This is a compilation of the most discussed feedback and requested improvements from the mega thread.
While I think it's great that we have one large mega thread for the community to voice their opinions. Those opinions get really scattered and often repeated, because nobody wants to take the time to read through pages of feedback. I have been watching the thread since its beginning, so I figured I would make a compiled list of some of the most discussed feedback (excluding simple bugs) for easy reading purposes.
Top bar: Tablet
Things that, at a minimum, should be visible at all times:
Hit Points
Inspiration
It's probably fine to hide armor class and saving throws in the combat view. You have this in mobile view. It would be nice to have it there for tablet view as well.
These are fine right where they're at on desktop view.
Combat: Desktop View & Tablet View
The things that should all be visible in this view are:
Armor Class
Saving Throws
Initiative
This should be customizable.
Resistances/Immunities
Conditions
Speed
Actions
knowing what type of actions you can take are only important in combat when you're in turns
In desktop view I think it would be a good idea to combine the two right panels into one to decrease the amount of scrolling users need to do on each of the various screens.
It would be worth combining the Combat & Actions views into one. The idea here is that character sheet items that are used together the most should be grouped together.
Ability to apply a bonus to hit and bonus to damage on a custom attack.
Conditions: All Form Factors
Need to be able to set what the exhaustion level is.
Need to be able to see what the description for each condition is.
Actions: All Form Factors
When you click the attack action, information for shoving and grappling should be shown
Equipment & Spells: Desktop
The ability to customize these things should be more visible. A light grey cog on a white background at the bottom right of the panel is nearly invisible.
People want a better at a glance view of information. It's hard to get that when a lot of that information is in a small scrolling container. For that reason, the top and bottom panel should be merged with the tabs in the bottom panel being moved to the top one. The mockup. This means:
Less scrolling
More room for things like viewing all your spell slots together at the top or metamagic options.
When searching for a spell, it would be nice to see the options from all the levels.
Spells:
Need to be able to see a list of their ritual spells. Particularly Wizards since they don't need to have them prepared.
You can probably include this as an option by the spell levels.
Some people want a preference to not see the upcasted versions of spells, but to simply be given a prompt as to what level they wish to cast it at when they cast it.
Warlocks need a way to handle the Book of Ancient Secrets.
An All tab for spells.
The ability to track concentration.
Lists:
The ability to rearrange items in the lists. Particularly equipment and attacks.
The ability to use the column headers to sort the lists.
Features & Traits: All Form Factors
A limited use section has been asked for a lot, which compiles all the limited use abilities (from classes, race, items, etc.) into one place.
Sidebar: Desktop
An option to have the sidebar persist in the fixed position when the page is reloaded.
Fix the sidebar to the top of the screen when scrolling so that you don't have to scroll back to the top of the page.
Landscape Orientation Layout for Tablets:
This mostly applies to tablets with a screen width of greater than 1000px in landscape mode, but less than 1200px.
PDF:
Having an image portrait in the appearance section.
Having it follow the preference for having the ability scores in the top box instead of the modifiers.
Automation: Probably further down the road, more of a long term thing
Here are some examples I've seen:
Mage Armor (Add upon cast, open Armor Class sidebar to remove)
Relentless Endurance / Stone's Endurance prompt when reduced to zero hit points. When used, it will check the toggle and not be usable again until the next long rest.
The ability to "buy" and "sell" equipment and have it automatically adjust your currency.
Sharing:
Allow entire spellbook contents to be shared, not just prepared spells (mostly important for Wizards)
Cleric:
Disciple of Life bonus should be shown on healing spells.
Don't forget to include Goodberry.
Warlock:
Tome cantrips should show up in the spells list.
Handling of the Book of Ancient Secrets
Wizard:
Evocation wizard bonus to damage would be nice to see.
A way to track Arcane Ward separately from Max/Temp HP.
First off, I really appreciate the feedback given in this thread. It's great to get confirmation that the new format is working so well for many of you, and it's great to be able to get feedback on challenges or frustrations from the broader community. Thanks!
I'll share a few things that are on our minds after sifting through everything. Keep in mind these are thoughts and intent at this point - not final decisions or executions.
On desktop, we're going to see about displaying a single box to the right (instead of two) to give the content a little more room to breathe.
We're going to see about getting AC and Initiative to display more prominently (and not just in the Combat section).
On that note, the Combat section is probably going away (in favor of a combined Actions section since AC and Initiative won't be there anyway).
With more room in the bigger content area, we'll display a full spell/ equipment list, with filters to shrink that list as needed.
We will try to resize the desktop view to be able to fit it into the smaller iPad Pro 10.5 in landscape.
On mobile, we're going to look into a way to bring back swiping between sections. The floating nav button will remain for quick jumping between the sections if desired.
Those are a few of the things I'm comfortable to talk about this early - we'll definitely keep an eye on all the feedback to make improvements.
Thanks again for providing feedback. We're thrilled with the overall reception for the digital sheet and are happy to have solid feedback to use to improve. We have sorted through all of it and some prominent themes have emerged to help us identify some tweaks. I wanted to give an update on some of the upcoming changes you will start to see over the next several days:
Omnipresent Information. We clearly see that Initiative, Armor Class, Defenses, and Conditions should be always displayed/ more easily-accessible.
Layout Consolidation. With Initiative, AC, Defenses, and Conditions pulled from Combat, there's no need for that section. We also hear that it would improve the experience to have more room to see the information in the "detail" sections, so we will consolidate the two boxes on the right into one to give it more room to breathe.
"All" Display in Detail Areas. Within the bigger detail box, we will default to displaying all elements in that section. So, for Spells, you'll see all of your spells by level listed, with the ability to click filters to reduce the list as desired (including Ritual and Concentration filters). In Actions, you'll see all your possible actions listed by action type, including your attacks. Then you can filter down by action type, whether it is an attack, or limited use.
Desktop View on Tablet Landscape. This one was a no-brainer after seeing the feedback. For anything above a 1024 resolution, we will display the "desktop" view that requires no page navigation.
We are also working on some smaller changes such as adjusting font sizes in the PDF export, moving section headers to the top of the section, quality of life improvements like condition descriptions, etc.
And I also want to mention that we are still going to explore a way to reintroduce swiping to navigate on mobile. A change like that will take a little bit longer than the "next several days," but it's on the short list.
Thanks again for the feedback - I'm feeling really good with the direction for these tweaks and the updates will be implemented soon!
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
How I'm posting based on text formatting: Mod Hat On - Mod Hat Off
Condition descriptions are now available in the character sheet side bar (and there'll be another update soon for managing the levels of exhaustion).
Update to the login system. We have finally been able to make an update to the login mechanism that provides two main benefits. One, being able to select a different Twitch account to log in with, and two, removing the requirement for having third-party cookies enabled.
Fixes:
Fixed a bug in copying homebrew spells with additional levels not properly copying modifier information
Fixed views for subclasses and races to account for soft-deleted features and racial traits.
Fix issue with viewing spell details in the character sheet for ritual spells
