The one thing i hate about their "data analysis" is that it doesn't take into consideerationt he people who play high fantasy and give tons of magical items to their players and tons of "boons" to their players. if they were to make boons, then they would clearly see a rise in usability in their data. the only reason their data is incorrect in that respect, is the fact that boons aren'T there to begin with. thus they are running in circles in that department. the real question to the dev would then be... how can you count something that is not even there to begin with ?
their only analysis is based on the fact that boons are for level 20 people... that's not enough to warrant not doing the feature, thats not even enough to warrant the analysis that nobody even plays with them. they have no idea how peoples game runs, without that knowledge, nobody can even start analysing that data to see if boons are ok or not.
i'll take myself for exemple... i have 2 groups of 7 people... out of those 14 people, only about 6 uses beyond. and only about 5 actively use it. out of those characters, you'll see that only 2 are level 17+ and i have given them boons ever since level 5. same with the other low level groups. i use boons and charms every times ! now i'm definitley not the only one in this scenario. but they have no way to see this, they have no way to know if people are interested in a feature they don't even have on their site. actually the right way to approach this analysis would be to check in the notes sections and search for the word boons. or literally search for the actual boon names. now they would get a lot more hits on who actually uses them. this is something i dont think they are doing at all. it would take them way too long to start reading every nook and crannies. but to solve this equation, they'd have no choice but to do just that.
"Its hard to solve an equation when you are missing half of it !" - Tony stark and he's quite right. i understand the educated guess, people been wanting VTT for quite some times and dice was leading us there. but saying boons/charms and the likes aren't wanted because there is next to no people having level 20 characters ? that's bullshit of an explanation right there. basically, me think they just don't want to take a chance at creating something that won't be used. and i can understand that, but at least tell us the truth about it.
I'm actually strongly inclined to agree with you. Not only lvl20+ characters use boons. Sure only 20+ characters are meant to get epic boons but 1)not every dm is gonna be following that rule and 2) epic boons aren't the only type of boon. Additionally if you broaden your scope and think about what options a boons system would open up (Supernatural gifts, dark gifts AND boons of all types) you can see just how off their analysis was. There is definitely a large demand for some system that allows these to be implemented.
I've heard this roadmap talked about a lot however every time staff has linked to it the link appears to be broken. Does this roadmap still exist anywhere?
Apparently the roadmap still exists, somewhere…. Apparently what had happened was* that either something had changed with Trello’s services, or with DDB’s requirements, or that the stuff that already wasn’t quite working out had grown from annoying to actually inconvenient, or something, I dunno. Whatever the reason, DDB decided it just “wasn’t a good fit” (which is corpo speak version of “it’s not you, it’s me”) and they were looking into potential alternatives. But that we should all rest assured that the list still exists and isn’t going anywhere until all the to-do’s were tu-dun. Aaannd… as far as I know that was the last anyone has heard on the subject.
If I was a betting man (and I am) I would put my chips on the thing that wasn’t a good fit was the fact that it was shared publicly. People kept asking them about the stuff either not moving at all, or suddenly moving, or stuff getting marked with a flag of some sort, or an short acronym that people would start speculating about…. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but they generally seem to prefer it when the mushrooms don’t ask too many questions. It makes it harder to pretend they didn’t notice. If there’s no publicly shared roadmap then people can’t bug them so much. Then they don’t have to come up with responses that appease people enough to stop asking without actually disclosing anything.
*(Ever notice how stories that start with the phrase “what had happened was” usually dont end with “and they all lived happily ever after” for some reason…?)

actually the answer is a bit more precise and smaller... they actually said why they removed the trello... there was 2 reasons for it...
1) nobody had time to update the trello and keep the public in the loop. the dev updates were a much better fit for that purpose. 2) everybody kept thinking the closer the trello was the sooner we'd get stuff and in the end people took the trello as a deadline and thus if things didn't get advanced people thought they were abandonned. in the end it ws much more confusing to the comunity then it should of been.
those were the reasons they told us about. so... 1) dev update was better then trello. 2) too confusing for the community and i agree on both points... people literally tookthe trello as a deadline, like things would go forward and suddently people expected the thing to come out in the next 2 hours. trello was just a to-do list and how advanced things were... it was nowhere near a deadline nor telling you when things were coming out.

No. The roadmap is unfortunately defunct.
the roadmap still exists... acompany without a roadmap cannot go forward in anything. its just that you dont see it for now. but that is changing again because of the general feature system. the general feature system is the new roadmap. but it wont show you what they dont have worked on yet, they will be instead showing you only short term stuff they want your opinion on. basically, they are focusing the roadmap in, instead of letting it be shown in its entirety which led to many confusion.

Gonna throw my 2 cent in as well...trying to add Boon of the Blade to my character, but I have no clue how to make it work with my base attacks!
Boon of the blade: Adds an extra damage die, and if your die are d6, they are now d10.
I dont think this would be possible even if homebrew boons were implemented. First of all, *What* exactly are you trying to increase? just weapons? Spells too? So a dagger and a greatsword and a spear would all do 1d10 damage, regardless of what the character picks up? tbh even changing the damage dice of a single weapon isnt really possible, let alone character-wide. The closest that we have that does this would be like the monk's martial arts. Where it scales based off monk level and automatically changes specific monk weapons.
But since class features are not accessible to us, I dont think its possible.
Honestly you can just customize a note on each weapon to be aware of this. Also, a little confused, the term 'add an extra damage die' usually means a shortsword doing 1d6 now deals 2d6... not *change* the die itself to a d10
Hello Stormknight I was wondering if this has an update at all or is still to far out in the future to say? This was the comment thread that was linked from google for dndbeyond when it comes to epic boons so I figure it's a good place to ask as this is where anyone else will be linked if they're just casually googling it.
So first up, we never give out dates or timelines, because things can (and will) change, due to external factors.
However, I can say that we have completed the preparation work for this and fully documented all of the blessings, boons, charms, dark gifts etc so that this feature can be built next year. I am hoping sooner, rather than later, but that's as much as I can say, other than I am really excited to get this done.
lets go so when you say next year im asuming you mean one year from now or do you mean at the start of the year
She literally just said she cannot give out any kind of ETAs, and she cannot be any more specific than they are going to build the system next year. I would not hold my breath and expect them to finish building it next year either.

It's a rogue epic boon for sneak attack damage. I found a workaround for it, but just wanted to see if there was an integrated option.
Never heard of it. Is it homebrew? What was your workaround?

Awesome, so glad to see this is finally making its way as I use these pretty heavily in some of my campaigns.
Also, odd, I thought I quoted them, apparently not.
The second linked thread in my signature details how to implement Epic Boons in the interim while DDB works on it, for those who may be curious.
