This thread is to list your favorite monsters, DMs and Players can answer. The requirements for a monster in this thread are the following:
It must be an official D&D 5e monster.
It must be a general monster, not a specific one (example, you can choose a Pit Fiend, but cannot choose Bel).
It has to be from either the Monster Manual, Volo's Guide to Monsters, Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes, or any of the setting books (GGtR, MOoT, E:RftLW, etc).
You can choose a creature category for any of the options instead of an individual monster stat block (i.e. Orcs, instead of specifically an Orc Eye of Gruumsh would be a valid option, while humanoids would not).
Now that the rules are cleared up, here's my list:
10. Warforged Colossus 9. Aboleth 8. Beholder 7. Giff 6. Oblex 5. Phase Spiders 4. True Dragons (Bronze) 3. NPC Wizards (Archmages, Necromancers, etc) 2. Liches 1. Mind Flayers (More specifically, the Gnome Ceremorph from ID: RotFM, but Mind Flayers in general).
What are yours?
Edit: I can't believe I forgot about dragons. Replacing the Sorrowsword with Dragons.
I'm unclear. Do you mean our favorites like, the ones that we think are just the coolest and most iconic? Or do you mean favorites like, the ones we most enjoy fighting? Or do you mean favorites like, the ones we most enjoy throwing at players? Because those are three very different lists.
Let's assume you mean "coolest and most iconic". So... (in no particular order)...
Gargoyle
Drow
Catoblepas
Beholder
Doppelganger
Bodak
Rust monster
Basilisk
Treant
Dragons. Duh. Any kind. Every kind. Dragons! DRAGONS!!!
Oh, and maybe an Honorable Mention for goblins. Those wacky little kooks!

Tayn of Darkwood. Lvl 10 human Life Cleric of Lathander. Retired.
Ikram Sahir ibn Malik al-Sayyid Ra'ad, Second Son of the House of Ra'ad, Defender of the Burning Sands. Lvl 9 Brass Dragonborn Sorcerer + Greater Fire Elemental Devil.
Viktor Gavriil. Lvl 20 White Dragonborn Grave Cleric, of Kurgan the God of Death.
They are. But IDRotFM is an Adventure, not a sourcebook. The rules of this exercise according to the OP require that eligible monsters be found in:
”It has to be from either the Monster Manual, Volo's Guide to Monsters, Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes, or any of the setting books (GGtR, MOoT, E:RftLW, etc).“
10. Sphinx 9. Elder Tempest 8. Gray Render 7. Bulette 6. Steel Predator 5. Displacer Beast 4. Lycanthropes (Were-wolves being my favorite of the group) 3. Couatl 2. Yuan-ti (Abominations and Anathemas especially) 1. Dragons (White dragons being my favorite of the group)

"Meddle not in the affairs of dragons, for thou art crunchy and taste good with ketchup."
1. Zombies (the "not quite dead yet, still standing" trait)
2. Illithid
3. Bone Devils
4. Furies Erinyes
5. Wolves (the pack tactic)
6. Gith
7. Blights
8. Myconids
9, Mummy Lord
10. Tie between Dracolich and Shadowdragon
Now I'm inspired to write an adventure that incorporates all of them somehow. Good prompt. I'm thinking the penultimate encounter will be the Mummy Lord and Dracolich ... and the final encounter will be wolves starving from the prior monsters' lair effects upon their hunting grounds, come to lick what they can off the bones of the party.

Most of my “favorites” have not been officially converted to 5e yet. And the ones that have, like the Magen, are not in sourcebooks.
So I guess, out of the eligible options, I have to go with:
