the two lances are so different that the older one shouldnt have been taken away from buyers
2014 lance reach, special 1d12
2024 lance Reach, Topple, Heavy, Two-Handed 1d10
yea theres a massive change in the weapon and this isnt really a debate on if its a buff or nerf tho seems like a buff. They should bring back the old lance bc its such a massive change

I really feel like this is overstating it a bit. The Heavy property was added (though the way that works in the 2024 rules is a bit different) and the average damage decreased by 1. I'm not sure I'd call that "massive".
It is a disservice to those wanting to keep using 5.0 rules though for the weapon to not function properly in DDB, similar to the trident.
I certainly agree they should've kept both versions available. I just think it's a relatively minor issue. I'd much rather they spend their time fixing all the warlock invocations that don't work properly, or implementing 2024-style custom backgrounds, etc.

That's pretty much the case with any weapon though. Different properties and different damage dice. The distinctions between each mundane weapon isn't that big, but they're still classified as different things.

Theorycrafters loved it for dual-wielding paladins on a flying Pegasus so they had reach, and smites. But I don’t know if it ever got past the theory stage.

thats my thoughts too is that its a big enough change that the old one shouldnt be erased
The old lance magic items i dont think got updated so things are out of wack with the original item not being there anymore
They did get updated. You can see the 2014 stats in the item descriptions, and even when they are flagged legacy, it is still only the new stats in the database for them. Only the new stats make it to the character sheets.
my main problem is you cant homebrew the old lance back into the game bc you cant make custom weapons (like changing die size and stuff)
Greetings UnkKnellnapper,
Your statement is partially incorrectly stated.
As far as Homebrewing a Magical Weapon, yes, it would be difficult to rebuild a Lance without using another weapon's properties as you can't change the damage dice, etc.
As far as just creating a new Weapon that will display and work correctly in DDB, this is easily done with a Custom Action:
Open your Character that you would like to wiled a Lance within on the Web-based D&D Beyond site.
In the Actions section, on the right, click on the Manage Custom red text to open the Manage Custom Actions fly-out pane.
In the Add New Actions drop-down, select General.
In the Custom Actions fly out, click on the down-arrow next to Edit to expand the editing options, and then enter the following:
Range: Melee
Stat: STR (Assuming you want to use Strength as your stat for this weapon)
Dice Count: 1
Dice Type: 12
Fixed Value: blank
Damage Type: Piercing
Save Type: blank
Fixed Save DC: blank
Range: 10
AoE Type: blank
AoE Size: blank
Activation Type: Action
Activation Time: 1
Affected by Martial Arts: blank
Proficient: Checked
Display as Attack: Checked
Name: Lance
Snippet: Used to display the Snippet, but is not currently working, so leave blank
Description: Will be a description of the item on the fly-out pane when selected on your sheet
Click out of the Manage Custom fly-out and you should see the weapon and attack listed on your character's Actions that can be taken.
Hope this helps you get the Lance you want to use and is what you are looking for.
Cheers!
