I'm here for a peace of advice and i hope you guys will be able to help me.
We started a campaign with some friends of mine and they had no healer when I joined them. Currently the party is made of a rogue (assassin type), a monk and a bard. We have enough dps for 1v1 but only a few backup with this. I have no issue with playing a support role in the party but to prevent myself to get bored I tried something by multiclassing my character to make it a bit more versatile.
The thing is... we reached lv 6 and I am not very happy with my character. I have to different profiles which came out from the first one. So here are the two profiles I generated and I would like to get some different points of view.
Profile 1 : Human (+1 to each ability) Ranger 2 / 4 Cleric 11-16-14-10-16-10 Fighting style Defense / Life Domain Feats : War Caster Equipment : intermediate armor, shield, rapier, bow
Final goal : Ranger 5 / Cleric 15 Next feats to be chosen : Resilient Cons, +1 const +1 wis, +2 wis
Profile 2 : Human (Variant : +1 Str + 1 Wis) Ranger 2 / 4 Cleric 15-13-13-10-16-8 Fighting style Duelist / Life Domain Feats : Resilient Con - War Caster Equipment : Heavy armor, shield, WarHammer
Final goal : Ranger 5 / Cleric 15 Next feats to be chosen : +1 con +1 str / +2 wis / +2 wis OR +1 cons +1 str / Observant / +1 dex +1 wis
Consider, horizon walker 11, and either life cleric or forge cleric 9. A well rounded spell list with a handful of long duration concentration spells to boost damage, or damage and to hit with elemental weapon.
I actually put together a class concept in another thread about gish characters. With heavy armor, a shield blessing of the forge and soul of the forge you can have a respectable 20+ ac without magic armor.

You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."
Also for spell selection dont forget the awesomeness of goodberry combined with Life Domain abilities, each one heals 4hp (1 for the goodberry itself and 3 for the Disciple of LIfe ability), so that is a total of 40hp of healing you can deal out wih a level 1 spell, not quite so good for comabt but for resting or on the go healing it is pretty good.
Just focus on the ranger aspect first then cleric after you get the ranger up to lvl 5 or whatever you’re going for. I’m under the belief, through my personal experiences at least, that a dedicated “boring” healer isn’t a requirement for a group, and also that a cleric can be offensive and fun on their own. Just have cure wounds and prayer of healing prepared and you’re good then just go offensive. I’d assume the bard would be using healing word if there was no other means of healing before you entered and if they aren’t maybe your character can have a conversation round the campfire with the bard to see if they can pick up some of the healing responsibilities, just a little healing word now and again if someone falls unconscious isn’t too much to ask for the betterment of the party.

Disciple of life doesn’t work on Goodberry. The spell doesn’t heal anything, it creates berries. Those berries heal creatures, but it is not “a healing spell.”
Disciple of Life
Also starting at 1st level, your healing spells are more effective. Whenever you use a spell of 1st level or higher to restore hit points to a creature, the creature regains additional hit points equal to 2 + the spell’s level.
The spell doesn’t “restore hit points” it creates berries.

Considering Jimmy Neutron’s Jeremy Crawford’s habit of directly contradicting himself in Sage Advice, I (and many on DDB) generally ignore anything he says.
Yeah, playing a normal human is pretty pointless, I'd go for Profile 2. Also, since you get +1 on Con if you take the resilient feat, it's better to add to your Dex (for saves, skills and initiative) instead of ending up with odd number. I'd stay with the defence fighting style though since Duelist is pretty wasted on a Cleric.

From a magic mechanics point of view I can see the rationale behind them stacking together.
Apologies for a slight detour in the thread....
Spell says: Eating a berry reslores 1 hit point, and lhe berry provides enough nourishmenl to suslain a creature for one day.
So each berry does store a small amount of healing magic as it heals/restores 1hp, as a Life domain cleric is capable of channeling healing magic more efficently their goodberries store 4hp worth of magic. I could also see a caveat applied to doing it this way that the extra healing only happens if the goodberry is administered by the life cleric.

Except that it's not the Cleric that does the healing, it's the Goodberry. If you use a spell to summon a creature, it is not the summoner that does the damage, it is the creature.

So as not to derail the orginial thread, how about we agree to disagree?

I have nothing wrong with that discussion. Instinctively I would have said than berries are juste magic berries whsose main effect is to feed as a whole ration. Actually, I would have never thought that I could use it with Life domain ability.
So I guess I will go for profile 2. There is only one thing I would like to underline about the final DEX.
If I choose +1 con +1 str / +2 wis / +2 wis I end up with 16 / 13 / 14 / 10 / 20 / 8, which is a huge caster and good dungeon crawler If I choose +1 cons +1 str / Observant / +1 dex +1 wis I end up with 16 / 14 / 14 / 10 / 18 / 8 which is a very good caster and very good dungeon crawler... The thing is which one is the more useful for the party? Or, I would say, which one would you like to join your party if you had choice?
Just as an aside and apologies for returning to the topic of goodberry + life domain cleric but I have stumbled on something.
First off, I would still allow the combo. However, for any DM's out there that read this and think they wouldn't then I have an explaination for you to give to your players about why it won't work.
It does require a minor history lesson. I was working on somehting and flicking through the 3.5e players handbook and noticed that many of the spells in 3.5e had a listing for their school of magic and also a key word associated with it. For instance, Cure Wounds is listed as school Conjuration (Healing). Goodberry makes an appearance in 3.5e and is listed as only School Transmutation. So historically it was not considered a Healing spell. In 5e it is still in the Transmutation school so you can say it was not considered a healing spell in 3.5e so you are not considering it a healing spell in 5e.

With regard to potential character choices I think I would limit myself to thinking no more than 2 levels ahead as you don't know where the camapign will go/end. I do like Observant as a feat but also think aout your language choice with it as that will dictate how useful the read lips ability is. If you have no favoured enemey/natural explorer worked out the build I'd be tempted with something like an Urban Bounty Hunter, taking humanoids as favoured enemy and see if DM will let you have Urban for natural explorer (urban being any settlement of village size or larger).

I mean, I might allow it to create more berries personally but not a bonus to every berry.

Final goal : Ranger 5 / Cleric 15
Next feats to be chosen : Resilient Cons, +1 const +1 wis, +2 wis
Profile 2 :
Human (Variant : +1 Str + 1 Wis)
Ranger 2 / 4 Cleric 15-13-13-10-16-8
Fighting style Duelist / Life Domain
Feats : Resilient Con - War Caster
Equipment : Heavy armor, shield, WarHammer
Final goal : Ranger 5 / Cleric 15
Next feats to be chosen : +1 con +1 str / +2 wis / +2 wis OR +1 cons +1 str / Observant / +1 dex +1 wis
I must precise that we are only using PHB.
Thanks for your time
Of the two, I like Profile 2 better. Do you have to do the ranger 2 / 3 cleric split, or can you change that also?

I have to keep the 2/4* split (I made a mistake by telling you guys 2/3).
I am going to think about Horizon Wlaker 11 / 9 cleric. As soon as it is ready and fully thought I tell you.
