I would like the ability to add temporary buffs to my character sheet like bless, mage armor, Paladin auras, etc. For many of them, I want to be able to add them to a list and then check a box to enable/disable them similar to how I can equip/unequip items in my inventory with a checkbox. This would, ideally, integrate with the Dice feature so when I have bless on, my attack rolls will get a +1d4 damage, and when I am near a Paladin I get +n to my saves, and when I have Mage Armor on, my AC calculation is 13+DEX.
I think implementation wise this would function basically identical to the Equipment tab of the character sheet, but just be called Buffs. D&DBeyond would, ideally, have a collection of buffs (e.g., from spells, from auras, etc.) that I can easily find and add, perhaps via a UX similar to spell preparation for Clerics on the character sheet, where I can search and click a box for "this is something that I want to see in a short list of buffs". Also, I would like to be able to create Homebrew buffs that I can share with my campaign members (e.g., a custom boon). For the shortlisted buffs, it would be exactly like the equipment view where I can toggle things on and off and they apply their effect to my sheet as appropriate.
I've been trying and failing to add temporary buffs to my homebrew class.
+1 AC for a minute, +10 walking speed for an hour. Only after adding all those details, did I see that they aren't triggered by using the action. They're permanently in place.
Is there a way to add all of those in bulk? Seeing as how there is a pretty long delay between adding something to your homebrew collection and it showing up in your character sheet's list, it would be nice to be able to pre-add all of them in a couple clicks before game rather than trying to add them ad-hoc during session.
I can't speak for the delay. Other posts I have seen say it's an updating server cache issue and you should give up to 15 minutes for changes to show up. But once you add anything you your collection, it should be there for good. After that all you have to do is equip or unequip an item for whatever changes to be added or removed.
I created some new ones for Paladin's Aura of Protection, but they were rejected from being made public because "Not an Item". I'm curious how your set managed to get and stay approved @Mairondil. I don't want to ask the moderators out of fear that they will take yours down too, but is there some "trick" I can use to share the ones I created publicly like you have?
I had some rejected recently too. Granted I'm quoting the spell text, so 'm gonna chalk it up to that. I may change the text to be more summaries of the effects of the spell and see if that cuts the mustard.
The rejection reason I got was very explicit indicating that buffs as items are not allowed to be public, which is unfortunate given there is no Buffs option. 😢
Rejected for:
Item - Not a Magic Item - Please do not submit magical items that are not actually magical items. If your items are meant to replicate Blessings / Curses / Feats / Class features, you are welcome to use these privately, but they will not be allowed as published magical items.

Hmm. That kinda sucks. Well, it was still fun figuring out how to create them. I don't have many hobbies these days so coding ddb homebrew has been a satisfactory time filler lately.
Fingers crossed they bring out a built in buff system sometime. I could always figure out how to code a nifty Chrome extension that does the same thing. I'm always up for a challenge and have the time.
Yeah, I get that. I was just hoping to share my work so every campaign across all D&D Beyond users didn't have to manually do the same tedious task over again.
You my friend are amazing. I've been living like a peasant and having to add my buff in manually every time I've used them. Now to live like a king. I shall up vote them so they get seen more in the homebrew collection. Hopefully you have one for Mage Armor and Bladesinging.
Mage Armor? Yes. Bladesinging? No. I might make it for myself because I've got not much else to do. But as you can see from this thread these item buffs have been rejected lately.
I've mostly been concentrating on spell effects and if you search, you'll see a couple of people have made class effects (like Rage).
Hmm. All of my Item buff submissions have been rejected. I'm assuming there must be a homebrew cleanup going on because there's a few hb magic items at the beginning of the list missing as well (name's that started with ?? and AAA). I'm wondering if the other existing Add Effect items will be rejected as well or if I'm being singled out for some reason.
My best guess is that they will leave yours grandfathered in because a lot of people are relying on them, and then if/when they add buffs to the character sheet they'll remove them.

I think, having played now with the homebrew creation thang, that it would be useful to have an active/disable option on some class features and spells. so you can activate a button for mage armour, bang the AC calc changes over, Bless active, and you get the +1d4 to relivant checks. the coding is pretty much in the content creation stuff, you just need a way to make it change the active stuff on the sheet. it could be a drop down akin to the conditions (handy for recieving buffs from other sources), but I suspect a toggle setting is probably easier to do at least to start with. it could be done with turning on and off homebrew magic items, but if it could be right there next to the action type and description it would be so much easier to use. it would also help a lot of the dyscalculate players too, as it would further remove the maths element making it easier to know what to roll, or just rolling it in with the checks.

I agree with this 100%.

Is there a way to make it so these show up on my character sheet when I search for items in the "Manage Equipment" fly-out?I figured it out, you just have to add them to your collection and then wait an arbitrary amount of time, and then refresh your character sheet page.
Temporary effects are on the roadmap.

You don’t need to publish them to use them.

No, they already took theirs down.

The older ones have been taken down but if any sheets that are using them still have them. I'll be testing to see if they stay in the collection
