.. I can bring you to a world where this already happened :)
I've built an entire VTT inside a chrome extensions for DnDBeyond.com. After you install it you and your players will be able to just go to a DnDBeyond Campaign and start a VTT session together.
It's all integrated directly into DnDBeyond. You can use the stats from the monsters you own and from your homebrews..
You can access maps from your adventures and you can quickly access your character sheet and roll dices from there.
I've also just built an integrated combat tracker, and it also support "Fog of War" for a map so the DM can reveal pieces by drawing square on the map as the players move on it.
Of course, the code is still "alpha" .. some pieces of the interface are still ugly..... so there will be bugs... and that's why I'm looking for testers :)
(If you want to wait for a more stable version I think I'll get there in some weeks.)
Feel free to ask any question, and if you do try it please send me your feedback (here or on discord).
#### ONE YEAR LATER EDIT ##
It's been a year since the first release of AboveVTT. This extension is now installed by almost 20k user (chrome and firefox). If you love DndBeyond there's a good chance you'll also love AboveVTT :)
The extension is opensource and will stay free forever.. you don't event need to make an account (other than the DDB account you already have :) )
This looks really cool. I love how easy it seems to add maps and switch between them. I will have to give it a try. Do you know if this will conflict with having Beyond20 extension installed at the same time? Also, any chance of Firefox extension in the future?

You should disable beyond20 while you use this. (You don't need to uninstall it.. just disable it from the extension manager.. after that you can re-enable it).
I'll look into enabling it on Firefox in two weeks.. after I finish other features and fix some bugs :)
This is awesome! I did find one bug, though: The fog of war is the same across all maps (Ex: I put the fog of war on the Tavern map, and then if I add a new scene, this scene also has fog of war).
We will try Above in actual play tomorrow with my table. Despite being in alpha it got everything I need from a VTT, is easy to use and is "only" a natural extension of Beyond. Amazing!
We had the first official playtest yesterday with the developer (Cyrantir, is that you?) and some of us early Patreon supporters. We tested the Jitsi integration, but used Zoom for the session because the DM wanted to integrate sound effects which isn't possible through Jitsi (yet?)
Found some things to add to the feature list such as PC viewable combat tracker and sending spells and trait text to the game log. Had one player have some issue with ddb that popped up but we do not believe it was related to AboveVTT.
There's other features that are currently being developed and there's a new version every couple of days as the developer continues to add new features and squish bugs. A good group of devout supporters on Discord to help people out and a developer open to adding what features he can as he makes this thing all by himself!!!
I'm not a complete luddite, but I am also not the most tech-savvy cat in the world. How do you "host" a session, invite players to join and give them access to the session?
This looked much simpler to use than Foundry/VTT by the way.
The DM and all players install the AboveVTT extension, available for Chrome or Firefox.
On your main campaign page are some new links:and for PCs:
The DM opens with the ABOVEVTT JOIN AS DM button. Players would click on their PC's button JOIN ABOVEVTT.
DM settings are stored locally on the your PC. Think cookie. DELETE ALL ABOVEVTT DATA deletes that data on your PC.
Other people clicking on Join as DM? It does nothing, that person can have their own settings for running things. Why? Because it doesn't interact with the data you have stored.
For audio/video it uses Jitsi imbedded into the VTT. But all a/v conferencing is through Jitsi. You can turn this off and use your own A/V conferencing (Zoom, Discord, etc)
If a player is in your campaign, they are already invited, they just need to use the extension.
I will say that setting up "scenes" is a bit challenging for a DM to do the first few times. The DM tools are a little more complicated than players see, but that's to be expected. New features are being added nearly every day. It's been fun watching it the last couple of months.
Okay, that doesn't sound so complicated. How well does it run if you use the embedded Jitsi for you A/V?
It works. We just tested that it was functional then moved to Zoom at the DM's request. Currently can't share PC audio through the Jitsi version used. Considering the amount of work the dev is putting into this by himself, I don't blame him for some missing polish.

Me and my table are old grogs, and I find Roll20, Foundry etc way to complicated, especially the self hosted variants, I simply refuse to mess with router ports and whatnot.
We play online with Beyond/Discord/Owlbear Rodeo atm, which works great. But we tried AboveVTT this Friday, and it's even better and very easy to use. We will keep the Owlbear solution a bit longer though while more stuff gets added to Above, but will definitely move over at a later stage.
We will also keep Discord, as it's very handy both for a/v and for sharing handouts and stuff.

Hey saw this on reddit. I'll give it a try starting next week. Hopefully this is like Avrae and DDB decides to hire you to finish this for them!

Watched your video and had a play around with this today. Absolutely incredible work. So quick and easy to import and set up.
Can't wait to see your future development - I am supporting your Patreon, keep up the good work.

This is looking really good. Continues to be updated with new features and improvements. Really puts the DDB devs to shame honestly.

You can build scenes with those handouts and the newest beta shares spell/item/feature info with the VTT game log.

Is there any plan to have the ability to import maps without a link at some point? I ask because I create my own maps for DnD on Dungeonfog.
call me Anna or Kerns, (she/her), usually a DM, lgbtq+ friendly
Upload them to Google drive, set them to share get the sharing link
Hadn't thought of doing that. Thanks for the help.
