I would like to revive this discussion. I am a player with several purchased books, happily sharing with my friends in a campaign. However, I would like to purchase an adventure to work on as a future DM, a campaign likely to include several of my current companions.
As of now, I cannot turn off sharing with my campaign, as I am not the DM. But I bought the books! Why can't I purchase a book just for me, and "leave it at home" when we all come to the virtual table?
This is a great addition to DDB! But what would be even better would be to also block that content in the character builder as well. For example, If I want to create a basic campaign that only allows players to use the PHB content only, there should be a way to make the character "illegal" for play and give the player a notice that they need to fix some content before the character is playable.
Still this! This has been "coming soon" for years now - any chance it's actually happening soon? I'd be super happy if this was in the pipeline already!

It's sad, but I've honestly given up on this (content management on the character builder) "ever" happening. It's been requested for years and seems to have fallen off the development roadmap.

So frustrating.
Having now looked at the Trello and Zendesk stuff, I actually have some hope that it'll get piggybacked into the character creator overhaul and/or the Adventure League validator...
And if you haven't voted already, I think this is the relevant one with the highest updoots.
I have that one (and several others) already upvoted. The AL validation (even if I don't play AL) is what I have been clinging my hope to, but we'll see.
I love DDB, but this issue, which has persisted for years, is extremely disappointing.
I need the ability to limit the homebrew content that is shared but still share some.
I have some items that I made for my own characters that were approved by my DM, but I don't want my players to have. And then there are homebrew spells that are only for one campaign and the DM has said that they are not allowed in a different campaign than the one that they were created for.
The races are the only content that says homebrewed and has an icon for it. If we could have the icon for everything that would fix the problem.
Everything else it doesn't say when you are just looking at the character sheet and it is confusing and frustrating my players and the DM.
Also not to double down on a post but I would love to be able to limit adventures, like being able to share the magic items from the adventure but no the whole book.
If you remove the homebrew you do not want to share from your “collection” of hen they will not be viewable by players in campaigns. Any character that already has them equipped will keep them. Also, if you select to not share the adventure then your players will still be able to access the magic items and stuff, but will not be able to read the books.

Yes and no.
If you are a DM, you can select which compendium contents are not shared with the players. However all content is shared with the DM whatever the settings are; and the players would still get access to the NPCs in the monster listing. That means, if you are a player in a campaign with sharing on, you can not:
choose what is shared with the other players within the campaign
choose what is shared with the DM
Which means if you own an adventure that you want to keep away from the other players (e.g. because you plan to run it for them in a separate / subsequent campaign), you're at the DM's mercy; and if you want to hide it from the DM (for similar reasons), then you just can't.
I hope that will change.

Well, if you cannot trust the people you play with to not be metagaming wangrods then mayhaps the issue is not which toggles you can or cannot hit. Ne?

If you use the search bar, you might find spoilers even if you're not specifically looking for them, but if you're so perfect that you never accidentally hit a spoiler, then mayhaps it's moot to try to explain to you. Ne?

I’m not perfect by any means. But just because I accidentally click on a spoiler doesn’t mean I have to read it. And even if I do read a spoiler, I can seperate what I know from what my character knows and not metagme.
In addition, when filtering searches everyone can intentionally choose to only search sources that are appropriate, and specifically exclude sources they have access to through sharing but don’t want to see.
If the tiniest scosche of care is applied to ones actions, accidents are largely avoidable.
Besides, if they also purchased the adventure there is nothing preventing them from reading their own copy. That has been a possibility since the first printed modules came out in the ‘70s before I was even born.
While I understand the concern of the post, steps can already be taken currently to minimize the issue, I was just trying to point those possibilities out. And besides, if you cannot trust your DM to not read an adventure by simply saying “please don’t read that adventure befor I can run it” then you cannot trust them as a DM.

Cool. Good for you who always ever play with the same people who you can trust your life with, and never ever ever joined a campaign or a short game with people you didn't know before. That does not change the fact that if I join a campaign, I want a better control over what I share with the group and what I don't. And it's not about "trust", it's about feeling confident control.

Okay. But I have to ask, if one never plans to play with those random people again, why would one give a hoot if they get spoilers? But if someone needs the warm, fuzzy, security-blanket feeling of the illusion of absolute control, then probably not the best idea to play with strangers from the internet. (We can be weird people.)
I saw this issue mentioned previously but did not see a response addressing the issue.
I have shared content enabled and share a limited number of source books with my players (who are all relatively new and very curious). I recently noticed that when I purchased a new adventure module (Icewind Dale), that it automatically shared that content to every one of the campaigns where content sharing was enabled. Since this is the module I'm about to run with my players, I am worried they may have stumbled upon it and I wouldn't have known had I not gone back to edit the content sharing.
Why does content default to being shared? Is there a way to change this? I would rather consciously go in and share the newest content where needed instead of having to go in and manually disable it on each and every campaign that I am running.
I'd love to see a "DM's Homebrew Collection Only" toggle or something like that.
I've got players in my campaigns that have their own wacky homebrew spell collection, which then muddies spell lists for other players if Content Sharing is enabled.
I'd disable Homebrew for each of the players in their options, but then they wouldn't be able to access the items I create for them.

I didn't know the adventure stuff, but for the homebrew stuff, it is spells for a cleric it will still be on their list to pick from?
Mary C. Wahlstrom
As long as that homebrewed spell is in your collection then they can pick it, if you remove it from your collection, then they cannot.
