Dooo deee dooo I mean I would boycott the Wizard of the Coast bluh bluh bluh but I never could bring myself to pay for digital content. It is a issue I have buying nothing for money. I mean if I bought a paper book and I then could use that purchase to play on line here I might have done it but you can't you literally have to pay for the right to view the content once you pay.
I know I have the same issue with Magic The Gathering Arena. I can't even bring myself to buy bitcoin. Anyway I stopped buying Dungeons and Dragons stuff in 1990? I know as I have two 2nd edition books. Never spent a pennie on the D&DBeyond so I guess me boycotting it would not have much of an effect. Come to think about it; it has been some 4 years sense I last posted on here as you can see from below it did not go so well the last time bluh bluh bluh.
I guess not much do is going to matter much I see the creators of contents side their trying to make a living off of a game which is awesome if not so smart in my opinion. You all knew before jumping into this game how Wizards is having 5 editions and now digital. RPGames are here to stay just go off brand stop using the brand name and just make content. These people can close the doors and there will be another site up and running in no time.
anyways more power to you I say not another pennie for them tell they support the players!

And here I thought I was on my best behavior. BUT NO I got scolded and threatened with corner time. I guess we are not allowed to express our feelings or opinions on anything here. All hugs and kisses every body's special every one gets a ribbon that says 'Your a winner" Not here more then a week and I got naughty points twice. How many points do I get?
I cancelled in the beginning, and I've had a subscription for multiple years. I will not renew until third party creators tell me they are still welcome as a part of our community, and can make their living adding to and enhancing the content that makes DND great. We are a community. Together, we have the power. And the money. I hope you're listening, Hasbro. Your IP is not where your bread and butter is. We are your bread and butter.

~ once the viscera hit the oscillating cooler, all wagers are null ~
No new OGL. I don't trust corporations to report on a survey they conduct. I don't want a game designed expressly for online gaming. I game FTF. This new apology simply does NOT address WOTC's pricing policies, etc. This new apology sounds good until you realize how little they are saying things in a way so that they give themselves lots of flexibility to do the things we fear and lead us to think they won't.
WotC could get me back. State unequivocally that OGL 1.0a is FOREVER. Then if they want to do One D&D (D&Done)/ 6E under a new license, that's cool, still not convincing me. But then if 6e is just the most awesome thing ever with the most awesome VTT ever, maybe, just maybe, they'll get me back.
The age of OGL is over. The Time of the ORC has come!
The moment that WotC declares OGL 1.0a "de-authorized", "revoked" or any such nonsense is the moment I release as much content as possible under OGL 1.0a and say, "Sue me WotC". OGL1.0a cannot be revoked. If thousands of us do it, the countersuit will be a class action suit.
Did anyone else find it funny that "A Working Conversation About the Open Game License (OGL)" doesn't allow replies or comments? And therefore is neither a conversation, nor particularly "working"?
Who loves the fact that the newest statement is still referring to 1.1 as a Draft when it was in fact not a Draft. We are still being lied to, just more sincerely.
Not even sincerely. They're acting like they're giving us concessions in the bullet points. I'd love WotC's biggest idiot in a suit to say they want to restrict those kinds of usages in a court of law. The judge would have a field day ending their career.
One "missing" word destroys 22 years of OGL 1.0a and we know what will happen in 5 years or 5 months or 5 days. If all perpetual, irrevocable and so on words are no longer sufficient a new one is invented, there are courts. I already have one: dishonest
Who says here that " No contract is ever final until both parties agree on it. Period. In business terms, they are draft contracts until negotiations are done and they actually get signed. Offers not accepted have no force of law."
But if the offer destroys your business in such a short period of time, because you fell for a company that after 22 years finds out that they don't like the OGL 1.0a anymore and you don't have millions to go to court to do your 750.001 Kickstarter, that's dishonest.
In court you may eventually get justice, or you get a great 15% offer, instead of 25% levy before, it does not make the world better and is: dishonest.
It is very simple. Do you have people from Microsoft and Amazon and EA sitting in your company at the top, the company will behave, how? Maybe the head of the Dnd division doesn't even play Dnd , but rather Sims from EA, how much DnD is left? After all, he now has an account and he opens the open discussion round with his first and possibly last post but only there is no answer option. Thats a really nice open discussion. ;)
The answers are buried deep in their own forum, which many have already left. A survey is to come, which will not be public and will not be monitored by an independent body, the questions will be predetermined as always and specific answers or questions should not appear but it will stop some negative critic in the media. ;)
What remains now with the whole procedure from the leak until today? Trust or dishonesty?
All the nice and anointed words in the apology of 18.1.2023 from Kyle Brinks are again just words, most of which is just PR language and we know what that means at a big firma. We only look at the OGL 1.0a and that was valid for 22 years and perpetual but not forever and not irrevocable. Nothing but smoke of history because of one missing word. But it's not about the one word, it's about control. OneDnD is coming and yes you may also think of Tolkien. ;)
Who loves the fact that the newest statement is still referring to 1.1 as a Draft when it was in fact not a Draft. We are still being lied to, just more sincerely.
It was not openly published anywhere. Negotiations with individual entities does not equal the equivalent of 1.0, which applies pretty much globally (likely completely globally, but not completely certain, there).
Your mortgage was not openly published anywhere, does that mean it is just a draft document?
For me: WotC gave me a reason to look elsewhere for my content. I liked what I saw BETTER. I'm not coming back.
WotC torched every bit of the positive impression I had of them.
As an analogy. I had a Chevy as a first car. It was a POS. When it came time to replace, I never bothered looking at Chevy. It was 20 years before I stepped foot on a Chevy lot again. Even then, the bad taste puts them at a disadvantage every time I purchase. WotC handed me a poop sandwich.
The good: 5e offers/offered accessabilty and a streamlined gaming experience. I give it that. That was an improvement compared to 3rd edition or PF. Oh, also Dndbeyond is quite comfortable too.
The bad: Caster-martials disparity, imbalances between classes in general, rule inconsistencies etc... the more you advance in the tiers of play the more things fall apart. I could live with these things.
The Ugly: Where 5e really fell short for me was material for campaign settings. The few publication felt shallow, simplistic and very safe. Many interesting settings like Dark Sun or Planescape have been left in the vague past. And here 3rd party content really shined and filled this gap imho.
For me 5e is just a nice ruleset for very casual, lightweight play. That's it. Games are evolving; new systems constantly take inspirations from older ones, so this ease of gameplay has/will spread outside of DnD. If Hasbro/WOTC wants to shoot themselves in the foot by pushing 3rd party publishers away and monetize the game even more, I'm more than willing to explore other systems. The brand and some copyrighted monsters can't balance out the OGL 2.0 and its implications for the future of DnD and its players.
For those not familiar with corporate language, a draft refers to a document in consideration for approval. Say there are 4 OGL 1.1 drafts of varying languages. I want to push draft #3. I put this draft in paperwork and send it off to x y and z companies and tell them to sign. They can, obviously, not sign. So now I know draft #3 sucks, and I can send draft 2 instead. Oh, they signed draft 2? Let me sign draft 2 into being OGL 1.1 and make it publicly known everywhere, except that I raised the royalties by 5% across the board, so that the pre-signers get a sweet deal.
A real 'rough' draft never leaves a building, ever, and it has NDAs over it. A draft document is just a potential final product until signed. Based on what we know, someone signed.

1.2 looks better. Shocked they dropped the royalties.
Better; yes, great? Not so much.
Unfortunately; now that WOTC has made their aims clear, and their continued lying and gaslighting is on full display.... we have to now watch them with the vigil and paranoia a Sith Lord whose apprentice keeps leaving life insurance brochures around the temple.

My renewal is in march. Nothing new in my dndbeyond except for digital dice stuff.
No programming whatsoever on the build an encounter. and there is a fire side chat that is trying to monetize my future me.

Who doesn't love a little top notch irony like an open conversation where one side of the conversation is gagged? lol
Woah woah woah, that sounds like inappropriate content that we need to be protected from. Need to get that new OGL through so they can censor that.

Free League's two new games Ruins of Symbaroum and Dragonbane look like promising alternatives.

An angry customer tells EVERYONE.

I Cancelled my Master Tier Subscription January 12th 2023 because of "OGL" 1.1 - Resubscribed 28th of Jan, now the SRD is in CC-BY-4.0
