Really liking the new map tool, and per the release email I understand things will be added over time.
The only thing I wish was available at launch was NPC tokens and being able to change the name on tokens. For the time being, I've been adding NPC character sheets to my campaign to have tokens available for them.
I'm sure we'll see that added in the future though, or custom blank tokens we can name and upload images for.
For NPCs, you need to make them homebrew monsters.
In the screenshot, Toby was added as a monster. Buzzsaw, Frenzy, and Ravage are added as companions. Each of these is a homebrew monster I made (customized owl, hawk, cat, and imp).
I am having issues keeping the connection up though. It would be nice if the state of the map was stored like the log of the dice rolls. Then I wouldn't need to keep my browser window open for my players to see the map.
That's a good idea, I have these random extra character sheets i marked as private in my campaign. Homebrew "monsters" would work a lot better. Thank you
Renaming tokens would be nice. When multiple creatures of same type, let’s assume six orcs. It’s hard to keep track of what orc is what on the map compared to combat tracker.
The Map Browser doesn't load the campaign maps. It's weird because there three campaigns advertised on https://www.dndbeyond.com/games The only maps preloaded in the map browser are the Basic Maps. Are they going to add the campaign maps later or is this a bug?

All the Adventures with maps listed in the relevant changelog article are adventures that need to be purchased. Have you purchased them on DDB? I can see them all when I use the Maps feature.
Can someone walk me through how I can make characters in my campaign private so that the DM myself can see them but none of my players can and then on this map currently there's no NPC option which I like the easiness and intuitiveness of this map making tool on D&D beyond versus rule 20 which is a lot of options and like hard to control this one's a lot easier. I just wish there was an NPC or upload your own token image added

DDB has a tendency to assume that NPCs are built as monsters. So if your NPCs are built as monsters (as all "official" NPCs are), you would or could have a token for them easily.
In terms of hiding NPCs built as characters, the best you can do is make them private and then add them to the campaign. (use the "copy invite link" option on the campaign page and paste that link into the url bar in your browser). The players would still be able to see name, class, and race, though.

All three adventures are free. I can see them as sources in DND Beyond. I can open up each adventure and read it on DND Beyond. None of the maps for these adventures show up in the Map Browser.

Of the three pre-made campaign options (Lost Mine of Phandelver, Frozen Sick, and Prisoner 13) only one of them is for a campaign that has Maps support (Prisoner 13, which is part of Keys from the Golden Vault). The other two will be backfilled over time to add support in Maps.
I'm also confused. On the main maps page it literally says:
"Start playing in Minutes
PREMADE CAMPAIGNS"
Then it lists Lost Mine of Phandelver, Frozen Sick and Prisoner 13 - when I click 'Select Phandelvier' it says 'something went wrong' and none of them show up in my maps list despite me unlocking them. Why would maps say start playing in minutes and list 3 premade campaigns that don't come with maps on the maps launch page?
I can certainly go into my campaign and manually add the digital maps that came with the campaign and then add the NPCs and do the fog of war, but I assumed that was why they had the giant buttons on the maps home page. What am I missing?

When responding to your original question, I did not find a list of adventures on the Maps page; I did not realize you meant the "premade" adventures. Thus, I referred to the list I found on the changelog page, as I explained above. That list is:
With the exception of the Prisoner 13 chapter in Keys from the Golden Vault (which I had forgotten about), all of these adventures are ones which must be purchased. With the exception of Prisoner 13, the other adventures that have "premade campaigns" are significantly older, and they haven't gotten around to adding those maps yet, as Davyd indicated.
Yeah - I understand now. It's just misleading to have premade adventures listed with 3 choices, where 2 don't actually have pre-made maps. At least I was confused.... :shrugs:

I can understand that. I've been a bit confused about the entire "premade adventures" thing, as there is not a lot of "meat" to them: a pretty picture, a link to the adventure, and some relatively generic text in the notes. All of which can be done "by hand" in pretty short order when creating a new campaign. I'm hoping that they are planning to do more with them eventually, otherwise i don't really see the point.
So I noticed that the Maps has been updated to include Curse of Strahd (which is fortuitous to me, as my group is about to head into the Amber Temple this weekend).
However, I noticed that the Amber Temple maps have a grid size of 1 square = 10 feet, rather than the typical tactical grid size of 5 foot squares. The tokens are properly scaled to that size (ie, you can fit 4 medium sized characters in a square), but unlike a custom map, the scale can't be adjusted. I would prefer to have 5 foot squares in play, so I would like to be able to either 1) change the scale of the built-in maps (I don't really care if the Amber Temple is smaller than advertised), or 2) overlay a 5 foot grid on top of the map to make it easier to manage.
I can only get Curse of Strand to show up, despite choosing both Mad Mage and Dragon Lance. Not sure how to resolve that...I've purchased all three on DDB.

Currently only maps from the following adventures are supported, and in order to use them you must own the book (shared content doesn't apply):
If you're trying to use a map from an adventure not listed there, you'll have to upload it yourself
