still nothing? even after this long. this really is just sad. you would think that they would at least have a dev post something to the thread to keep people informed. I was really looking forward to using boons and other features. I figured if I waited patiently enough that they would implement it, but it seems that they have forgotten about this entirely. of course, I could just be dumb or blind, after all the only source of information that I have is from my activity using the site and its features as well as this thread.
All Epic Boons are turning into Feats in, like, what, a month? Why would they create an entirely new system to handle them when it’d be wasted work as soon as the new DMG lands anyway?
I didnt know that. thanks for the info though. and i thought that they wherent allowed to put boons and gifts into the feats section becuase of some sort of technicality? like i said in my previous post i may just be dumb or blind though.

The technicality is that they are not currently feats. But when the new rules books drop they will be released feats, ergo…. In essence, it proved simpler, easier, and most of all cheaper to change the rules than to change the system.

Chris Cao literally wants to end DnDBeyond
why would he want to do that. didnt they just spend a buttload of money on aquiring it and reports showing just how much they expect to earn from it? seems kind of counter productive. and if that was the case why would they continue to put out content for it at such a fast rate?
I couldn't tell you. I'm only going on various leaks. He was made VP of digital game development, but wasn't responsible for the acquisition of DnDB. Frankly I don't know what's going through his head, or what he wants. He said he's never played and doesn't have any interested in playing D&D, but he "knows what gamers want."
He successfully made the case to WotC and Hasbro that the future of D&D is an online, digital version of the game, but that Beyond posed one of the biggest threats to that future. WotC nullified that thread by buying it. It seems that Cao had teams working on their own version of Beyond, and (this is just speculation) doesn't like this rival work doing the job that his team were setting out to do. To me that sounds like it was an insult to his pride, even though it's now basically his to do what he wants with; he has given a directive to "destroy" DNDB.
I feel that this is going to be a gradual process, more like a frog in hot water rather than death by a thousand cuts, with little things like the removal of the option to buy specific features from sourcebooks a la carte. (eg, only buying the class options, or one specific class option, piecemeal).

This thread was started in 2018, a little over 6 years ago, and long before the announcement of the 2024 books. Yes, it's simpler to incorporate the upcoming changes rather than finish updating the old ones.
But I don't think they're giving us those new books for free, even if you did buy the originals. We've been waiting since 2017 for all the features to be added from a game that was published in 2014. Now we'll have to give up on waiting for something we already paid for, just so we can buy their new version?

This does shed some light on why piecemeal is gone. When will they learn a free market is the best market?

I know how long we’ve been waiting for what.
Trust me, I know.
Free? Most have Already Paid for the DMG on DNDB. If you pay for something you should be entitled to get the finished product. Making us wait 6+ years only for them to say "Uh, actually we don't feel like completing this transcription, we got other stuff to do" isn't on.
The people putting this stuff onto the site/app aren't even the ones responsible for designing the game to begin with; I'm sure it's not as easy as copy and paste, but it sure feels like they could have fixed this particular issue back before WotC even acquired them.
i don't think he is trying to target you i think he is just quoting you because you are the only one that is responding, and yes we know you aren't responsible its just that this is very frustrating for many reason most of which have already be said but the best we get as responses is usually just another customer instead of an actual representative who can actually address our grievances in any meaningful way. we don't want to wait this long for something that is in a BASE BOOK that we have already purchased and owned on the site for LITERAL YEARS just to be forced to have to purchase a new version of it that probably won't even have the features we have been requesting. just because features may be in the book doesn't mean that they will implement them into the site. and it's the lack of any result or response from an official source that is irritating. it makes us as a consumer base feel neglected by a company that owns the thing that we love and if we want to continue to use the thing, we love then there is nothing we can do about it except just go along with whatever they deem reasonable in their own eyes for us to have. now this may have been a bit of a rant, but it really does feel like they don't care.
i know some people will probably read this and think "well just don't use dnd beyond" and i agree with the idea of "if something is causing problems or you don't like it then don't use it" but the problem is that a lot of use have already spent HUNDREDS of dollars to use and have content on this site and we don't want to have to go and pay for all of that content again just to use it somewhere else, i.e. physical books to use in person or repurchasing content permissions on other sites since the licenses that we paid for are for dnd beyond only. sorry for the rant its just irritating.
To be fair, during those 6 years they changed owners like 3 times and had about 4 to 5 books to add every years, so i think its fair to give them benefit of the doubts. i do agree that they should at least finish the original 3 books first.
what were missing from DMG and MM is blatantly missing. i'm sure many people would like templates to be added and magic items not even doing their job and adding bonuses makes things weird and forgetful. as for the PHB, the fact that classes do not even have activations for their own bonuses makes thing just like magical items. one could expect those three basic books, like literally first books to at least be finished at this point.
another point of contention is the fact that everyone wanted the full on VTT to be a thing before anything else was even finished. proof that it was too big of a job is the fact that the encounter builder is still in beta after more then 3 years in the making. the fact that the one who was working on it felt depressed and out of it for most of that time means something really bad was happening in the business. at this point i would say, they are not the ones having a problem most of the time, but us just asking way too much of them in so short amount of time.
at this point i would say, with WotC things have gone into hyperdrive, which is a good thing... but at the same time with all the books from 3rd parties coming in, its gonna be really hard to work on the actual function of the site. so i'm not really expecting much more.

Asking to much in a short time? We've been asking for years coming close to almost a decade (yes I know I'm rounding) and we are asking for the basics. They are the ones who keep trying to add things to their own already full plates and lists. They keep adding third party content, or features that while nice aren't necessary take the encounter builder for example, the only thing it does is keep track of initiative and monster health, while this can be helpful it isn't any more helpful then just a piece of paper. If it was incorporated into the maps and they actually where usable together than that might be a really cool thing but it's not something that a bunch of people where demanding (to my knowledge at least I could be wrong) I can understand adding the maps and that having a high priority because there was a very large desire for that from the community. But that doesn't justify them just ignoring basic features from base books. And those features which should have been finished years ago have just been getting pushed further and further back for no justifiable reason. But they instead want to remake and resell these base books to us for us to get what exactly? A single new class mechanic? Sorry I haven't checked out the new books but they can't really be that different from the ones we already have can they? And if they are so drastically different then why are they being called updated versions instead of new books of their own? Sorry I didn't mean to rant again.
I may be overstepping here but I feel it is worth noting the point of the thread is how to add epic boons to your character sheet. It's fine to say it would be great if D&D Beyond did this already, this is Feedback forum after all, and some light speculation on when/if that may happen is okie dokies.... But lately it's mostly just arguing and complaining about D&D Beyond - which I do not think is constructive or on topic for this thread.
The way to add Epic Boons is by homebrewing a feat. Maybe D&D Beyond will implement a system for this or maybe they will release such things as Feats when the new books release. Or maybe neither will happen for xyz reason. It doesn't matter. Nobody knows and it's not a big deal either way - it's still better than pen and paper. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
