So.. at first I balked at the change and even wrote a mini rant... I was wrong... these sheets are better. Well done guys. My players like them better as well.
Then, it comes to a point to understand what is the sharing. The sharing is not meant for play. Sharing is for view only. If it was meant for play, it would have been a lot of trouble, account-wise, because it means that everyone with the link would be able to modify something on your account.
If you want to create characters for your players, and help them during the campaign, that is covered by the campaign management.
You keep saying "sharing is for view only". We clearly have a different definition, because when I view a character, I expect to be able to see everything about it. When I say "play", I mean the ability to re-create or use this character somewhere, maybe on DDB, but maybe just for PnP, FG, Roll20, or anywhere else really.
I get that I can't manage their spells with a shared view, however, it's an implementation detail that the only way I can see a character's spells is via the manage spells option.
Here's an example:
One of my players loves DDB and uses for everything. They want to use DDB to manage their character, so they send me a link to their character so I can see what they've done. I go to look at their character and I see only a handful of their spells.
The workaround here is for them to export the character as a PDF and send that along. Fine, it works. It's clunky and won't update with their character, but ok. Eventually, I as the DM will either get an account here to create a campaign so they can add their character in it, or I'll ask them to use a different character management tool that shows all of their stuff as I'm tired of getting updated PDFs all of the time.
Well if that’s the case your player should be in your campaign and then you would have full access to their character as the DM.
I don’t see any reason that sharing a character should allow anywhere near the same level of access.
The fundamental issue is that I can't share a playable version of my character someone else. Yes, you should 100% allow us to see the contents what spells a character knows, not just the ones they happen to have prepared for that day.
The usability issue of having to go to "manage spells" in the first place is annoying just to pick your spells for the day too. Why can I equip and attune equipment without the sidebar, but I have to go into the sidebar to pick spells? If spells were listed like equipment, this would have addressed both of these concerns. So yes, please look into adding this.
The issue with this is that you, or I, only have the experiences of ourselves and those we game with to base this on - what if Curse has data that 95% of players don't bother changing their prepared spells other than when levelling up? It suddenly becomes way less beneficial to list all of them in the way you described for 19 out of 20 people.
Giving feedback that you would like a certain feature and why you would like it is awesome, the team love that information, but please remember that you're talking about your own experiences and not those of everyone that uses D&D Beyond.
The request to be able to share a character with someone, such that they have all of the information necessary to play the character is understood.
Does the data show why people don't do it though? The fundamental concern with data-driven approaches is you need to understand the why behind the numbers too; that isn't collected in automated fashions. I never change my prepared ones because when I create a character here, it's just to do a quick outline of it as I have many of the books here, then I put it into another tool (e.g. dicecloud or Fantasy Grounds) and rarely touch it here again. If a lot of people do the same, that skews the numbers pretty badly.
I am talking about my experiences, my experiences of those that I play with, and the experiences of those that I've seen playing the game. Maybe I'm just in the vast minority though.
They've already said they can tell the difference between characters in play and characters being viewed based on the usage data.
While I realize that this could be done with creating homebrew spells, it'd be nice if the in-sheet spell customization allowed me to override damage types. For example, one of my players is playing a light/sun themed warlock, and I'm allowing him to do things like replace the eldritch blast damage with radiant, and Armor of Agathys with fire. Not a huge deal, but I like the customization options, so it'd be cool to have more.
Can't you make copies of these spells in homebrew and change the damage type?
Not sure if I mentioned this before, but having skills in two columns instead of one makes it easier for mobile users to see the whole list without scrolling...
Sheet's looking great, I like the direction its going in! There are a few things that I'm wondering about that I thought was going to be included. I may just be missing something, however, here's the short list anyway.
I like how conditions are added, but there's still nothing telling you what they mean on the sheet. If this could be a tooltip for each condition, that would be enough! Also, there's no way to track multiple Exhaustion conditions. It would be nice to be able to track Exhaustion 1 - 6.
Off-hand weapons. Is there a way to have the sheet calculate your off-hand weapon? Perhaps the ability to make weapon sets such as sword & shield, sword & dagger, etc.
Animal companions and shapeshift forms are the last. Are these trackable yet? This one is coming from a player, I haven't delved too deeply into it myself.

Go to Combat, click on the weapon you want to use in your off-hand so it comes up in the sidebar, hit the little down arrow next to "customize," check "dual wield."
Weapon sets would be neat but not something that exists right now and I'm not sure whether it's something they'd incorporate in the future or not, maybe if enough people request it!

Ok, you don't seem to understand my example at all, especially since the DM in the example doesn't use DDB and doesn't have a campaign to add the player too. Anyhow, let's make it more explicit with another example:
Matt is the DM for Critical Role, a wildly popular D&D streaming game that uses D&D Beyond. People love to see the character info, but if Liam wants to share Caleb, because he is a spell caster with a spell book, we can't actually see what his spells are. However, for other classes, this limitation isn't really there.
Why do people want this? Because they love seeing information about their favorite characters. Because they want to play those characters in their own games.
There are many use cases for this, and really, I have no idea why this is even a contentious thing. Hopefully it's addressed in a future update.
I love the revamp! However there is something I'm a bit bugged by.
When you select a spell that a wizard KNOWS, not the spells prepared, but KNOWN, the sheet makes it limitless, even though your limit is specifically mentioned in the PHB.
I'm not sure why it's not a feature, but the math is easy.
You can calculate it like this:
Wizard Spells Known = 6 +[ (Level - 1) x 2]
It's not game-breaking, and I'm not enraged by it, but it does seem like a small (however important) feature for the class that was probably missed in the massive project that is the character sheet.

Wizards can find new spells in the game world on spell scrolls or in spellbooks and add them to their spells known. Wizards do not have a limit on spells known.
So we played with the new sheet for the first time tonight! It was fun, but one big glaring issue became obvious: AC needs to be seen at all times, or at LEAST be present in the Actions and Spells panel as well.
3 of my players are spellcasters, and use lots of non attack spells during combat. So, they are on the actions panel and spells panel far more often than anywhere else. My 4th is a monk, who also spends more time on the actions panels than anywhere else, using their ki features. I could see and hear my players becoming frustrated about the difficulty of getting to the AC when they were attacked (or to saves, honestly) because it would take them out of what they were planning, or become more cumbersome.
These players all use tablets, so they were used to seeing the desktop version while playing. While they all loved the character sheet when they viewed them on home computers, they definitely became frustrated tonight using the mobile version. It made it more difficult as a DM trying to keep the energy and positivity up so we could all have a fun night. :( I think they may try to paper print out next game, which sucks for me since I like being able to see their sheets in game (with an autorefresher).
I'll be a player with the tablet sheet for the first time tomorrow, so I'll see if my familiarity with the new sheet will make it easier on me or if I have the same frustrations.

Am not doubting what you're saying but am a little surprised. I only play once a month but I know my AC like the back of my hand.

I'll just say while I'm sitting here getting the sand out of my hair that the tablet experience you mention won't be the tablet experience much longer.
AC will be omnipresent on mobile and 1024 and above (iPad landscape) will get (more or less) desktop views. Those are two changes are clear for us and will come soon - just trying to parse some more of the feedback to see what else to include in that iteration.

FWIW I really like the iPad portrait mode, where spells, actions etc are in one long list on each page. Makes it very easy to skim through while you're planning your next move. I think it's superior to mobile view which separates into tabs for spells levels etc. Desktop is the worst in this regard as it has both tabs AND the necessity to scroll as the panels are so small vertically. I can totally see why you did that though, but maybe there's an option for people to have longer panels.
Melee Spell Attacks are apparently defaulting to Dex for some reason and not your caster statistic. Confirmed via Shocking Grasp cantrip. Ranged Spell Attacks are now correct.

The player can do that themselves by making homebrew versions - it's the best way of making such changes.
