There are always ways to address these things like for example having "child" accounts attached to a parental account. Amazon's implementation is a decent template where it limits content and requires purchases to be approved by the parent account and it also is regional based taking into account multiple countries and varying restrictions.
Most important thing though is to post this in it's own thread as a feature request. New work gets prioritized partially based on demand so get it out there for others to see and comment on!
Also, I need for kids as young as 7 to be able to have accounts. Separate issue, but a biggie.
This is incredibly unlikely due to the terms of service of D&D Beyond prohibiting use by under 13s (and this also being a legal requirement for some regions of the world)
Exactly the problem. How can we fix this absurdity? Would it require that some content be marked as 'mature' and have filtering?
I would much rather my 11 year old wanna-be dungeon master be using DDB to create homebrew monsters and run campaigns than watching other kids playing video games on youtube.
And I would hugely prefer that the campaigns I run at a school, as official classes, be able to use the online character sheets than paper.
It would literally take an act of congress, as the reason there is a restriction of 13 years of age is due to a congressional law called COPPA. In summary it says "COPPA imposes certain requirements on operators of websites or online services directed to children under 13 years of age, and on operators of other websites or online services that have actual knowledge that they are collecting personal information online from a child under 13 years of age." So that's why this and every other website requires you to be 13.
Also, I would love to see sidekicks expanded a bit, if nothing else, add the ability to give them their own items!

Diligence be your watchword. Whatever you do, do well, and may success attend your efforts.
I just want to be able to make them on the character builder. I've been wanting them since the rules were released so I can run some sidekick only shenanigans.

The workaround I have is creating them as a homebrew "monster" and attaching them to the character sheet of the player playing them. Everything should be rollable if you put the codes in, and it's not too hard to start with the base monster (per the Sidekick rules) and edit from there. I've been doing that for Reya Mantlemorn in my Descent into Avernus game (starting her as a Soldier (CR 1/2), though she's a bit weaker than her book-default Veteran statblock until level 7/8).

The dice rolling code works in the encounter builder and combat tracker but it don't work from the character sheet extras tab. Players want to make the rolls for their sidekicks, so they're stuck with custom rolls.
Another thing I found today about sidekicks is if you add your creature to the EXTRAS tab as a Sidekick, it will not display the Saving Throws or Skills with the correct calculations. You have to add the creature as Misc. Below are two examples of the same homebrew monster added as a Sidekick and as Misc.
As of right now, there is no dedicated support for building Sidekicks. I've seen recommendations on the forums ranging from keeping track of it all separately offline to creating a 'Character' built like the sidekick you'd like and adding it to the campaign. Hopefully, DND Beyond will add a Sidekick Builder feature sometime soon.
Edit: They have confirmed that they will be adding Sidekick functionality to the site.
They haven’t yet. It should be like a class, you can make in as you were creating a character
I've also been waiting for this since the book came out, it would be an awesome tool for both me as a DM, and for having guests play with my core group.
Yeah, I have a one shot dungeon crawl I've been adapting and evolving for the past 18 years. I like to shake things up from time to time and would love to have the content for sidekicks. I wanna do some sidekick only runs.

The reason why, in my experimenting, is that for whatever reason sidekicks ignore the "base value" in skills and use the default ability scores (additional bonus works fine). In saving throw proficencies, sidekicks also ignore the proficency bonus there.

As has been explained earlier in the thread, the sidekicks tab in Extras is only for the sidekicks from Dragons of Icespire Peak. Tasha’s sidekicks use different rules, and must be added as “Misc.” to function (mostly) properly.

Are you able to see sidekicks to add? Am I missing something?
You won't see anything under sidekicks if the character you're looking at is not in a campaign that has a source shared to it that includes sidekicks. There are no "official" sidekicks yet, just ones in certain adventures (namely, the ones in the "Essentials" bundle here, such as Dragons of Icespire Peak.)
So, I made a custom "monster" and added the sidekick tag which allowed me to add it under the "extras" section. When you click on it in the character sheet it pops up on the side and is clickable, but the "bonus actions" are not visible. It shows actions and reactions but not bonus actions. Any idea why or how to fix?
Having everything that is possible in a book that you buy on D&D Beyond should be possible without every single gaming group having to add it to D&D Beyond as custom content.
Using the character manager and other tools are the ENTIRE REASON that I use D&D Beyond.
Also, on the topic of Fighters being weak so they can be used by beginners is a very poor design decision. New players are only new for a short while. It is temporary. Nerfing classes to make them "beginner friendly" as a permanent effect on that class really sucks. Surely you will not be a beginner after making few levels. Just make weaker characters for beginners, don't ruin other classes to do it.
