuff, sometimes.

Ha. Glad I checked this first. Was going to let you know several spells are missing from the compendium. Now I know why.

This is good to know! I was looking for some specific monsters and did not see them listed. Still, I love this and cannot wait for the full content!
Keep up the great work!

Under Multiclass Spellcasting table in the compendium, it should be "3rd" level not "3nd" level
Think this is right: On 'Between Adventures' under 'Crafting', 3 people with proficiencies should get the cost of plate armour down to 500gp, no?
Hail of Thorns is missing.

Hello. In basic rules -> multiclassing. The 1/3rd casters are not in the rules for how to determine spell slots.
There is only 1 feat visible in the feats list

A dwarf with a canoe on his back? What could go wrong?
Have y'all considered having a neon-flashing sign on the home page and character creator page to point this out?
